As an update to my 2023 appointment for new glasses: I recently had an eye exam at another facility…read moreand was given a new prescription that was supposed to be a minor tweak on my current glasses. I compared the new prescription to my latest prescription and it seemed more like a major change instead of a minor adjustment. Not being an expert, I went ahead and ordered the updated lenses from Rome Eye Care. When they came in and I put them on, the vision in my left eye was good but I could see better out of the right lens without the glasses. I figured I just had to wear them for a while to get used to them. After two weeks of constant wear, my vision was not any better out of the right eye. I returned to Rome Eye care and they read the lenses on their machine and confirmed they matched the prescription I had been given, which I figured they did. They agreed with me that the new prescription was a major change from the lenses I have been wearing since 2023. They said I should go back to the original clinic and have them recheck my eyes. The original office I went to could not give me a repeat exam until June. I let Rome Eye Care know that I wouldn't be back anytime soon so they weren't expecting a quick return. The very next day they called and said that Dr. Reeves said for me to come in and he would re-examine my eyes. A new exam was performed and it was found that the prescription I was given by the other optometrist was over corrected for the left eye and was even a bit stronger than I needed for the right eye. During his evaluation he was able to correct my prescription to give me 20/20 vision. I know this is kind of long, but the people at Rome Eye Care center are really great. Based on how quickly they accommodated the exam and the expert treatment I received, I will probably use them as my primary for eye care.

Unless you are willing to go to Bascolm-Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Dr. Jacobson is your best bet. He PERSONALLY took the time to understand my entire medical history (rather than having some tech-schooled, slow-writing medical assistant who understands about half of what you are telling her and writes down even less). Even more importantly, Dr. Jacobson demonstrated the ability to think about how existing medical conditions may affect my eyes. After having lots of experiences with MDs of all types, I can honestly say that Dr. Jacobson is definitely a rare and dying breed. Not only does he have an exceptional attention to detail, really good communication skills, outstanding capabilities and the most current knowledge of retinal disease, treatment and care -- he also seems to be a genuinely nice guy. The other MDs in the practice seem equally skilled...I don't have as much first hand experience with them except to say that I had an after-hours emergency and had to page the on-call MD. My call was returned in less than 2 minutes! Dr. Rivalese also offered to see me in the office on Saturday AM. Impressive that they are so responsive to non-life threatening emergencies. Most other MDs would tell their patients to "go to the ER"...but the ER can't do much for eye problems except charge you $2k and tell you to "follow up with your doctor on Monday". Sure, having eye/retina problems is terrible! But knowing that there is competent, professional care is reassuring. Give Georgia Retina and Dr. Jacobson in particular a try...I think they have several locations: Decatur, Riverdale, Perimeter, etc.

They use off site phone helpers who ask questions they already have in their files, they overprice…read moretheir frames by a good bit (as evidenced by how quickly they offered to come down on the posted price when I commented on it) and, the straw that broke the camel's back is they charge mandatory $55 for machine optic tests -and won't dilate instead. You are not allowed to refuse. Most places charge $30 for the same tests and offer dilation for free as an option. The staff seemed nice but forced to robotically say the same line to customers all day about the doctor insistence on these mandatory additional charges. I looked up the charges on my phone as soon as they told me about it and found out that dilation was usually an option and that the charge was on the highest end of typical, so walked out and found somewhere else nearby later that same day and am so glad I did. I'll review them separately. Again the place is fine the employees are nice and the eyeglass sales woman was very committed and dedicated and interested but whoever makes their policies is out to make the most money possible with the least work possible.

I called ahead to ask if they do eyeglass frame repair on frames I purchased from them in 2013. They said yes and gave me the address of their location (here) that is open Mondays. (Their East Cobb location is not open Mondays.) I showed up very soon after they opened. I recognized Dr. Patel even though it had been over ten years. I explained the two things wrong with my glasses. A member of her team at the front desk examined them and agreed they could be repaired easily. In fewer than 15 minutes, someone walked to the lobby with the repaired glasses. Amazing! In this day and age when so much comes extra, when businesses are squeezed to nickel and dime their customers to make ends meet, I genuinely expected to be charged for this repair. Blazingly fast service and no pressure to buy anything even though it had been over ten years since they made a penny off me? I'm going to make a point to come back when I get my vision prescription renewed in a week. I hope that if you're reading this review it means you're checking them out. Have confidence in visiting them and trusting them to do right by you. I'm no one special. Not a VIP. But even after so long, they happily repaired my eyeglasses restoring my ability to get work done with my vision "restored" so to speak.
