I arrived and spoke with the owner briefly, then left my books for her to check out while I browsed the store. I must say I was amazed at how well the store was laid out. Plenty of room to browse the different areas and sections. All areas clearly marked and arranged by themes. Most comic stores tend to be crammed into tight spaces and claustrophobic but this store was a pleasure to go through Nice selection of back issues and current issues, figurines, posters, graphic novels, games, and much more. And very reasonable prices too. Highly recommend if you're in the Asheville area, check it out! Oh, the very knowledgeable owner and I came to a fair deal for a dozen of my books!

So many unique comics, cards, gift items and old record albums are nicely placed throughout the store. Prices vary but appear to be reasonable. Even a refrigerator with cold water and drinks starting at 99 cents was darn cheap. A must place to visit with kids who are into the above and graphic novels. Nostalgic for adults and a good place to eyeball the current value of your comic collection.

Comics, cards, figurines, Pops, Star Wars collectibles, Star Trek collectibles, Hot Wheels, etc. I would not have believed the huge stocks from the outside. Plus some oversized Star Wars items: R2D2, a Droid, and a diorama of Dogabah. These guys are fans first and retailers second. Had a nice conversation about comics and left them with information on checking out my collection and possible deals. They were friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help. Check them out! Just leave enough time to browse around and maybe find that one item you have been looking for.

Grade: A Atmosphere- Located in a strip mall, What you see with MEC is what you get. The store is well lit, reasonably clean with wide rows that are well stocked. The only major drawback is a strong musty smell that permeates throughout. This could probably be remedied with a good dehumidifier and carpet cleaning. Grade: C- Knowledge/Customer Service- while not as knowledgeable as other stores in the area, MEC is one of the more professional and friendly. Each staff member has been genuinely courteous, helpful and willing to go way out of their way to get what I need. One instance, the gentleman called a competitor to help find the book I wanted. MEC is also the best comic store in terms of price. It is the only comic store in the tri state area that offered a 10% discount for purchasing 5 or more books. Grade: A- Quality/Selection- MEC has a moderate to large selection of mainstream and adult comics. But if you are looking for Indy titles, this is your place. This section alone is larger than all new titles combined at their regional competitors. A small selection of games, toys and cards are also available. If you are looking for back issues however, I would try elsewhere. they have very little past 1990 and most is not in collector condition. On a side note, I would like to see a better display method for Marvel and DC comics near the front. Most comics in that space, on the other side of the counter are damaged along the spines due to over packing the comics into the media cases. Grade: B- Overall: This store has one of the largest selections of indy titles in the tri state area. Their customer service is second to none. However, if you need back issues, I would look elsewhere. Overall Grade: B-

Be warned, they barely have anything priced. That being said, I found a few I wanted. Took them to the counter. I asked for the prices on the books I had on the counter. He proceeds to "look them up" on a monitor. Proceeds to give me a very high price. I counter offer $10 less. They wouldn't take it. I turned it down. Then the young man took the book and said, that belongs on the wall. So, I worked for them in finding that wall book. I dug thru a dozen long boxes, found a nice book, made them a reasonable counter offer and then they put it on the wall to try to make $10 more. If I wanted to pay Ebay prices, I would buy from there. I did the work they were supposed to be doing instead of sitting around talking and joking. I won't be back.
