As a child growing up in West Seattle, one of favorite activities on weekends and summers was riding my bicycle along Alki. Now it's still fun driving along it, especially in the evenings and nights. Traffic is subdued and you can actually find parking in the evenings. Seattle skyline on clear nights is very picturesque and unique. Be forewarned...they rigidly enforce parking spaces and they will not hesitate to tow you if you're in a no parking and fire zones. read more

Everything Yelpers say is true. It is a must visit place for visitors and there is an observation area with a totompole just before the beach that has amazing views with curb side parking. The mini replica Statue of Liberty is a perfect addition for the Pacific Northwest. The breakwater with stairs is inviting and beautiful although the water is ice cold. Wait for a hot day to wade. Public bathrooms, free street parking, and shops and restaurants make this a wonderful outing for ages 0 to 100. read more

Alki beach is a pretty popular beach from what I am told. We came here at night and it was empty. We took a walk along the beach to get a view of the Seattle skyline at night and all lit up. It was also cool to see the locks on the fence from lost lovers. The location is set up near some pretty luxurious condos / houses as well. read more

Another place I've ventured many, many times, but somehow forgot to provide a review update (confirming the consistency of my opinion). Sorry, Yelp! And, Alki. And, all those who haven't figured out that you must go to Alki at least once. I mean, it's a PNW beach with a beachwalk, so if you don't like walking or cold beaches, it's probably not going to stir your pot very much. But, it's a cool area with a cool feel and some coffee shops and eateries along the way. And, free parking. And, a nice, long path you can take in one direction for quite awhile and perhaps catch some cool views of Seattle from the south, and walk back and get your coffee. You might even loop up into the neighborhoods and get caught in some of the hills and see some of the beautiful homes people own that you can look at. Bottom line: A good reason to get outdoors. read more

I came here with my parents after lunch to walk around on a weekday afternoon, and it was super pleasant! Being next to the water was really pretty and we could see the space needle. There weren't too many people although there were some, and it was just a pleasant place to walk around! Parking could be tough though. read more

As I spend more time at Alki, the more I love this location. The scenery is the most breathtaking in Seattle, but surprisingly, very few visitors to the city come out this way. Why is that? So I've been busy with other stuff of late - so restaurant dining - and hence - Yelp reviews have to take a back seat. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, Alki has many faces. Its most well-known and glamorous face is its sunny summer weekend afternoon look. People everywhere - beach volleyballers, bicyclists, surreys, runners and walkers. This year, for the first time, I saw people lighting sky lanterns on the beach, often several in rapid succession. Way cool. But Alki has different times that can be just as appealing - like cool calm foggy mornings or even blustery rainstorms. What JP & I pleasantly discovered this summer is that if you have an urge to jog, and it is dark (increasingly likely now that autumn is here), Alki is perfect for that. The paths are wide and well-lit by mercury vapor lamps that cast a bit of a magical spell with their sherbet orange tint. Another plus during the summer is that if you don't want to die from the heat while jogging, come to Alki - the temperature will always be 5 to 7 degrees cooler than in the rest of the city. Oh, a comment about the two paved paths on the west side of Alki. Yeah, I get that Seattle is bicycle-centric and that cars are supposed to share space with bikes. Paint markings (sharrows) on Alki Ave. indicate cars must share the space with bikes on Alki Blvd. Yet, in addition to the street privileges, bicycles get their own nice wide path. Pedestrians are shoved to a nasty narrow concrete sidewalk (a la Myrtle Edwards Park), which is problematic for joggers encountering walkers strolling abreast on the sidewalk. I think most people realize that this is a ridiculous configuration and joggers, skaters, and skateboarders use the wide path anyway. But be aware, from time to time, a high-minded bicyclist will yell at you to get the hell off the bike path. Is that what they call having your cake and eating it too? Lastly, don't forget that there are a slew of restaurants and bars on Alki that just might meet your fancy. read more

