Booking was easy - send an email detailing the work requested and they send a bid (granted, they've done work for us before so that speeds things up.) This week's projects incl. power washing our deck & driveway, a total low-pressure clean up of our composite roof, rinsing the gutters and cleaning the windows and skylights on both stories. Everything looks great! Rodrigo showed up (appropriately masked) promptly on both days, was friendly & thorough, worked safely and with care for our landscaping and did a great clean-up (shovels full of moss from the driveway power washing!) after the work was done. Home maintenance projects are definitely one of those things where you get what you pay for. Go with a cheap fly-by-night operation and you'll get what you pay for. Or go with a quality shop like Home Team and get the job done right.

The rental space needed a sink plumbed in, hot water heater and compliant drainage to meet a very aggressive timeline. Within hours of making our inquiry call, Mr. FIX, William Del Valle was on the scene, assessed the situation and came up with a solution to get our shop opened within days. We appreciated that he was responsive to our needs, even when they seemed perhaps a bit overly aggressive. We would recommend FIX without reservation. The rapid response, suggestions on how to solve our particular problem and quality of work saved us both time and money.

My first call was picked up by their admin, who asked details about what work I wanted to get done. She said to look out for their e-mail, which I received soon after. In the e-mail, I was informed of the standard charges for general handyman work ($185), per hour rates thereafter, cancellation fees etc. I was informed that they will be able to help me with the projects, and they might be able to fit me in as early as the following week. I needed to provide photos and notes so they could better judge project scope, the service location, credit card details, and complete billing information. I responded after three days with details and photos of the work needed, service and billing address and my credit card. Since then, I've been ghosted. Over a period of one week after I responded to their e-mail, none of my calls to them were answered, and no response to my follow-up e-mails or the voicemail I left them. I finally contacted a few other handymen in the area and one of them got the job done professionally.

The first thing Tom told me when he came over for the first day of work was: "How did you find…read morethese guys? They can't find new customers and all their existing customers aged out/died". We probably should have ran at this point. We had a quote from Johnson Brothers Construction to rebuild our shower that had a leaking drain. Their quote was very competitive ($10k + tax) and they seemed knowledgable enough, so we went with them, aware that things might go over the quoted amount given that every projects has unknown. We did have some unforeseen things happen, requiring an extra day of labor to strengthen the floor and some weirdness about the existing drain setup that was taken care of by a plumber in an hour. Yet, here we are, two months later with a total bill that is well over twice the quoted amount, a tiling job that is sub-par and a lot of finishing touches are still missing. When you hire a general contractor, you expect them to guarantee some level of quality and to advocate on your behalf with subcontractors. In our case, the tiling subcontractor not only did a horrible job, but also tried to increase the cost for some work we already sign-off on and way over ordered one of the types of tiles (that we had to pay for). In the end the subcontractor fixed as much as they could short of redoing the whole floor, but we were the one fighting for it and inspecting the work. JBC just stood by. JBC also had two subcontractor give us quote for some drywall for a transition strip. Their interfacing between these subcontractors is essentially a series of screenshots of iMessage conversations they have with those subs. I made it clear to the drywall sub that I wanted quotes for the different parts of the job. He gives us one opaque quote with possibly an extra $100 (??). The transition strip sub, what we hear is that he'll come by by the end of next week. Saturday comes and he is no where to be found. JBC gave no updates along the way. I could also talk about their opaque billing practices, how they're charging for labor hours that don't seem to line up with what I can see on my front door camera. Or how they have 3 guys show up for the same amount of time and yet one of them is charging for an extra half hour? Honestly I could go on and on. We definitely regret going with JBC for our job. I should have heeded my gut feeling when Tom said what he did. You definitely should.

We worked with J&M on a bathroom remodel. Bathroom is 5x6 feet and quote was for 6 weeks work and…read more50k. We ended project at 18 weeks and 60k. During our project, the sub-contractors damaged the wall while installing our toilet by drilling through the wall and failing to hook up the toilet correctly so that water was pouring straight into our basement. The sub-contractor did pay for these damages. We had no supply chain issues with our project as we had purchased all the materials ourselves before hand. Our primary issues with working with J&M was that due to the amount of projects they had going on, it felt that unless we were actively saying we were unhappy with progress and calling J&M frequently, there would only be work at our home 1 or 2 days a week. When asking for estimates for components J&M were unable to provide accurate estimates. For example, it was estimated that tiling our shower would take 1 week with 2 people due to the complex design. It ended up taking 3 weeks. This is our only bathroom, so we lived with my parents for several weeks, but I would hesitate to recommend J&M to anyone who doesn't have a flexible timeline. In addition, J&M failed to notify of us of change orders that resulted in an increase of price. These were supposed to be agreed upon mutually before the work was completed, but instead J&M released them after the work was done and were forced to eat the cost. J&M did not provide any options to mitigate this cost even though this was in direct breach of our contract. Ultimately, we are reasonably happy with the final outcome of our bathroom, but extremely unhappy with path to get there. We ended up not asking for several fixes as we were so fed up with the inaccurate timelines and constantly changing estimates. Fixes include 1) bleeding paint on ceiling, 2) missed paint spot, 3) grout on window and tile, 4) miss-cut vanity counter-top, and 5) dip in floor tiling causing one spot to not drain. All in all, J&M has good general contractors, but seem extremely mismanaged in the back of office. If you do work with them, double check all billing multiple times as we found several inaccuracies. Hold J&M to prices and push back on change order process.

I will admit some problems were due to my communication errors; and another challenge was I was not in the state when the project was going on unfortunately. So I appreciate their efforts to accommodate me when I requested pictures of the project progress. one error I made was a wrong paint color and I appreciate that they did not charge me extra for correcting my error. There were however, problems with returning my exterior fixtures back to the locations that they were before the project began (flag mount hose mounts, solar lights, circuit breaker box ground wire covers) I think my feedback for them for their future work, would be to take video or pictures pre and post and compare to make sure everything is cleaned up and returned as expected (so The customer doesn't have to bring it up to them). ​

They stepped on and broke my bushes which are permanently damaged. They broke my kitchen garden window and said it "it looked like it was broken on the inside" inferring that I had broken it. They had garbage thrown all over my yard the entire time and my front covered porch looked like a homeless camp with food left there and thrown on the door leaving grease stains . They also left a microwave there for months to heat their food. Not an experience I would want to relive. Ugh.
