This is a reply to the response from Frances M, one of the business owners, to my initial review. So you're saying that you believe $500 for 30 mins is reasonable for a conversation about whether I can afford or actually need the long-term root cause approach to my health conditions? I had a discovery call with you prior to this consultation and you told me that my case was the type of case that your clinic works with all the time. This is why I decided to pay the $500 because I thought I would get an individualized plan. I have had consultations with other functional medicine practitioners and naturopaths before and this appointment was used to build a plan for me. Not listen to a sales pitch. I found out the cost for these other providers' programs during the 15 minute discovery call. And by the way, you are not telling the truth about offering a $35,000 program. You said "For accuracy, we don't offer a $35,000 program". I have documents to prove that you do, which I've posted here. There are three tiers I was offered: Platinum 12 month program, a Gold 12 month program but not as many "perks" and visits, and then a 6 month program, which I was deterred from because I have a lot of issues and it takes time to resolve (which I agree with). And all of these programs don't include labs or supplements!! I was being steered towards the Platinum program for 35k, BUT if I signed up before 7/30/25 and paid in full, I would only pay $25k! Heck of a deal! "Spots are limited! Fast Action Bonus if you sign up today!" Seriously this is what you hear on an infomercial or used car sales lot. You are clearly just motivated by money and not helping people. Wow! I am quite disappointed with my experience. Over the course of numerous months I was peddled a bunch of over priced "natural" meds that were not covered by insurance...fun fact, these are all products sold and packaged by Dr. Mark's business. Dr Mark's charges an exorbitant fee for a 15 minute appt. The connection almost always has poor connection. He also rushes through call trying to end it as soon as possible. I have since moved onto another doctor. When I called his office requesting a copy of my medical records, they insisted the only way they would give them to me is if i paid $30 for them...ie holding my medical records hostage. This review is not about the DR but about the dr's office. The doc is great. He treats his patient well. But the dr office is not so good. They charge you deposit and deductible even when your just supposed to pay co-pay. And when your insurance is covering most of the payments. So be aware of what they charging you. If they are charging more then copay better start asking questions of why you have to pay the additional charges. I just want people to know. Because money don't grow on tree. read more

Today was the second time I had a scheduled a follow up appointment with Dr. Mark and he is over an hour late. My first follow up appointment he was an hour and a half late. His office is quick to call you to get their payment but as you're sitting around waiting for the doctor to send you the video link, your whole day is gone. I understand that things are chaotic with COVID-19 but Dr. Mark needs to do a better job of communicating to patients that the doctor will be SUBSTANTIALLY late to his appointments. Stay away. Stay far away. Unless you love a doctor that does not treat your time with respect and an office with incredibly bad (read borderline illegal) billing practices. I saw Dr. Mark in late 2016 and early 2017 for hemorrhoid issues. While his treatment ended up resulting is a good handful of years of reducing the problem, my experience with him and his office both during and after my care there was subpar at best and absolutely terrible at worst. I had to have a handful of appointments for my treatment and for each and every one, I had to wait quite a while past my appointment time. Most resulted in about a half hour waiting time. But, one appointment had me wait to see him for one and a half hours. One and a half hours! And when he finally walked in, he gave not a single word of apology for having made me wait with absolutely no information for such a long time. I understand that appointments run over but to not even acknowledge my lost time was incredibly disrespectful. I finished my treatment and have not returned since. Fast forward 5, yes 5 (five) years and I get a call from his office (which has now changed names several times) saying that my bills will be going to collection for non-payment. I freaked out because I had no idea that there were any unpaid bills. For context, I was living with my parents at the time and could not cover all the costs myself as a young adult with an entry level job, so my parents were footing the bills. I actually left town and moved out of state shortly after my treatment finished and my parents were just going to pay the bills as they came so I did not track very closely. My parents are always very good about paying bills on time so I was very confused how not a single bill from my treatment had been paid. I assumed it was an error and dove deep into records. My parents found no record of ever receiving or paying these bills. Had it just been one bill that had been missed I would have chalked it up to human error, maybe my parents missed one - it happens. But this was all 6 bills covering every visit I had the the few months I went to see Dr. Mark. There is no way that my parents missed 6 separate bills AND any bills that might have been resent. I came to the conclusion that we were never actually sent these bills. When I asked why I was only hearing of this after 5 years, I was told they were cleaning up their records. So, basically, they never sent the bills and were just trying to recoup damages. They would not admit this, of course and were steadfastly adamant that I was the one who messed up, not them. They would not provide me with proof that they had ever sent the bills and all my statement dates were from one month before they called me. I had to call my insurance to even get correct billing dates since the ones Dr. Mark's office had were not even correct. They tried to pass this off on the fact that they got a new filing system and could not get information from before then....how professional. I tried to settle with them since legally I did not have to pay as I was past the statute of limitations in California (4 years) but they refused to allow me to even speak with the billing manager (Dr. Mark's wife - she will deny it but her own staff say she is the manager) and simply demanded I pay or these bills were going to collection. They constantly gave me the run around as well as totally ridiculous reasoning for why they could not do this or provide info on that. Even getting through to the office was hard since I would have to wait on hold for a minimum of 10 mins each time before speaking to anyone. I went so far as to reach out to lawyers about this mess because everything was incredibly bad business practice. In the end I paid because the stress of it all was too much at a time when I was moving and because the charges were ultimately legitimate and for treatment that was partially successful (I still have the same issues reoccurring but not as bad as before treatment). I also did not want to deal with a debt collector nor did I want to risk my credit score being hit for THEIR mistake, especially at a time where I was looking to buy a car and rent an apartment. BUT, I never once got an apology from them or any admission that they mucked it up. Not once. They care about getting their money and nothing more. So, stay away. Bad doctor, bad office. Never, ever going to even come close to this place again. read more

