Allegheny Commons Park is located in the North Side neighborhood. This park was founded in 1867 and is Pittsburgh's oldest park. The park contains a small lake, fountains, art, monuments, and memorials. Recreational facilities include playgrounds, fields and courts for sports, walking paths, and a dog park. In addition, businesses such as the National Aviary and Gus & Yiayia's operate in this park. I have walked through or driven past this park on literally hundreds of occasions. The park has lots of open spaces in which to relax and many tall, mature trees that provide shade on hot days. I think that the lake, bridge, and fountain look very pretty. I rate the National Aviary and Gus & Yiayia's as 5 stars each. I deducted one star from my review because this park is located in an area that has high crime. I am careful to not visit this park by myself or at night.

Off leash dog exercise area in Allegheny Commons Park is a small green space behind the aviary. Blink and you might miss it. There are signs but no fences identifying the area. My dog loved running around this beautiful old park without being attached to me... I was a little nervous not being attached to him... we stayed and played until he wanted to explore other areas of the park.

This irregularly shaped urban green spaces houses some statues, a bird zoo, and elementary school, among other sights. It was not the most scenic place ever and didn't have a ton of facilities, but there were some interesting sights. Notably, there is free parking around the area, and walking through the park is not terribly far to some of the sporting venues and other attractions.

An old park located on the North Side. It sits right across from the Mexican War Street area. The Aviary is also nearby. There is a large Civil War monument by the pond area. A nice place to walk during the day with plenty of large trees for shade.

Really nice park to hang out at on a spring day. If you go to CCAC it's right down the hill to the park. There is a pond but they drain it in the spring so I'll have to stop by again. The park also has a couple tennis courts and picnic tables. The park was neat and clean plus lots of traffic on the streets so I would think it would be safe. This is a really nice time of year with the leaves turning colors.

Absolutely incredible…read more I don't go to botanical gardens much so I don't really have qualifications to compare or rate any particular place but Phipps blew me away. I like plants. I have some. I thought seeing a bunch of plants might be fun but I wasn't expecting it to be such a wonderful experience! The place is quite large considering most of it is inside. It is organized for a few different environments and a little something for everyone depending on what your floral preferences might be. It took us about an hour and a half to go through the whole thing. Got a lot of pictures. Saw a lot of interesting and cool plants as well as beautiful flowers. Highly recommend this as a stop on any and every Pittsburgh trip.

Pgh Candle & Phipps partnered for an evening at Botany Hall…read more We selected our scented oils and were able to create our own soy candles. The vessel was a lovely shade of green and had some weight. Simple instructions for those of us who were not-crafty. While our candles were solidifying, we were able to go see the Spring show. Lovely evening. Definitely would do again.
