It can be a bit confusing to figure out where your seat is, but the ushers are friendly and knowledgable, so ask them to point you in the right direction. The seats are tight on leg room, so if you are a taller guy, you may want to try for an aisle seat. One of the new features that they are promoting this year is pre-purchased intermission drinks. In the past, long line ups would form at the concession kiosks, and unless you had the speed and stealth of a ninja, it was difficult to even purchase a drink during the 20 minute break. If you also had to use the washroom, you had to forget about even trying! Now, before the show starts, you can order and pay for your beverage. My favorite part is that during the intermission, they set out everyone's pre-purchased drinks on a big table with your name on them. Picking them up is completely honor system based - there is no checking of receipt or anything. The honor system may not work in some settings, but it seems to work well with the upstanding folks who attend theater Calgary! The maximum capacity is 750 people. The floor seating is in the middle and is surrounded by three balconies. My seat was G 101, which means that it was the first seat in the row on the left. The G 200 seats are in the middle of the row and the G 300 seats are on the right of the theatre. The acoustics were wonderful and there was no problem getting a view of the stage where I was from. The only complaint I have was that it was a little confusing when first entering the theatre. I wasn't too sure which door led to where and I can't remember them being marked well. However, the ushers were very helpful sorting this out. There is also a nice lobby space for patrons to congregate to once the performance is over. Calgary is lucky to have so many great, world-class theatres. Go see a show and keep art and culture alive in this city!

I have always wanted to go to one of those places where you can paint some ceramic pottery things…read moreand then see what turns out after they are fired. This weekend was my chance. My choice of pottery was a vase. Yes keep it simple. There was quite a selection here from plates, cups, bowls, to more unique items like a little Sponge Bob friend, Patrick Star, a cupcake trinket holder where the top comes off and serves as a lid, to some Christmas ornaments. My friend with me chose a soap dish and a frog. I didn't think my painting skills were good enough to do anything so intricate. My frog would probably look psycho. LOL The guy that runs this place was friendly and informative. He explained about the paints and process and was great at answering my questions. This was the first time I've ever done this so I had no idea quite what to expect. There was a large selection of paints and little ceramic squares to show what the colors look like after they are fired. They had some speckled paints that looked cool. I wish they had more choices for the funky textured paints. There were only 4 choice and 2 looked pretty similar. I picked a peachy pink and taupe colors and mixed the colors together. It took a while to paint the whole vase the color then I tried a stencil in the middle on one side. The paint kind of seeped underneath so I had to fix it freehand. It actually looked not too bad once I finished. Then for the funky paint. I put some on the bottom and worked it up going from dark to light using a sponge. I have no idea what it'll look like in the end. I just hope it looks good. I'll post a picture after I go pick up my vase in a week or so. The prices seems fairly reasonable as you only pay for the piece of pottery. All your paints and the firing is included. It also helps if you have Groupon or SUTP coupon. If my vase looks good, I would like to go back and try something else. It was actually fun seeing what other people were painting and feeling some creative energy flowing. One lady here was painting this huge plate and had brought some neat stencils. One person even brought their along laptop that had photos of what they wanted their pottery to look like. This would be a fun activity to do with some friends for maybe a special occasion or something. It's also a good way to relax.

Lots of ramps and boxes etc for skateboarding, all you do is sign in with the 2 guys who are monitoring (like skateboard lifeguards kind of) and then you're good to go. There were a few kids who showed up without boards/helmets, but there was loaner equipment that they were able to borrow, and if they required assistance, one of the nice guys would happily help. I like this place. Snack machine was stacked.

I love a good Paint Nite! What a fun way to hang with your friends and do something other than just…read moredrink and eat. Paint Nite always has tons of different and new art paintings and they have decent distribution around town so you can usually find a painting you like at a pub near you. I have zero artistic talents, but if I can do it then so can you. The instructors are really good about going through the steps with you, keeping you on time, and helping if you encounter problems. It's intimidating to put the first swipe of paint on the pristine canvas, but after you get over that hurdle, it strangely becomes easier and you start to get in the zone and just flow. So if you're afraid to try it because you don't have an artistic bone in your body like me, I say give it a try - you'll be amazed what you can accomplish! And keep reminding yourself that it's just for fun, so you remove the pressure from yourself and just enjoy time with your buddies!