When it comes to beaches in Seattle, there is just a few that can compare favorably to the ones you would find in SoCal or Hawaii. Of those select few, Alki Beach Park is by far the best of the lot. If it weren't for the Space Needle in the distance and the realization that you really are in Washington state, Alki could pass as a seaside town beach you would find on the Pacific coast. There is plenty of things to do around Alki. There is a bike/walking scenic trail that leads to Alki Beach with a view of downtown Seattle and the aforementioned Space Needle. Across the street from the beach, you will find a nice grouping of eateries and coffee shops. On the actual beach, you can find volleyball courts and an art studio building. There is even a miniature Statue of Liberty statue at the park. But most importantly, real sand and plenty of it. That can't be said about most other beaches in Seattle. Alki is awesome in that there is just so much to do there while enjoying the sun whether it be sunbathing or rollerblading. It is a great place to spend time outdoors. Yes, it does get crowded especially during the weekends and when it is warm out. It was relatively sparse when I last visited it earlier in the morning though. The early bird really does get the worm here. If you are looking for a real beach in Seattle with plenty of sand, the only one I can recommend is Alki Beach. You have to visit Alki beach in West Seattle if you visit WA. It's the best location to see the cityscapes of beautiful Seattle. Alki is right across the water from downtown Seattle and Elliot bay. It stretches down for miles filled with beach sand and sun. There are restaurants and bars along the beach sides. My favorite places to grub at Alki are Pegasus pizza, Ivar's, little snack shacks and there's a bar that I like can't remember the name right now. If you're visiting from out of town, book a stay at one of the condos overlooking the water. It's just the best time ever. I love my city! Parking can be a biotch but hey, make it happen. Be patient and you'll find a spot. I always get lucky up the hills since no one wants to walk up and down hills to park. Score for me more room for me haha. Beach has tons of sand for the kiddos, volleyball, roller blading and bike riding or good old walking down the beach just relaxing with the best view. One of my favorite beaches in Seattle. I love Alki. I've been here many times and it's awesome every time. This is a fantastic location to go to get some sun, exercise, have a picnic, do some sports or just chill and people watch. There are some gigantic logs to set up next to for hanging out. There is a boat launch (hand carry only) and picnic tables. I would say swimming here is taking your life in your hands because it's COLD water and generally, the weather here only gets to 80 degrees in July-Labor Day weekend, if we're lucky. Alki has a stunning view of downtown which is especially appealing at night. This is a popular place to take pictures during popular sporting events (cough) due to the different lights used by the skyscrapers, Big Wheel, and Space Needle to celebrate the events. (The curfew is 11:30 pm for the beach and 11 pm for the parking lots. The police will stop by and use their loud speaker to tell everyone to hit the road.) You can't reserve a spot at this beach through the city, it's first come first served. This man made beach has volleyball nets and firepits. There's an art gallery at this beach. It's located inside what use to be a bathhouse (or is it still used as one?). I haven't been to the art gallery yet but it's on my to do list. If you are interested, they have some monuments to the beach such as a mini Statue of Liberty, an anchor that was part of an amusement park that was here 100 some odd years ago and a plaque honoring the first settlers in the area. There are various restaurants across the street. Some are fast food like fish 'n chips and burgers, others are chain sit down restaurants with pizza and pasta, and then there are much nicer places. Going here for a date or special occasion any time year round is pretty much a winner decision. Watch out for the peds. They will be on anything you can think of with wheels and will not pay much attention to the cars since you won't be going more than 10 mph down the road on a nice day. I've heard a rumor of there being a barrel next to a tree at the far west end of the beach that is full of books to borrow and read while chilling at the beach. I'm going to investigate and confirm if this is true. The only con is that the one lane going both directions on a nice day means that one will be sitting in their vehicle for quite a while as people rush to the beach. There are a couple parking locations along with street parking, all free, and they fill quickly. If you live nearby, forget the vehicle and bike/walk it to Alki. Some comment that the sand isn't clean. Well, it is sand that has been brought in and dumped by a dump truck on the concrete foundation the city made for the area, and people keep it relatively clean. I appreciate the fact they made a beach in the city for us to enjoy vs. dwelling on the negative. read more

Smallish park that allows you to have a beautiful view of Seattle skyline from the West side of Seattle. You can take your time to stroll along the beach, rollerblade along the beach park, sit and hang out on the small area of sand with friends and family or even go kayaking or diving in the Puget Sound water. The Alki Beach Park definitely offers you an opportunity to step out of the urban Seattle feel to a different and a more relaxing scene, where people seem to take life much slower than in the city center. I especially like that it's within 10-15 minute drive from the Seattle downtown (if traffic isn't bad or if there isn't an accident on the bridge to stop all the commute between downtown and West Seattle). The downsides of this park though, are that parking is relatively difficult to find as you get closer to the Alki Beach Park area (they are mostly street parking along the Alki Beach Park) and that the park is relatively small, so you won't have much to do if you don't enjoy being so close to the water (e.g. not really a wide area to walk or hike, but mostly just a straight line path to walk along the borders of the Puget Sound water and the main Alki Beach road). read more

