I was one of the first patients that went to this clinic when it first opened up around 2019. I recommended everyone to go because of the quick wait time and amazing dentistry. Since then, it's been downhill regarding wait time and quality of work. Back then, you can schedule a filling appointment within 1-2 weeks and walk in at your appointment time and see the doctor within 30 min. Now, you have to wait 2-3 MONTHS for a filling appointment and walk in at your appointment time and see the doctor within 45 to 75 min. More than double because of the overbooking on appointments they do. As for service, which connects back to the influx of patients, the doctor does not care as he used to. Back then, the doctor would explain exactly what the issues were and break down the treatment. For example, for fillings, he would show you the exact teeth with cavities and how many appointments were needed with which ones would get done at each appointment. Now, he just walks in, says he doing fillings with no overview of what's going on with the teeth, numbs the area and does the job, then quickly goes to the next patient. I understand this is a business and time is money, but the route they are on is sacrificing customer service to squeeze in as many patients as possible. This would be a good issue to have if it did not affect their service which I'll explain on the next point. Personal experience The whole reason this is a large response is because of my personal experience as well as my mother. I recently went in for a filling appointment that I had to wait 3 months for. The waiting room was 80% full. My appointment was at 2. I walked in and sat down at 2. I was then taken inside to the room at 2:50. They numbed the area at 3:10. The doctor started working on my teeth at 3:15. He was finished by 3:25. On the time aspect, that is atrocious. Secondly, when the doc put the anastasia needle in, he poked 3 times before it finally went in. This has caused the injection spot to become inflamed and super sensitive to any food touching it, basically rendering that whole side unusable when eating. It's been 4 days and the injection side is still red/inflamed/sensitive and I haven't been able to eat with it. All because the doctor poked 3 times in that area. All because he had a million patients before and after me. All because they overbook and run on an unneeded super tight schedule. This is the worst dental experience/result I've had and will be the last time I come here. As for my mother, similar story with the needle issue. She had an appointment a couple months ago for a root canal. The doctor came in and did the same mistake. Poking a couple of times and creating multiple injection areas. In addition, half way through the treatment, my mother felt pain and she had to do another dose of anastasia. For a whole week after the appointment, my mother had a bump inflamed area over the injection spots. This is unacceptable. Again, the doctors used to be good. But now it's a gamble of whether you're going to get a good treatment or deal with sloppy painful results. Sad to see because I used to love this spot. read more

I came as caregiver to my father-in-law who got both regular checkup and a tooth extraction here for which my sister-in-law and I wanted him in the very best hands so given my personal high esteem and experience with NYU Dental's in-house pediatric dentistry clinic, we were so totally pleased Dr. Hsu has started his new office very near us here in Southern Brooklyn. Scheduling was a total breeze with a prominent website to easily share and confer contacts and in-language explainer of his business which is more for the trust and communications ease of a site rather than the info which is largely self-explanatory. That it's a brand new office with new construction thus cleaner easier-to-maintain conditions that're COVID-appropriate is totally helpful. The interior is sterling but the staff, whether front desk admins (including all important intake and billing and scheduling) to tech aides (who do the real screening) to the doctor himself are all top notch with no perceptable flaws or complaints herein. Their communications, friendliness, graciousness, and proactive service all make for a stellar dental experience on both the regular preventive as well as the more severe procedures. Location is easy on 20th Ave with easy usual Brooklyn paid parking and if you'll walk up to a block, likely 1m search for free local residential non-alternate-side parking. I recommend Dr. Hsu totally for any adult dentistry. read more

Called in for an emergency to fix my tooth, but receptionist said they can't fix my tooth on the first visit. I have to do an annual check up and then come back a second time to fix my broken tooth. I told them I need to get my tooth fix first and then do annual check up but she said no. I asked if I can do the annual check up and also fix my tooth the same visit, but she said no again. This is like going to the ER for emergency but the ER Dr. tells you to go back to your Primary Care Physician for an annual first, come back in two weeks to take care of the emergency. Makes no sense. They want to milk my insurance and make sure I come twice, they don't care what the patient really need, not ethical practice. read more

I have my distrust with the medical profession, so naturally I wouldn't settle for a half-hearted professional. Dr. Hsu is different. I have been with him for years, even before his current established clinic. His display of brilliance and honesty is what kept me with him for this long. He is willing to listen and answer questions; the very quality which I appreciates the most. Dr. Hsu explains and offers his service accordingly, because he understands that the security I value in knowing the purpose for the service provided. He genuinely cares. I leave his office knowing a little more of my teeth every time. He is nothing short of professional. He gives me the autonomy when it comes to decisions. I feel comfortable going to him, and It's been a delight to have him care for my dental health. I also want to give my gratitude to the ladies at the front desk. It is very hard to find a dentist with good reviews that takes Medicaid. This dentist seemed good for awhile until he told me I needed a root canal. I asked him if it's really necessary since I didn't feel pain and he said the tooth was dead and had to come out. I went to get a second opinion from a dentist that was recommended to me and he gave me a cold test to see if I could feel anything on my supposedly dead tooth. This new dentist said Dr. Hsu must've been trying to just get some money out of me for a root canal because the tooth was fine. read more

