I hadn't touched a piano for 20+ years and was asked to play for our church for when the pianist was gone. I was classically trained from 1st to 6th grade. I had to relearn by myself but really wanted to refresh and learn some things I didn't know before and get retaught. Our pastor at the time suggested Phil. Although we did zoom, and I know if it was in person it would have been a lot better, Phil made it work. He had top-notch experience with the technology since COVID made everyone go virtually. The lessons were phenomenal. My lessons were focused on gospel and church music but I learned things like octave-chord, relearning scales (I needed this desperately), playing by ear and my FAVORITE improvisation. I didn't think you can "learn" or "teach" improv but Phil did. He even stated that he wished he recorded our lesson. Although our lessons were limited (just the summer every week), I still utilize everything he has taught me. I am regularly playing the piano now for our church for 3 services a week.