It's not as crazy as it was last summer. Covid-19 has definitely slowed things down this year. Alki is still not the quiet beach. It's not the cleanest beach. I actually picked up a couple food wrappers a beer can and a bourbon bottle up from sand a tossed it in a garbage can. Even though it may have a rough spot or two Alki is still a Seattle gem. There's a great vibe here on sunny days. The view of the city to the East and the Olympic Mountains to the west. I moved here temporarily after a fire in my house in the CD. We were lucky enough to get an apartment directly across the street from the water with a nice deck and infinite view. We were only supposed to be here for 3 months while the house was fixed, but after a month we decided to sell the house and move here. There's nothing quite like waking up to see tugboats chugging out to sea, or to sit on the deck on a hot night feeling the cool breeze and hearing the waves lapping the shore. When my brother told me he was going to take us to the beach, I asked how far was the drive. I think my mouth hit the floor when he told me 15 minutes. A beach in Seattle? I couldn't believe it. While it won't compare to most beaches I have visited in my life, for the area and location and the actual amenities it had - I was seriously impressed! Long areas of white beach sand, plenty of kelp and tons of waves! There is even area that you can walk down and get to the water, if you don't want the sand in-between your toes. While we enjoyed the actual beach, the best part was my mom was able to relax and enjoy herself on the green grassy area under shade. Definitely a win-win for every one in party - with such a wide variety of options and things to do. read more

It is always nice going to the beach! Summer makes this part of the city very attarctive. Well, it is always attractive for anyone. You will always watch people walking on the pathway along the lake. It is very long so be prepared with good shoes. I tried flip flops on a summer and it was painful. There-s people on the beach playing volleyball, having a picnic, or looking for precious metals with their machines. Lots of people jogging or walking their dogs. Although they are not aloud on the beach. MMM You can stop by in the eateries along the path. There is a market some days of summer on the beach. Watch the Pirates! The best part is the view on any place you were. Take lots of pics of Seattle's skyline. Be patient to arrive now the Bridge getting here is closed. Lots of traffic but once you get on the boulevard, easy to fin a spot nowadays but when it gets back to normal, be super ectra patient. It gets very crowded. Some parking lots are reserved for those who have boats. Be aware of this so you don't get a ticket. read more

A beautiful view of the city! My Seattle friend took me here and we sat by the water enjoying the breeze and people watched: swimmers, paddlers, kayakers, etc. There were folks on their boats, the ferry, and cool jellyfish to look at. Nearby there were eateries and a beach area. There were also rental places for bikes, surreys (which is fun), and toys. Yes, even beach toys for the kiddies. The wide sidewalk will accomodate bikers and runners easily. Parking is tricky as the street parallel parking can be crowded, but there are def paid parking lots and ones that are free after a certain hr. read more

Gorgeous views... and one of the better beaches you'll find in the Seattle area. This and Golden Gardens are the top two choices for actual sandy beaches. There's a lot to do at Alki Beach though, it's almost like you're in a different city except for the views of the Seattle skyline. The waterfront condos and houses are simply to die for. I'll never be able to afford living in any of those so all I can do is drive over the West Seattle bridge and gawk at the amazingly perfect condos. I love the variety of shops and restaurants along the street - you can find coffee, pizza, ice cream, swimsuit shops, Thai food, pho, etc... pretty diverse restaurants! And I never have problem looking for street or neighborhood parking in the area. I also love seeing all the dogs, people and activities at the beach. Last time I went, I saw a mini photo shoot with a black lab who was all dressed up like a little boy scout, people walking on tightropes, half-naked six-pack packing men and women playing volleyball, kids building sandcastles, families barbecuing... it's like the ideal day out on the beach. Sand beaches are hard to come by in Seattle, and while Alki doesn't have a very much of that, it more than makes up for it with breathtaking views of Elliott Bay, downtown Seattle and the Olympic peninsula. Mt. Rainier is also visible from the Northeast side on clear days. Overhead, parkgoers and fellow AvGeeks can watch airplane after airplane make their final turn and descent into SeaTac and Boeing Field. Great place to take a stroll, or just sit and think while you watch the world pass you by. There are several decent restaurants and cafés all along the 2-3 mile stretch, and I've never had an issue with parking, though I usually only come on weekdays or ride my bike. Somewhat off the beaten path for Seattle visitors, Alki Beach Park is mostly frequented by locals and families. It is a true hidden gem, and I cannot help but smile every time I visit this lovely place. read more