Dr Mark TRULY cares about his patients. He takes time to listen and always tries to find out the ROOT CAUSE of your problem versus covering it up with medication. I really like that about him. And that's really important because our bodies can often times heal ourselves when a good provider helps us figure out what's wrong and gives us honest and healthy guidance. Horrible customer service. I had to call multiple times to get an overview of my appointments or some kind of agenda and I NEVER received it after both appointments. I would have to call 5-10x a day because no one would answer. I don't think this doctor cares about his patients. He will tell you " a plan " but does he actually help you execute this plan? The office has the worst customer service and office staff I have ever experienced. Dr. Mark's wife, Dr. Frances, takes everything personally when you don't book the appointments she thinks you need. It is all about money. They don't return phone calls or emails promptly but have no problem calling to ask for payment before the doctor appointment. After all the mistakes, they gave me a gift certificate to use then refused to let me use it. Since I would not book all the appointments Dr. Mark's wife wanted me to do, they sent me a rude letter dropping as a patient. Who does that? I spent over $2,000 with them with no results. They just want to see their products to you. Its horrible. However, Dr. Mark is very nice and I think wants to help but it is his staff that breaks them. read more

This business is extremely unprofessional. When I originally made an appointment the office did not seem very organized so I had a conversation with them about how their communication and follow up worked. The woman I spoke to assured me that they were very responsive to their patients. Unfortunately after my second appointment, which I payed $696 out of pocket for, I found that this was not the case. After they got my money I did my online appointment with Dr. Mark and he ended up being a little over 30 minutes late. There was no heads up from the office. I had to keep calling before I could get an answer from anyone. They told me that they could not estimate when and if Dr. Mark would be late to his appointments and there would be no heads up. Dr. Mark seem to have good knowledge about his work but the system in which we communicated on made it difficult as I could barely hear and the video kept cutting out. Two weeks later I still have not gotten my super bill which I was promised to give to insurance. I was emailing multiple times as well as calling multiple times and left voicemails. When I finally got in touch with someone through email they sent me a super bill for only part of the cost which I paid out of pocket. I called the office again and the phone was ringing for five minutes straight before I finally got in touch with someone like every time before. I don't know if they are adequately staffed or not because it seems they are unable to answer the phone most of the time when I call even after a long time has passed. I finally spoke with a man about the super bill and he told me that part of the cost was for the living matrix which was nonrefundable and not able to be billed to insurance. This contradicted what I was told by the representative I had spoke with before I paid for my appointment. She had told me that the entire thing was going to be included for the super bill. He told me that I needed to look at my agreement that I signed for my financial responsibility. I had seen that however their representative assured me that the living matrix would still be on the superbill so I took her word on it. I even made sure to clarify with her. The man I spoke to kept re-stating to me that I had in fact received a super bill and I told him that I acknowledge I received it however it was not for the full amount. He kept going back to the point that I still got a super bill even if it was not a full amount. The super bill itself is still not correct because I need a tax ID in order to submit it to insurance which it does not have. The real issue here is that I was assured by the representative that I would be reimbursed for the full cost even with the paperwork that was presented which I clarified with the representative and they are not willing to take responsibility for their miss information that they have given me. To summit up the issues I am having is the lack of communication, the lack of responsibility taken, and the dishonest charges. The man repeatedly told me that the front desk is not responsible for billing so they can't be held accountable for their miss information that they give patients. This practice seems extremely shady and I wish I had trusted the reviews on their yelp page more. I have never been to a clinic where people are so unprofessional and unwilling to take accountability and responsibility. read more

