I have been working as an educational theatre facilitator for years mostly up in the Yukon and with aboriginal communities in Canada. Theatre is such a powerful tool in integrating change within a community. It is non- threatening, it is very fun, it can be very entertaining but most of all can communicate a message.
Enter All Nations Theatre. I was so impressed with this local group run by very experienced Albertan Richard Campbell. This is a theatre company based in Calgary whose mandate is to work with communities using interactive theatre and drama to promote positive social change. Their projects are based directly on community need.
Members of whatever community are encouraged to be part of a collective, to create and perform a piece of theatre that addresses social issues that the group is interested in. Workshops include exercises in identifying content of the performance, play development, acting techniques development, rehearsal and performance.
To name a few associations, All Nations has just recently worked with Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta and Red Cross Youth Training and Action group. This year ANT has joined forces with the Urban Youth Worxs of Calgary. Watch out for ANT in future theatre events, I will be updating future works here. read more
