I have some special (to me) items that I want to donate but I wanted to see the shop first. Everything was very nice and organized and items were displayed well, and treated respectfully. I could tell the staff takes a lot of pride in their work. As one other reviewer shared, this is also a store that is serving the community. While I was there I observed the staff providing clothing and other items directly to those in need, (via a voucher -so all very well organized). I made a small purchase and the check out team carefully wrapped up my 4 glasses to ensure they made it home safely and I was very touched by their kindness. I hope others will consider shopping here and also donating their treasures to Catholic Charities. I still have quite a few things from my parents home that I have had a hard time letting go of, but after visiting, I feel the items will be appreciated and handled kindly and may help make a difference.

Vicky is the pantry manager and has excellent skills in gathering free supplies and food to be donated. Many south bay companies have come together to become involved and give to this gilroy community in their time of need. Through Gavilan College they offer students to work here for minimum wage. Every week the volunteers who work here make sure they can hand out hundreds of bags of groceries to folks who might not be able to make ends meet. Many local businesses and private parties donate time/money/products to make this happen and the volunteers who run the daily operations are truly good people who probably don't get enough recognition.

Even though I give food to lots of local food drives, I would not have made the trip over to the Food Bank myself without a little extra impetus! The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo has just changed its name to the San Luis Obispo County Food Bank. They are located on Kendall Road, across from the airport, and will take direct donations. We had a bunch of dry soups near their expiration date, and packaged them all up in a box and took them over. They were happy to give us a short tour, and we were surprised to see that they are in a big warehouse space. Our "guide" told us that they feed 30,000 individuals in SLO per month. I also read an article in the New Times that stated that they are looking for a new director. Our donation weighed in at 27 pounds. We got a receipt, and felt good for taking the drive over to the Food Bank.