My mother had brain surgery 4 years ago and ever since then it's been a battle to find her a specialist who can recommend supplements that can help her heal without prescription drugs. Horrible experience. I was referred by my primary for my daughter. It appeared the young man checking us in barely knew what he was doing and was proceeding to train a young lady!!!??? Didn't ask me for my insurance card I had to ask if he wanted it. He never gave me the paperwork to fill out even though I got there early to do so. I ended up having to fill them out in the room. Another thing I found odd was they sell skin care product...At a gastroenterologist??? Then they got her gender wrong, the doctor wanted to verify she was 11 years old. What??? They got her birthday wrong but come on you can tell she isn't 11. They wanted to put my daughter on some sort of natural remedy for ADHD...Again, at a gastroenterologist??? I was just done. We had a horrible experience with Dr. Mark. First, my mom had a medical procedure which required specific instructions, the staff and Dr. did not provide any prior instructions and left the patient to figure it out on their own. After the procedure, Dr. Mark said one sentence to my mom and did not go over anything else, despite us asking. 2 weeks later, we had an appointment for the results and Dr. Mark was running 1 hour late. We requested a Zoom call and not a phone call. Dr. Mark called on the phone instead. On the phone, he tried to rush my mom and wanted to end the conversation within 2 minutes. We waited for 1 hour and the Dr. Mark did not want to answer our questions and clarify the results. He kept trying us to book another appointment but under a "Functional Med appointment" where we would have to pay out of pocket. He also kept trying to push his herbal medicines. When we asked him specifics on his herbal medicines and the purpose of a functional medicine appointment, he said that the "girls the the front desk" will explain this to you." We will wanted a response from the Dr., not a sales pitch from the secretary. We never received any actual medical advice. I would not recommend this MD if you are looking for caring doctor who will give your more than his 3 minutes of time. The called ended abruptly with no answers, but confusion. read more

After Will Lane, MD retired I needed a new GE to help manage my ulcerative colitis. I've seen Dr. Mark twice and he is one of the best MDs I've ever seen. He has suggested tests Dr. Lane never imagined to better titrate my meds and manage my disease. He is very smart, upbeat and seems to take a personal interest in making sure my UC doesn't flare up and that the SE of my meds are managed appropriately. He has taken a more holistic approach to my UC and suggested some dietary restrictions. They have worked miraculously and I am now off prednisone for longer than I have been in the past 8 years. Over 1 hour wait for the doctor on 3 different visits here. When I did see him he was in a rush to get me out the door and asked me to ask any questions I had while he walked me out No bedside manner at all. Further, the staff was extremely unfriendly and rude on both occasions. Later, when I called up to pay a bill, they took my credit card number and just disconnected leaving me hanging with no confirmation. Also, be aware that they charge you approx 2% extra for using credit cards for visits to the doctor. First doctor's office where I found them scrounging for the credit card surcharges. My first colonoscopy was with Dr Mark just over 10 years ago. He was very attentive and pleasant as is the rest of his staff. I have GI issues which I deal with through diet and his office has a full line of products for my issues and other issues as well. One product I use and have actually bought for others is the Vegan Meal. It is both satisfying and tasty. This review is past due. I have to say before coming to Dr Marks I went all over town trying to find someone who could help me with my hard to diagnose stomach issues. I had Dr Rowe who was extremely angry/ rude belittle me, Dr Shelby who wanted to scope me the next day without asking any simple questions (later I learned this guy scopes everyone and their mom for fast cash), and Dr Friedman who needs to retire ASAP. Dr Marks was referred to me on Nextdoor and wow he's such a breath of fresh air. He is very attentive, dedicated, and compassionate. I think best of all for me he is educated in both naturopathic and traditional medicine, so he gives you both perspectives. So many Dr's don't know enough about nutrition and good supplements and tend to push prescription drugs on their patients.
