I had a tooth issue that was concerning me and called the office this morning. Heather (front desk) checked my records and immediately put me at ease and had me come right in. Dr. Messina and her assistant gave me a thorough exam and fully explained everything they were going to do. I later learned that I was one of four patients that day to schedule an emergency visit that morning and it wasn't even 10:00 yet I never felt rushed. Dr. Messina is gentle, insightful and caring. I cannot say enough good about Dr. Luciana Petto Messina and the entire staff. Dr. Petto Messina is highly competent, compassionate, and considerate. And the high praise goes for the office manager, hygienists (especially Marie!), and dental assistants. If I could give Brittany 10000 stars I would. She was so calm with my daughter and flexible with making my daughter feel as comfortable as possible. She took her time introducing every piece of equipment to her and making it as fun and relaxing as possible for her. Medical record security has come into view. Recently Dr Bryan has jumped on the automated bandwagon with a ipad check in system. A system that neither he nor the company who he is working with can validate how they secure the data. When I questioned Dr. Bryan how this worked I was brushed off with a "This is how it goes" mentality. I have been in IT for 30 years at this stage in my career. I have many dealings with security and that of handheld devices. The likes of which CANNOT be secured because they are physically handed to someone. Since this dental practice dropped Blue Cross insurance, I had to leave them to look for another pediatric dentist and a orthodontist for my child. I am truly sad to leave this practice. The combination of attentive staff, skilled professionals, and a welcoming atmosphere made a truly pleasant dental appointment for my son throughout the years. I am fine if your policy is "no cleanings without X-rays" but we communicated over the phone before going as well as to the receptionist when we checked in that we were not doing x-rays. The receptionist said she would talk to the doctor and after making us wait 30 minutes finally brought us in. The doctor took a look and said they need x-rays so we aren't doing cleanings today. Sent us back to the receptionist and were charged $300. We communicated several times and should never have been brought in for an exam and charged with them knowing full well we only wanted a cleaning. Will be taking our business elsewhere.

In my case, my salivary glands became underachievers as a result of a medication I was prescribed. The number of cavities I got began to increase. But, as one of the hygienists put it, "it's our job to educate, not to judge." The hygienists were more than willing to teach how to protect my teeth. Swishing with water after eating; reducing sugar in the diet; showing me how to improve flossing and brushing techniques, and suggesting products (with coupons) that keep the mouth moist improved things nicely.
