Having never tried acupuncture before going here, I was a little apprehensive about the results I'd receive from the sessions and chinese herbs prescribed to me by Michael. From the first session with Michael until present, I've noticed a perceptible shift in my overall life balance (yin and yang) and also ability to deal with stress - thanks to Michael and the care he puts into each session and acupuncture patient. He's highly qualified and knows what he's doing. Michael not only takes the time to talk and "diagnose" you before each acupuncture session, but also genuinely cares about your well-being and progress between sessions. I highly recommend Yong Kang (and acupuncture) to anyone who's having any sort of issue (whether medical or if they are just feeling 'off'). Very much worth the sessions and herbs (and the session package options are great)! Best acupuncturist in the area, wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

It was either go to pain treatment, or try Eastern medicine. While I have only attended a couple of sessions, I could not be happier with Dr. Michael and his care. In my last session, I had both acupuncture and cupping. This left me so relaxed I felt like I had just come back from vacation! I don't honestly know if acupuncture will be a cure for my migraines long term, but I know I haven't felt this good in years.

Meeting Dr. Andrea and becoming her patient was one of the best things I did in 2014. I can't say…read moreenough good things about her and her staff! I have a host of physical and mental health issues, and almost all of them have been improved by her treatments. Not only is Dr. Andrea well-educated, but I feel that she is a naturally gifted and intuitive healer; she always seems to just "know" what's wrong and how to adjust it. She also makes you feel like you two are a team working together to find the best treatments specifically for your needs, rather than some doctors who take the "I'm-the-doctor-so-just-shut-up-and-do-what-I-tell-you" approach. (Admittedly, many of them are specifically in the traditional/Western medicine field, rather than that of complementary and alternative medicine [CAM]. This is why I love CAM whenever possible!) Her staff is friendly and helpful, and they make you feel like family when you walk in. Michelle, the massage therapist, also does a great job. The office is convenient to get to, spacious, and decorated in a warm and comforting way. Dr. Andrea has also gone the extra mile to help make her treatments affordable. She has a chiropractic club, and Michelle has a massage club. Basically, you pay a fee monthly and you then have reduced rates and/or multiple/additional visits per month. As Dr. Andrea is not one of my insurance's Tier One providers, this has been a huge help so that I can continue to receive excellent care. Finally, in addition to the chiropractic work, acupuncture, and massage therapy that you can get in her office, Dr. Andrea also knows about nutrition and supplements, and you can get many of them right there in her office. (One of my favorites has been Natural Calm, a magnesium supplement that helps relax the body and muscles.) If you're looking for a new chiropractor, you won't go wrong going to see Dr. Andrea.

I grew up as a ballerina and needless to say it wasn't that easy on my body - I trained on concrete floors, pushed my muscles to the limit, and it ended up taking a huge toll on me once I hit my mid-twenties. For the past year and a half, I have only slept 3-5 hours a night, was often limping on my right leg, and was basically learning to just live with the pain. I went to so many doctors and spent thousands of dollars only to be told to try antidepressants. I was met with blank stares because my scans were all clean, and that it was a muscular issue. After the orthopedic route, I tried massage, sensory deprivation floating, and everything in between. I was basically taking Advil every few hours and still not sleeping. Doesn't that sound like a lot of fun? Hello, walking zombie Aimee. I had always had a negative opinion of chiropractors and I'm not sure why... but I was always against the idea, even when I was really being pushed to go by someone who saw the pain firsthand. I guess I finally got to a point where I would try anything, and I'm so glad I went to see Dr. Nancy. I'm actually really bummed I didn't do it much earlier. Nancy made my first visit so comfortable - I told her I didn't want my neck adjusted because it just freaked me out too much, and she gladly obliged (even though I bet she was secretly rolling her eyes at me.) Over the past 5-6 weeks I've been doing a combination of electro stem, acupuncture, and adjustments. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a quick fix - I had some painful days for sure, but each week I've gotten better and I'm now officially at zero pain. I can't even believe it. My visits are becoming less and less frequent and I'm even back to the treadmill and light workouts. I am seriously so grateful for Nancy and also her awesome receptionist Lisa who is so friendly and makes appointment scheduling easy! Can't recommend this practice enough. Stop thinking about it and just go! PS. Wish I could give a sixth star just because I got to meet her cute rescue doggie the last time I was in.

