Such a fantastic local music store in Vacaville! I went there to pick up my son's Sax reed & while…read morethey don't have a ton of wind instruments like they do guitars , they quickly and helpfully provided the correct size for his reed. We went around the store and we're not bugged or hard sold. We were able to take a good look around and I found that refreshing. I ended up buying some replacement strings for my Ike and we were done in no time.

I would not recommend this place. I walked into the store because I was visiting and looking to…read morepurchase a Martin after selling another guitar to a buyer in the area. I heard they were independently owned and operated with a great Martin selection so I wanted to support them. When I walked in there were a few guys at the front counter area and didn't say "hi" or "Can I help you" or anything--I said "hello" with a smile and they pretty much just ignored me--fine, who cares, right? Anyways, I looked around and saw a few Martins I was potentially interested in, hanging up. There are no signs on the wall that said, "Please ask for assistance" or "Please do not play guitars without first consulting staff" or anything like that (and they also don't have locks on their guitar holders). Most guitar stores want you to play their guitars so I carefully grabbed a D18, and started playing it (finger picking it very quietly and treating the guitar with the utmost level of respect due to the fact that its new and it is expensive). Anyways, if you read the reviews below, it seems like the short bald guy (with a striking resemblance to Paul Giamatti) is a problem for a lot of people and scares their customers away. He did the same to me. We'll call him PG for short. PG comes up to me and says you can't just come in here and play guitars without asking--that's not how this store works. I told him I'd been browsing for quite some time and nobody came to help. Plus, I don't see any signs that you need to ask for assistance. He didn't even know what to say after that :) Really socially awkward individual who then says, "where are you from"? "Well are you looking to buy a Martin?". I said yes, "I wouldn't be in here right now playing one if I wasn't looking to purchase one". Anyways, by that time he was smart enough to realize that he just alienated a potential customer (and talked to me like I couldn't afford one), he then grabbed the other guy (I believe the owner) to hopefully smooth it over. At that point, I was really nice to the owner and actually liked him (probably would've bought something if he had originally dealt with me) but I just said "thank you, you've been really helpful but I'm going to think about it and maybe I'll drop by later" and walked out. There was no way I was going to drop $3k after a guy talks to you like there's no way you can afford that guitar. If I were PG and I saw someone playing the guitar, I probably just would've said I love that guitar; sounds great or something like that to strike up a conversation. Instead he comes off like a total jerk. They should keep the guy that looks like Paul Giamatti (with Napoleon complex) in the back office. He's a terrible salesman and rubs people the wrong way. If he's family I understand that maybe he needs to work there but he doesn't belong on the sales floor. They probably deal with a lot of riff raff and people that steal and depreciate their merchandise BUT he certainly isn't helping sell anything.

It's basically whatever the piano teacher decides on and although I'm sure they are all talented, there is no organization within the piano teacher. It costs too much to be this unorganized. The piano teacher herself even offered private lessons to come to our house rather than go through the school. Maybe others have had better experiences, but we ended up going to our old piano teacher who was much farther.

We started our 5 year old in lessons just after Christmas. She has a wonderful teacher, and she performed confidently at the recital in June at the Deville. Our daughter also loves the weekly theory classes that are included in the monthly price of tuition. She is always excited to go to class, and even to do theory homework! The price is a little higher than other local options but the quality of the teachers is exceptional. We would definitely recommend signing up for a trial session here. It's fun and inspirational for our daughter walking in and hearing someone singing opera upstairs, or a cellist or drummer having a lesson in the back. The one struggle we have experienced is that sometimes it takes a while to hear back from YACM via email, so I suggest calling between 10-2 on a week day if you have questions because someone will usually always answer the phone. Also, we do practice piano homework with our daughter every day at home, which at first seemed overwhelming because we have three kids 5 and under--however now it's just part of the bedtime routine, and she is starting to read and understand music. Something very cool to see. We will definitely enroll our other kids here when they are old enough.
