After my son's short evaluation, half of which was spent playing games, Carol Krakower told me his…read morevocabulary skills were low. I did not believe this and checked with his teacher, who is with him thirty hours a week, and she agreed with me- his vocabulary is fine and his speech is the issue. The teacher also asked how this woman could make an assessment about his vocabulary after spending such a short amount of time with him, which is a valid point especially because my son is usually very shy. My instincts told me to find another SLP, but I ignored them because my shy, four year old son seemed to like Mrs. Krakower. That was a bad decision on my part. After the evaluation, I was told by Mrs. Krakower that she would call me after she received the authorization from my insurance to treat my son. I waited a few weeks and never heard back from her. When I called her, she told me I should call the insurance company. I called and they told me that Mrs. Krakower's office had just called and he was approved, so we began treatment. On the first day of treatment I told Mrs. Krakower that we would be on vacation a few weeks from the date. I also told her receptionist, but it was obvious that neither woman wrote this down because they repeatedly spoke to me about appointments for that week. I brushed it off because Mrs. Krakower was also traveling during part of the week and I figured they were trying to be thorough. Fast forward to the Tuesday after we returned from vacation. My son was sick so I canceled his appointment that day. Around 5pm I received a call from the office. When I spoke to the receptionist she told me "your insurance isn't paying us enough" (yes, she actually said that). When I asked her why Cornerstone is in my network she said "we don't know how much we are reimbursed until we treat a patient". I am not in the medical field, but from what I've heard usually the provider is given a reimbursement rate when they sign the contract with the insurance company. Needless to say, I discontinued my son's treatment here. Yet, Carol Krakower is still listed as a participating provider on my insurance company's website which makes me wonder if this is a scam they use to get people to pay for treatment out of pocket. I could be wrong and this office may be wonderful and Carol Krakower may be a great SLP. However, my experiences left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I cannot in good conscience recommend this practice or this therapist.
