If you consider your cats family as I do, there is no question that they should receive the very best vet care which is what you will find here. Although the cost at the All Cat Clinic is a little higher than at most other vets, the cost is justified and well worth it. The quality of care provided is well above that of any other vet I have ever been to. If you bring your cat in with any kind of problem, they follow up with phone calls to make sure that your cat is making good progress. I feel that Dr. Nelson's specialized skills in working with cats also makes the cost worthwhile. Dr. Nelson discovered a heart problem with one of my cats that was not very obvious...it would have been very easy to overlook. She did not "sugar coat" anything in regards to the possibilities of what could happen with my cat, but at the same time was very supportive. She gave her suggestions and advice, but did not try to push me to make any decisions. Although I made the decision to have the cat euthanized, my cat did not suffer because Dr. Nelson discovered her heart problem. The staff was also extremely compassionate during this time which made things easier. I also took one of my cats to the emergency vet over a weekend and this cat was a mess from a urinary tract blockage. Dr. Nelson made a few changes to the plan given to me at the emergency vet and we had him feeling much better in a very short time! They are also amazing with cats that have extra bad attitudes. I have one cat who has actually been banned from one vet and another vet would not treat her without sedation. She has had many visits to the cat clinic and although she is still a huge pain, she is not nearly as afraid and anxious as she was at other vets. It is very obvious that Dr. Nelson and her staff know how to correctly handle the cats with nasty attitudes. Our cat is family and as family you do whatever it takes to sustain their health and happiness. We met Dr. Nelson 10 years ago now when another local veterinarian referred us to the University of Illinois Small Animal Clinic. After they diagnosed her with severe allergies and gave us allergy shots and due to her weight being down to nearly 3 pounds, these shots nearly killed her. We then sought out the advice of Dr. Nelson. This cat had open sores all over her head, in her ears and was quite lethargic. Dr. Nelson began medication, ointment, change of food based on the allergy testing done at the U of I and within month she was on the mend. Dr. Nelson saved her life. We had a recent issue with an eye problem, an eye sequestra which required surgery. Dr. Nelson surgically repaired the hole in the cornea and prepared a corneal flap to cover the eye so it could heal. Once the flap was opened not only did she save her eye but her sight as well. My husband and I are blessed that we do not have financial issues which restrain the costs of our pet's treatment. I truly believe this is why we chose Sammy Jo when we took the runt of the litter as we knew she needed us. Without Dr. Nelson and her loving care, our pet would not be alive today. Dr. Nelson and her staff have experienced my tears more than once at the fear of the loss of my pet and assured me that they would do everything possible to save her and I'm convinced that they have all of the expertise and committment to make this come true. Our cats are like family to us, and when they are sick, it makes things easier to know they are getting the best possible care and that everything that can be done for them is being done. Dr. Dena Nelson is the best thing that ever happened to our cats. She and her staff are efficient, expert, kind, and friendly. She has cared for our three cats since they were kittens 6 years ago and kept them healthy and fit. Before that she helped us nurse my previous cat through kidney failure, keeping him alive and comfortable for several months. When the time came to let him go, she and the staff completely understood how hard it was to lose him, and they made everything as easy as possible for him and for us. When our cat Butterfly came down with an intestinal infection and fever a couple of months ago, she stopped eating and drinking and after three days was so sick we thought we were going to lose her. Dr. Nelson and her staff gave her the closest attention and care and coached us in everything we needed to do to nurse her, including force-feeding (not fun, but not as bad as it sounds). Finally her fever came down and she started to recover, and after another week she was as bouncy as ever. All during that time, the staff checked with us almost every day on her progress and were there to answer questions and give advice. I have been taking my cats to Dr. Nelson since she originally opened All Cat Clinic about 10 years ago, and followed her to the new location. I originally had 4 cats and am now down to 2. I definitely like the fact that the practice is exclusively for cats- no running into dogs in the waiting room like at my old vet! And it's obvious that Dr. Nelson and her staff are all passionate about what they do. I feel that Dr. Nelson is extremely knowledgable and she always takes the time to explain things to me and make sure I understand the various options for treatment. I never feel rushed and I know I can always call if I have questions later on. When one