I can't believe I'm the first to review Westside Pain Clinic. What's WRONG with you other…read morepatients?!! :-) I've been going to chiropractors for 30 years off and on. Originally from Dixon, IL I'm newer to Springfield IL as of 2013. In Mach of 2015 I was in the 90th percentile across every fitness parameter you'd want to test for 50 year old men. By August of 2015 I was almost housebound barely able to walk. What started as what felt like a rib out of place, giving me a pinch pain (left) when I slept on my right side, progressed from March 2015 to August 2015 with me barely being able to leave the house. Beginning March 2015 I began seeing a couple other chiropractors in town and, while fine for the most part, they were quickly out of answers when my pain progressed. Frustrated and in serious, debilitating pain, I wanted to try another chiropractor and found Dr. Chris Clem D.C. at his Westside Pain Clinic (locations in Springfield and Auburn IL). After just a few visits with no significant improvement he was quick to suggest I see an ortho-based medical doctor for a possible injection, MRI, evaluation etc. I respect this and it shouldn't be glossed over. Not all chiros/docs will refer as quickly but instead will opt to drag out the treatments and $$ as long as possible. Dr. Clem has everything from a DRS spine decompression machine (few chiros have this) to muscle stim, cold laser, a REAL human being who does hand massage prior to adjustment, smart activator tools (for when you're in too much pain as I was and can't hack the harder manual adjustments) etc. I did see an orthopedic physician who ordered an MRI. It was negative for problems. In all? After the first visit with this ortho physician I saw 13 other specialists between June and September (e.g., medical doctors, physical therapists) were all "stymied" as more than one said. I continued to go to Dr. Clem 2-3 times a week NOT because he was cajoling me into doing so but because I would at least get a few hours of significant relief everytime I went. If you've ever been in chronic pain you will understand why a few hours of relief has significant value. And if you've never been in this situation you will never understand fully. It was Dr. Clem, as we continued to converse via email and in person (by the way Dr. Clem was also willing to e-mail with my physical therapists too - there wasn't some territorial pissing match going on), who said he felt I had "lax ligaments." He felt he was likely putting things in place but the ligaments were not holding the rib head etc in place. Although more rare than standard problems recognized by chiros and docs, it's not as rare as most think. He recommended I at least check out Dr. David Crane out of Chesterfield, Missouri who specializes in medically-based alternative treatments. I made that appointment but it was two months down the road. His suggestion had me researching lax ligaments and long story short I'm now in treatment by Dr. Ross Hauser M.D., a physiatrist specializing in prolotherapy (a treatment specific for ligament problems). Two physical therapists here in Springfield clued me that they felt it was "something mechanical." I believe they were right. Dr. Clem added the "lax ligaments" theory. I believe he is right. All the physicians otherwise were CLUELESS and out of tools. What this means, if you're the patient, is you are the can they kick down the road. Once they run out of tools they don't dig any more for you. They don't research further. They don't find you the answer. They're just DONE with you. They most times won't even refer out of their own physician network. I was essentially prescribed narcotics for pain and wished the best - they were all done with me with no other doc to refer me to. They were truly clueless. But thanks to Dr.Clem and two physical therapists I had enough to research and at least make the next move, albeit slightly outside the traditional medicine route. Again, if you're in chronic, nearly debilitating pain? You understand. As of this writing I'm not out of the woods but, for the first time in eight months, I'm actually improving. Did Dr. Clem "fix" me? No. But what he did do was provide incredibly skilled and effective chiropractic care with the latest equipment AND he quickly referred me toward medical doctor rather than bleed me dry just because AND he was the ONLY one to even mention the possibility that I may have lax ligaments - which as things are progressing - seems to be a major part of what ended up being wrong with me. Time will tell but it certainly seems I'm on the right track now. I still see Dr. Clem for treatments. Between the prolotherapy and chiropractic care I finally have hope and IMPROVEMENT which I haven't had in eight months.
