She was having challenges with purchasing via a Canadian cash order. The staff at Garcia's were able to work out the exchange issue with her. My cousin told me that I would get a text when the ordered book came in. I was perfectly happy to go by the store for the book when notified. However, Garcia's went above and beyond as only a small business who values its customers can do ..they HAND DELIVERED the book to my house!! I called to thank them for their outstanding service and wanted to encourage you all to shop at Garcia Street books!!

The owner is super friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about books. I could have spent hours browsing and chatting. I'll most definitely be back! The shop doesn't open straight onto the main road but is still right in the Santa Fe plaza. From Palace Ave you go through some iron gates and through an outdoor hallway. It can look like you're not supposed to be there, but you are, so don't be put off - this gem is well worth the few extra steps! If you appreciate books you'll love this place. Don't miss it!

My sister and I have been searching for a special copy of The Call of the Wild for my…read moredaughter-in-law. She read it as a child and said it was a favorite book and inspired her to become a veterinarian. Mr. Nicholas Potter, Bookseller of Santa Fe, advised our search (from California and New Mexico) and introduced us to the Limited Edition Classics, although he did not currently have a copy. When we found a copy through a different bookseller in Pennsylvania, we consulted with Mr. Potter on that purchase. It turns out he knows that bookseller (clear across the country) and he vouched for the validity of his descriptions and his business practices. Clearly he is dedicated to the profession.

It was darn near as good as I would have hoped. We had gone…read moreup to Santa Fe specifically to have a chance to get a book from George R.R. Martins book store. My gal didn't know it, but I was having trouble finding a hard cover of the first book of the "Game of Thrones" series. I figured if anyone had it, Beastly would. We arrived direct from driving up from Albuquerque. We found the place easily enough, and walked in to a wonderful smell of coffee. The fella at teh register also made all kinds of concoctions. We had to get a cup after that, and it was excellent coffee. It's a brightly lit spot which was great. Along with the coffee aroma it also had some pine like smells I imagine from the woodwork of the shelves. That or the side room they had a spot they were doing some construction on what looked like an expansion. And of course they had plenty of hardcovers, so with a bit of subterfuge my daughter got the book so we could give it to my wife. It worked out great. Next time back we will have to check out his bar next door, as it was closed at the hour we were in town.

Books are organized by section, and there's a children's and YA section if patrons bring their children with them. Most of the books are used and a decent price. You can't go looking for something specific, though that's half the fun to wander and see what you'll find. There is this Santa Fe location, then one located in Taos. There were many boxes being sent up to the Taos location which were blocking small alcoves in the store. If I had a suggestion, it would be for that work to be done in the back so customers can access books; I was not able to enter the alcove I wanted to because of shipping boxes. Overall, an eclectic local bookstore that is fun to browse, if cluttered.