White sand beach in Seattle on the Sound, yes, and arguably the best one too. Lot's of space, Fire pits, Volleyball, and much much more! Perfect day spot to enjoy the sun with many retail and restraunt options right across the street. Only cons are parking can be tough and they close pretty early in the night, so it's hard to really enjoy all those fire pits before the fire department comes and puts them all out. Good running and biking path that goes all the back to the West Seattle Bridge into downtown or Lincoln park if you head the other way. Definitely worth a visit at least once a summer if you don't live in West Seattle. Tip take the water taxi and shuttle over if you are coming from downtown. read more

This beach is just okay. I guess it doesn't help when I lived in Hawaii and seen some real beaches. They did have some good things about it but over all 3 stars is very fair. Great things about this beach: -It has a lot of cool little restaurant/cafes in the area. -They have a volleyball area which was fun. -The atmosphere was pretty laid back. No problems. Everyone was friendly. -The beginning part of the beach, OMG stop and take a picture. You can see downtown Seattle. Bad things about this beach: -Park is horrible. Good luck in finding a spot. -Men's restroom was small and very dirty :( -If you want to go in the water, good luck lol There is so much rocks. A lovely beach and park area with quite the 'boardwalk' feel to it; loads of local restaurants, bars, and shops on one side, and the water on the other. If you go far enough north along the beach, you'll come upon a stunning and beautiful view of the downtown Seattle skyline across the water! Perfect for selfies or Instagram photos if you're a millennial like me. Lol It's much cooler by the water than in the city; more so than I'd anticipated. I recommend bringing a light jacket just in case, especially during the Spring when the weather can be iffy. read more

The view is fantastic! Love watching the ferries and the photo opps are plenty. We even got the space needle over my son's left shoulder! We enjoy walking this beach, loving the coastline. I see why the homes and condos take advantage of the views. Pet friendly (on a leash) and clean areas. Parking could be a challenge but we came in a cool and windy afternoon and had premium parking right in front of the mini Statue of Liberty and restrooms. read more

We took water taxi from pier 50 to Alki beach. A great way to look back on the Seattle skyline. Nice area to walk around after taking the shuttle bus. The beach is small but breathtaking view. It's not very sandy close to the water, and it's covered in small rocks. So sandals or some other type of footwear is nice, but not required. This maybe the only place in Seattle where you will see the natives in bathing suits. The water is cold, but on a hot day, it can't be beat. So if you're not used to cold water this maybe a little cold for a swim. That said, this is a nice little retreat away from the city. It's a great spot for a 2.5 mile walk any time of year, and in the summer draws joggers, rollerbladers, volleyball players, beachcombers, sunbathers, bicyclists and strollers out to enjoy the sun. There are picnic tables, a bathhouse housing an art studio, and a restroom at the south (Alki Point) end of the beach, and there you'll find the monument to the arrival of the first white settlers on November 13, 1851.  The whole beach offers spectacular views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and the flotilla of ferries, sailboats, steamships and other craft that ply Puget Sound waters. Here you can see an obelisk commemorating the arrival on the Denny party, and a replica of the Statue of Liberty, meant to remind all that Alki was once known as New York -Alki. From this beach you can see a fair portion of Downtown, including the Space Needle. There are restaurants along the beach area, and the beach is well-suited for families, couples, singles---everyone. You can walk to Alki Point Lighthouse, or take a FREE shuttle up to West Seattle/Admiral District. There's bike and kayak rental and restaurants both casual and a little more upscale. You can rent 2, 4, or 6 people bike at Wheel Fun Rentals. Overall, a great place to unwind. read more

Great little beach area. There is a large sandy are and then a smaller part of the beach that is rocky. It can get busy on a nice day but people tend to spread out nicely. This area is only missing a good brewery and it could have some better food options in walking distance. We looked at reviews and chose to drive a ways from the beach for lunch. read more

Alki beach park has a lot going on. It's a beautiful place in summer during the day and at sunset. There is free street parking but it can be hard to find as it gets pretty busy. I love watching the Seattle skyline near the water taxi drop off next to Marination Mai Kai. Further along Alki Beach you will find a mini statue of liberty which is pretty cool. It's great to have bonfires along the beach while watching the sun goes down in summer. I like taking out of town visitors here for the view of the Seattle skyline, sunset and bonfires. read more

Alki is the place where I fell in love with my wife of 2-years, where I went for my class bonfire my senior year of high school, and where I continue to bring friends from out of town so they can enjoy it too. The view of downtown Seattle is only one aspect of what makes Alki so wonderful. You also get a view of Bainbridge Island further down the beach. There are tons of awesomeness restaurants like Salty's, Spuds, Pegasus, and the list goes on and on. There are bonfire pits and plenty of drift wood for seating. There is also beach volleyball in the summer. This is Seattle's only beach worth spending a whole day at IMO. read more