I'm no artist and I was pretty sure this was going to be a case of throwing my money away and ending up with something I'd toss in the nearest dumpster. So, you can imagine how thrilled & surprised I am that I have something that I...actually like. It's not fine art, by any means, but it's actually something i won't be ashamed to hang on my apartment walls. The basic premise of Paint Nite is simple - you congregate in a bar, order yourself some bevvies, and proceed to follow along with painting the picture chosen by your Paint Nite instructor for the night, who also supplies all the painting materials. Our painting was a blossom tree in front of a full moon - perfectly pretty and girly for a bachelorette. We arrived, grabbed seats (we should have arrived earlier or asked them to reserve us a block of seats, as we could not all sit together when we arrived about 5 minutes before it started). And then off we started. I immediately thought I was screwing up (apparently, I can not paint a symetrical circle), but the staff was really good at calming my ruffled feathers and giving me ideas for how to ensure it wound up right by the end of the evening. And indeed it did! My moon is a little un-spherical, and my tree isn't very proportonate, but for my first time ever wielding a paintbrush, I'm pretty pleased - and I can definitely see how paint nites would be a regular event for many people! If I have any critiques, it was that there need to be more seats facing the artist, vs. a 50/50 split of facing and away. I know in this regards they're working with the bar's space, but it does make it more difficult to hear & see what's going on (even though the instructor brings the art work around frequently to let you see the next step). The headset microphone the instructor was wearing also needs a bit of work - it was very, very difficult to understand her through it (it either needs servicing or she needs to wear it further from her mouth). All in all though, it was a fun night & a great bonding activity for me to get to know my sister's friends at. I'd definitely be interested in doing another one!

Kelsea actually works out of her home and for the respect of her privacy; I have excluded her home address here. Kelsea took over Details Talent 3 years ago and in those 3 short years she has gained a very respectful reputation here in Calgary with casting directors and production companies. She oversees a roster of around 50 clients, and she also represents a dozen or so young children. She is moving her roster from modelling clients to more of acting clients and she has had a lot of her talent get huge commercial work and in TV and Film. What I like about her the most is she is young and she has a fresh and youthful energy. She is driven and she is honest. Her main essential in her relationship with you is communication, and sometimes an actor can get overlooked in a larger agency, but because her roster is smaller she can give more personable service. If yelpers are interested in acting career here in the city, the season is quite slow right now because of the recession but major movies have been filmed here. Like "Brokeback Mountain" and the "X Men". Simply because we have options of beautiful prairies and mountain ranges, we have a desert and Drumheller; we can even look like New York or Europe. I think Kelsea is pretty top notch and although I haven't made a decision yet she is one of the more serious talent agencies in town. Could be that I'm high on life for seeing Cat Empire here tonight, the second time in my life at…read morethis venue... but I learned a valuable lesson. MacEwan Hall actually can sound good... You just can't over play it. Well, you really really can, but don't. Just don't. Loud music is awesome, but louder isn't better at Mac Hall. I think a lot of band go for the full volume thing and then it really shows off it's giant square concrete box sound profile. That said, I didn't really take a wander to the back of the room at this show so there's a good possibility that the sounds bounce around more and more as you go back so by the time you're at the beer gardens the concert is just a garbled mess. So far it's too soon to confirm so Mac Hall, you're sitting at a 4-star from me right now. I'll go dance the night away at some more concerts and get back to you. Parking is a little annoying since it's at the university and it's a bit of a hike from the C-Train Station.

It's intimate, yet large enough to host a crowd of Calgarians starving for good music because everyone seems to go to either Toronto, Vancouver, or hell, DEADmonton before they stop in our neck of the woods. I'm looking at you, Ben Folds. So even though all the kinderbats, tubbigothis, mall gravers and 15 year old poseurs all gather here for bands you were listening to when they were barely out of diapers... and you recoil in horror when one of them asks if you want to make out; I have a special place in my heart for MacEwan Hall. And a pepper spray strapped to my ankle.