Glad I found Dr. Hsu as my new dentist Ever since I left my job last year I have been looking for a good dentist in my neighborhood. There are plenty of dentists in my neighborhood but the quality can be horrendous. Most of their offices have been opened for so long you can probably wipe dust off their equipment with your finger. That's not the case with Dr. Hsu's new office. His office is bright and new. Although his receptionists probably don't speak English as their first language, I had no problem at all communicating with them in English. Dr. Hsu speaks perfect English and he answered all my questions about my teeth and gums. The cleaning was pain free but I get a checkup/cleaning every 6 months so my cleaning probably wasn't as deep/I'm use to it. Looking forward to dragging my wife in for a checkup. She really has no reason not to go with his office so close to our home. read more

I have always been afraid of coming to the dentist. Maybe bc the previous one I went to felt so unprofessional and their office was dark and gloomy! Well long story short, a friend referred me to Dr. Hsu and I love it here. The office is bright and clean. I feel that Dr. Hsu actually cares about his patients vs. about the money. My teeth were bad and I had an infection, Dr. Hsu took care of it and I had 2 root canals done too. My daughters love him, he's great with kids as well! read more

The dental office of Dr. Howard Hsu is highly unethical and you will be screwed if you want to pursue any legal action against them. A few weeks after I wrote the first review (see below), I went to the dental office to get a copy of all of my records in case I want to pursue legal action. What I saw in the notes of each visit was not accurate to reality. For those two cavity appointments, there were notes on what was done, but along that was the same blurb (copy and pasted) about how the doctor spoke to me in detail about any potential risks, informed consent, and that I agree to the treatment plan despite any negative side effects, basically absolving them of any liability. They never reviewed this with me, let alone the SEVEN risks that I apparently agreed to. They basically copied and pasted this in all of the sessions where they operated to cover their ass when they, in fact, did not discuss any of this with me during those sessions before we operated. Here is the full blurb in case you want to see what they say and what you most likely will agree to according to their records, but not according to the reality of what happens in your session: "Discussed with patient about risks and informed consent: Patient understands that the treatment of dentition involving the placement of composite resin fillings, which may be more aesthetic in appearance than some of the conventional materials that have been traditionally used, such as silver amalgam or gold, may entail certain risks. There is the possibility of failure to achieve the desired or expected results. Patient agreed to assume those risks that may occur, even if care and diligence is exercised by the treating dentist in rendering this treatment. These risks include possible unsuccessful results and/or failure of the filling associated with, but not limited to, the following: 1. Sensitivity of teeth 2. Risk of fracture 3. Necessity for root canal therapy after filling is complete 4. Injury to the nerves 5. Aesthetics of appearance 6. Breakage, dislodgement or bond failure 7. Dr. Hsu is the best dentist I have ever experienced. I am glad that I found him. I was looking for a good dentist around my area, so I googled for one. I read some great reviews about Dr.Hsu so I decided to give him a try. My first experience was great, I love that fact that he explained everything to me and what my teeth needed to be done. Dr Howard Hsu lacks basic dentistry skills. My son needed three fillings. Everything was fine until Dr Hsu began the third fill in. While working on my son's tooth, Dr Hsu failed to place the clamp used to secure the tooth properly which led to my son swallowing the clamp while under his care! Dr Hsu had to call 911 and I took my son to the emergency room to locate the clamp. The dentist was negligent. We will never go back to Dr Hsu and I recommend any one considering this office to go elsewhere. This should have never happened. read more

Just went in for my annual cleaning. Very glad Dr. Hsu finally has his own clinic. I have been a patient of his for years and have followed him to his new clinic. I am so glad I stumbled upon this gem! The office is so clean, and the staff is fantastic. One of the things that freak me out is an office that is dirty!!! HOWEVER, everything is packed in a sterilization bag and is opened in front of you. They also tape down all the handles and it is changed between each patients. The assistants who took my x-rays were very nice and quick. Dr. Hsu, the dentist, was very respectful and kind. He addressed all my concerns, and I love that he was very conservative with my treatment. I thought I would need a root canal, but he was able to fix my tooth with just a filling! My cleaning was also painless. I can not express how grateful I am to Dr. Hsu. At the end of my dental visit, I knew I had found my forever dentist!
