This is a small, but decent farmers market. Last year was the first year for it and I thought they…read moredid well, but could have done better. There are so many farmers in the area, that I find it hard to believe that this is as small as it is. I put the price at 2 $'s because the prices range from really cheap to super expensive. The super expensive being the organic produce. For example, last year I bought organic Kale at $4 a bunch. You can get that at Wal-Mart or Giant Eagle for WAY LESS. All the good are great, it just depends on what you're looking for. As far as I know, everything is cash only, but you would have to check with specific vendors. Parking is a bitch, but it's also downtown Ravenna.

Just wanted to give a shout out to the Busy B Bakery stand, which sells at both the summer and…read morewinter versions of this market. It was my good fortune to discover Busy B today. You can't miss pastry chef and owner Marissa Mathews, as she wears fun bee antennae to go along with her "B" theme. She had a nice table full of reasonably priced home-produced goodies, including salted caramel brownies, and a variety of individually wrapped cookies. The chocolate chip and oatmeal coconut chocolates were superior--soft, fresh, and delicious. Her business also includes special order cakes and treats, and we took her card to call upon for future special occasion needs. It seems that she can also make things to suit different diets (offering vegan options, but not sure about gluten free). It is such a pleasure to support small businesses like these, especially when the quality of the product is so superior to the generic mass produced kind of baked goods that many grocery stores usually carry.

The location under a bypass, and mural was creative and nice to see. I guess if your looking for fruits and a better selection, with not as many vendors, I was told there a few other spots for farmers markets to check out.

They had a promotion that you can get 2 weeks for the price of 1 week and try this out. So I decided to try. Last week I got my first box. I chose the small vegetarian box. It's $29 bucks a week. So I got it for $19 bucks a week. My next box is this week. I got kale, zucchini, cucumbers, dill, blueberries, potatoes, kohlrabi, beets, peas, and an onion. Then we bought chocolate chips cookies and also a bag of english muffins. I made potato salad with the red potatoes and kohlrabi, and dill. We had breakfast sandwiches with the muffins they are big and really good! And I've made the various other veggies throughout the week. I am looking forward to this weeks box. I pick up at the Hudson stop. The lady who helped us was very nice. And they set up in a large space so you can see them and it's a good large window of time to get your stuff. Overall good experience and the veggies were fresh and good. I like that you're getting this from the source farmer. I like supporting a local farmer. Depending on your time and your means this could be a good alternative to shopping at corporate stores. Or maybe if you hate shopping for veggies. They have carnivore boxes and also vegan boxes. I chose the vegetarian because we get meat from a butcher. So this could be your shopping for the week in some cases. Check out the website and see if this is right for you.

It has grown over the years to offer far more than just produce: dairy, bread products, canned and fermented, baked goods, meats, prepared foods...and on and on. The customer service is personal and prompt. They go out of their way to be accommodating. The value is outstanding. No way I could purchase the same amount or quality at a local grocery chain. The owners also clearly care about their farming partners as much as they care about their customers; the weekly newsletter that accompanies the weekly offering often highlights a farmer and their product and shares insights on what it takes to produce honest, local food. I have looked for CSAs in MI and WA state for my adult kids and there is nothing available as extensive as Fresh Fork. It is a true gem in NEO.

I stead of…read moreworking with a couple farms, they work with many in order to bring fresh vegetables to "urban deserts". I think the advantage to this CSA is you can pick your weeks and only need to order a week in advance. This is all online ordering and the system is sometimes goofy. I couldn't figure out my username and it turned out I was missing a capital letter. But, this was solved as the administrator was able to figure out what I did :-) Otherwise, I pick mine up in Euclid, but there are many locations all over the Cleveland metro area. It helps to expose you to new veggies (never tried kolrobi until this) and they are high quality and fresh. Some are organic or use organic practices (it is extremely expensive for a family farm to have that label). The facilitator is super nice and often brings extra fruit to sell with your pick up. They even were able to get me a pumpkin for me to purchase. Another nice thing is they subsidize the cost for people who are 200% the FPL (which to put in perspective is people who wouldn't quality for food assistance). I have told many of my friends about this because it is truly a fantastic program.