of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes, the staff called every few days to check on him and make sure I wasn't having any problems giving his meds. My other cat was severely ill last year and required extensive care at home- force feeding and daily IVs for fluids. Dr. Nelson took the time to show me how to administer the treatments and made sure I was comfortable doing everything. She told me if I had any problems I could come back in for another lesson, and the staff called me regularly to follow up and see how things were going. We have been taking our cats to ALL CAT CLINIC PC for 10 years. Very first experience with our 12 yr old cat. Final diagnosis was throat cancer. We had her euthanized not long after at the clinic. The staff was outstanding! Dr. Nelson sure knows what she is doing. Our beloved cat passed quickly, peaceful and comfortable. We were treated with great respect during the whole ordeal! Not long after, we adopted 2 cats. Both had health problems. Dr. Nelson assured us these cats had "issues", but with time and care would become wonderful pets. She kept her word. Our "B's" are in excellent health. Whenever the need arises to have an office visit, they always accomodate our schedule. The staff is wonderful. Amy has been with Dr. Nelson since the clinic opened. They are a great team. Some new faces here and there who seem to be pleasant and caring. Used their boarding service a few times. Great care during the stay. I brought in some feral kittens that were treated with the utmost care and skill. I followed her to another clinic with more ferals and my indoor cats. Then - she "retired" to raise her children - Was I ever happy when she re-appeared with All Cat Clinic. "Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name -" that's All Cat Clinic. I call, they know my cats (and me) by name. No time wasted. Best guidance. Over the years, we've had hyperthyroidism, diabetes, kidney failure, wheat allergy, broken and dirty teeth-- and the salvation of a potential road-kill that got in during the golden hour. Dr. Nelson cared for one of my cats when she first worked in Springfield & I was very sorry to see her leave that clinic. The opportunity arose to choose a new vet & she & her clinic were my first choice. Dr. Nelson and the entire staff take excellant care of my "brood" as she calls them & I'm thrilled. Her "trial by fire" was operating on my Lily, the Princess, and she took great care of her. I like that Dr. Nelson enjoys her work & clients and seems to have a good rapport with her staff also. I've been going to Dr. Nelson since she opened her facility. I take my cats to her and my dogs to another vet. She is knowledgeable and if she does have questions, she has a good rapport with the U of I so she can call on them for advice. She and the staff know how to deal with kitties with bad attitudes - there is no cat they can't deal with. Dena consistently goes above and beyond. I mentioned I take my dogs to another vet. I had an issue with one of my dogs and her vet couldn't see her that day - long story short, Dena did the x-ray, made the diagnosis and sent me back to my dog vet for the meds the dog would need. All Cat Clinic maybe - but an occasional dog if the situation is urgent. :) When talking to people I mention my 'cat vet' and my 'dog vet'. this place is the only place in town to take your cat. some people complain about there pricing, but what is the health of your best friend worth; to me priceless. After the Sangamon vet on the north side did nothing to help my cat when he was literally on his death bed i was at my wits end. Just calling them and talking to the person on the phone about his issues and how they were going to figure them out i knew these people would help and would get answers. I am 100% sure that had i not gone here and tried to stick with original vet my cat would have died! not only did the figure out his problems they helped us to prevent them from coming back. I have been taking my cats to Dr. Nelson for over 10 years including boarding. My cats have always been treated well and I like the idea of taking them to a facility that focuses on cats. I have had to put two of my cats to sleep during those years and the staff and Dr. Nelson were compassionate and understanding. The most recent cat had renal failure. Dr. Nelson helped us maintain a treatment program for the last 14 months that was designed to ease the symptoms. While it may not have been the cheapest alternative it worked for my family and allowed us to enjoy the company of our beloved little buddy. We've been taking our cats to All Cat Clinic for ten years. There are several vets that are closer to our house, but it is worth the extra drive to visit ACC. My cats receive excellent care, and occasionally when we have come up against a serious problem, I have no doubts that Dr. Dena is the best there is. Her knowledge and compassion are unmatched. I have been taking all of my cats to Dr. Nelson for the last fifteen or so years. She is very good with the cats, extremely knowledgeable concerning their health and a very compassionate person. She sincerely cares about the cats she treats and has an excellent bedside manner with the owners. The other technicians who work at the clinic have always been very polite and helpful.
