4 star for the actual haircut, 5 star for the price, 1 star for the wait. I came here 3 times. If you've watched the movie barbershop, this is how to best describe this place. Great cuts, inexpensive and has a very neighborly-everyone-knows-everyone feel. If you are a regular or one of their friends, you will be fine here. Having said that, the last time I was there, I had to wait close to 3 hours to get a 15 minute haircut. This was on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few people in front of me so I expected a wait, but not that long. In addition to the people who came before me, there were a few people who came after me, who apparently had reservations or last minute touch ups or friends of the barber that was attended before me. About the haircut. Most of their clients are black. Naturally, they do really well with that. I admit, they do a really good job. My first time there, the one white barber cut my hair. Probably one of my best haircut - ever. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a schedule with him again for various reason. The other barber did a fine job as well. In the end, I value my time, more than the 20 dollars I was saving vs Shaving Grace (I've been a regular the last 2 years). In summary - great cut, inexpensive, fun very old school barber that will appeal to locals but prepare to spend inordinate amount of time waiting. read more

Terrible customer service. I used to cut my hear here all the time ten years ago. I recently moved back into the area and went in without an appointment. The barber who was in ignored me for about 1.5 hours till another barber came onsite and offered to cut my hair. I don't know why I decided to go back again, but, I did. This second time, I went in and wasn't even acknowledged by anyone even though I made sure to greet the barbers as I came in. I then watched as several customers who came in after me got served. The barbers made sure to completely ignore me as they called out other folks in front of me. I get that its a small town and everyone knows everyone, but, why would a new customer every use this place. I will spend my money anywhere else. read more

I went in to get my son's hair cut. I was driving by and saw " walk-ins welcome". When I came in, the only barber there did not say a word to me. After waiting inside and outside for 20 -25 minutes because was son was being impatient, 2 other customers arrived. I asked if they had appointments and they did. I said " we will have to come back". We left and the barber still did not acknowledge our existence. I don't think I have ever had that poor customer service ever! It was down right rude! read more

I love all the barbers. Really nice guys. They do a great job on my hair too. The only reason I give 4 stars is because they just need to develop a system that makes it a little easier to make appointments because you'll leave messages and they won't call you back. Their online site to make appointments is hard to navigate and doesn't work too well. Other than that, these guys are my go to shop. read more

Horrible customer service . These people cater to a select few , if they don't know you they will flat out deny services to you or claim they don't have appointments . They also must not like cutting toddlers hair because I've called countless times over the past 2 months and I get the same ignorant man on the phone each time telling me to call back another day . Save your time and money and go elsewhere. One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I came in without an appointment around 840am and was told by one of the barbers that they would be able to give me a cut if they could squeeze me in. He claimed to be booked all day but that he'd try to "squeeze me in before 2pm". That was a bit alarming since I've never waited that long in my entire life for a haircut and I'm from Brooklyn where barbershops are literally packed with people and I still manage to get a great cut in 10 mins. That being said, I figured I'd wait around because one of the barbers didn't seem to be doing anything. He heard me ask about a cut but instead of acknowledging a customer he proceeded to shine his clippers and detangle the cords instead, for 15 mins. After he pretended to do something for 15 mins I realized I was wasting my time here. I've never experienced anything like it before. Why wouldn't you want to make a quick buck and a new customer instead of brushing your clippers. I guess the white guy with the beard is just too cool for customers without appointments. My guy, you are a barber in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, get over yourself and hold this 1 star for your shop. read more

This barbershop... Haircuts are good. The wait is pathetic. These guys take people just walking in ahead of customers that have been waiting for hours. Hooking up their friends and disrespecting their customers that have been waiting. I called ahead and was told to come down now. I've been here 2 hours and no one has even acknowledged me. Had a great experience at All Star. Today was my first time ever getting a haircut at a local barber in Downingtown, and I was very satisfied with the cut I received at All Star. I had never noticed it before, as East Lancaster Ave. businesses have disappeared frequently in the past few years (according to the guys at the barbershop, the parking situation is bad for business, but they seem to be doing alright). Like the guy said in the other review, it has that small-town, everyone-knows-everyone feel to it. I made an appointment prior to showing up, with Jermaine Reynolds, one of the three main barbers, so i didn't have to wait very long at all. Jermaine was a very welcoming guy and was easy to have a conversation with, and didn't seem to have trouble cutting my hair while talking as some barbers i have dealt with elsewhere seemed to. Mid-way through my cut, another one of the main barbers whose name was Tom came in from lunch and he also conversed with me while i sat through my cut and tended to a client. Not to make it seem like you should only go to the barber to have a friendly conversation, but I just wanted to make the point that it made me feel welcome and comfortable, as if I was good friends with the two guys and it really made my experience that much better. As for the cut itself, Jermaine did a very thorough and careful job. I could tell that he took his work very seriously and wanted to give me the best cut he could, exactly how I had asked for it. He took his time, made sure he didn't miss any spots, and I left there feeling super fresh and looking good. They don't take credit cards, and the total for my cut was $20 (a fairly simple fade cut, no shave or anything too crazy). I didn't see any posted prices, and Jermaine did a really good job so I didn't have any issue with the price. The guy in front of me only paid $10, but i walked in toward the end of his appointment so I couldn't tell if he had more or less done than I did. I'm assuming they kind of give you a price based off how long/how much work they do on you, but im not certain because I didn't ask. All in all, good place, if you look for a simple haircut but want it done crisp and clean, definitely go to All Star. I feel like everyone, especially those who appreciate small businesses and good handy work will have a good experience here. read more

To preface this, I'm white and I've had a long time local barber who's retiring and wanted to check out some local shops to, hopefully, find a new spot. If there were zero stars I'd rate this place zero stars. The previous review explaining the neighborhood shop feel and friends/regulars jumping ahead in line sounds just about right. My experience was by far the worst I've EVER had at ANY establishment. I walked in at 3:45 on a Saturday after seeing that the website advertises 'Best in Chester County' and 'Walk In's Welcome' and they're open on Saturdays from 7am - 5pm. Long story short, I sat down with no one else waiting, was noticed by everyone but not acknowledged. Then someone from the back hollered to someone in the front 'We're not taking anyone else today.' Again, it was 3:45 on a Saturday and they're technically open until 5pm. I've never felt reverse racial prejudice until this experience. Total disregard for customer service. I'm sure the cuts are quality but the service is horrible. Keep serving the neighborhood guys and making new potential customers feel unwanted - it's a recipe for failure. Terrible business model. I've relied on Yelp for years when it comes to restaurants and services recommendations but have never reviewed any business - this horrible experience has prompted my first ever review. read more
