It is very loud with everyone talking, so much that I have a hard time understanding the person talking next to me. The service is ok. As for the food. I didn't find the usual plate I take at other breakfast place which is 2 eggs, all meat (bacon, sausages, beans and ham) with either pancake or French toast. So I took the Petinos which is 2 eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, porc roast, potato and fruits (which include pickle) and toast. Egg are small, smaller than im used too. It was good, but I feel 22$ for that was too much. Other took what they call a mont blanc which is a waffle with toppings, 2 eggs and choice of 1 meat. They did like it. It's a good place if the menu have what you desire. Just a bit pricier side for a breakfast. Any substitution or change come at a cost.

I found the cuisine to be vibrant and healthful, with bright and energizing flavors that were well executed overall. The staff are knowledgable about the menu and dish conception, and generally pleasant and friendly to converse with. (Jacqual: B) - Simply presented drink that features hibiscus and citrus with zero proof beer, which I found fascinating. The beer notes are in the background prevailed by the sourness of the other components, where I wish there was a little more added sweetness. (Fried Maitake: A) - Perfectly seasoned dish with tender and high surface area mushrooms coated in an impressly crisp batter given the moisture usually found in mushrooms. The seasoning could not be better with the salt and spice combo; the chive and parsley mayo also add an herbaceous depth of flavor. (Heirloom Tomatoes: A) - Pefectly plated tomatoes with a surprising sunflower seed forward profile given the subtleness of the ingredient; the dish is well balanced and brings out the harmonious flavors of the garden, although I think the bites with flake salt had that even more perfect note. (Hanger Steak: A+) - Beautifully perfected cut of beef with Asian inspiration; the steak is juicily pink with a charred exterior; the carrot ginger puree has a lovely mild and lingering spice, with some additional spice coming from the shishito and the pickled jalapeno. Beautiful dish. (Peach Sorbet: C) - Flavorally pleasant dessert with peach three ways and a nut crumble to add crunch; the sorbet was very hard though and could have benefitted from spirits in the churning process. This place deserves a review and it deserves positive recognition. They are versatile in their offerings, and healthy but not overdoing it. The decor looks grunge and vintage and opulent, but those salads come out looking top class. The wait staff are empathic and attentive to a variety of needs. Nobody seems mad about working there. I would assume many were customers first and then realized that this would be a chill place to eat. With my progeny, I almost made the mistake of eating in the Old Port. I mean, maybe chocolate crepes for dinner would have been more consumed than the healthier cheese and chicken alternatives at Chez Jose, but the relaxing vibe, and wholesomeness of it all, made me so relieved that I didn't settle for a tourist trap. The bread, with butter, is really yummy. It's white bread basically but it's so good. And the orange soup was outstanding.

Although I'd say it's a pretty logical inclination that a restaurant that's never open, and empty when it IS open, probably won't have the most fresh food since the kitchen doesn't ever seem to be running.

The wine selection was Adequate and affordable. For desert they have a home made cheese cake that is out of this world. Then the most important and surprising thing that we have ever experienced happened. My friend had unknowingly lost her wallet between the car and the restaurant, and was unable to pay the bill. Although the bill was almost $125, once the manager was informed by the waiter, that this was a special outing for us, my lady friend was told to come back the following day to pay the bill. All of this was done very discreetly without me knowing as my friend did not want to spoil the evening by putting me on the spot and forcing me to pay the bill. A heart felt thanks to the waiter and the manager for showing such class and trust. PS we were from out of town and could have skipped out on the bill. This was small town service from the big city of Montreal. Thanks so much.
At lunch time this place can have a line 20 people deep!…read more And yet, it's just OK, maybe OK+. I think its brisk business is more a product of its location, in an area with a number of office workers but very limited options for quick, reasonably priced food. The fare is your basic 3 S's: Sandwiches, Salads and Soups. They also have a few other things, which tend to vary by the day. They only have two soups a day, but the one I did have was good. They have a decent variety of salads, which tend to be on the good side as well. Their sandwiches, though, are their weak spot. Pretty much everything here is pre-made and thus not customizable and just not fresh tasting. If you get a panini they take it out of the display case and warm it on the press for awhile, resulting in a kind of dry, lukewarm sandwich. Also, very nearly every sandwich comes with mayo on it... yuck! I had breakfast here once, and I did customize...I requested no mayo and it took 15 minutes for a basic breakfast sandwich. Their prices are pretty reasonable for this area, and they have soup & salad combos, or you can get two salads with your sandwich, generally for under $10. The service here is mostly friendly and helpful. Which is good, since they don't really have a lunch menu board, and the salads aren't labelled, so you may very well need to ask questions. There's a good amount of seating inside, and they have an area outdoors when the weather is nice. Which reminds me, this place is hidden inside an office building. Walk into the front door of 8000 Decarie, then look for the signs for La Prep. You can also get in through the parking lot behind the building.
