We had a delightful and delicious tour group dinner at this hotel. This Highlands hotel was a 3…read moreminute walk from the Morlich hotel where we stayed but they are both part of the Macdonald Aviemore Resort complex. It was an extra treat for our group to be paraded in that 3 minute walk to the dinner venue by a Scottish bag-piper. My guess is he was part of the hotel dinner package as opposed to a tour guide special. Dinner was held in a quite large dining room and it was apparent this resort was designed for big prime time crowds. For dinner, we had a set 4 course meal. Each person was also given a half-shot of The Famous Grouse blended Scotch whisky for a toast to the evening. I also had a nice Cairngorm IPA. The 4 courses were a haggis with mashed potatoes appetizer, a cullen skink soup (smoked fish chowder), a chicken breast with vegetables entree, and a cranachan for dessert. The food quality was in the a-ok range. I'll go with a 4.49 rating overall for the fun dinner outing here.

It is modern at the one hand, thoroughly traditional Scottish at the other hand. We had two lovely junior suites with breakfast included. Being able to stay at a scotch distillery, or in a building next to a distillery, is pretty unique…read more Craigellachie is a beautiful property on the exterior, generally feeling like a mansion in the Scottish countryside. People working here are kind and attentive. The highlight was them arranging a late night meal of sandwiches while I was at Macallan distillery. The scotch being ready and set in the room is nothing to snuff at either. Breakfast is excellent and once again, people working it are very nice. There is a decent dinner restaurant at the hotel that I did not find very impressive at all, mainly due to the quality of beef, which was not on par with that in other restaurants I've experience in Scotland. Is this a luxury property? Absolutely not. The age and level of maintenance shows throughout. Is it a great homey place to stay a couple nights? It sure is indeed. For those curious and coming from the US, I'd say this is can be considered a 4 star hotel that shows it age, but has a unique and personal touch to it. It's a separate and more complicated discussion if this property is worth the money, but I've enjoyed my stay here as a whole.

Slept great after a long drive. Rooms were clean. The bathrooms included a warm towel rack, large tub, functioning shower, working toilet, and combined hot & cold water sink. My previous hotels in Scotland seemed to have separate hot & cold spouts so you had to "mix" the water to get "warm" water. The hotel was decorated very nicely. It seems to have some history to it. There is a bar located in the lobby that is filled with bottles of whiskey. Looks like a great place to grab a drink. My only complaint is that the Internet signal was very spotty from the room. Perhaps we were just too far from the lobby.
