I also like their white sage, and palo santo for smudging. The selection of herbs for various baths are put together, organized, and budget friendly, because quality herbs can be expensive. The selection of candles, library of books, spiritual artifacts are impressive. At the counter there are more stones that had me feeling like a child at Christmas. A shiny aqua Vespa sat in the sunny parking lot. Once inside, it's floor to ceiling and every nook of space inside countless curios of treasure. Tiny apothecary bottles with 19th century medicinal "cure" labels; taxidermy specimens of all sizes; antique plates; shaving brushes; modern swords, shuriken, even a batarang; glassware smoking paraphranelia; and a delightful selection of canes. The second room contains a wondrous wooden dry bar with red velvet and iron barstools where the owners sometimes sit with friends. Swords and animal heads are mounted on the walls. The Jack Shainman Gallery is spacious and well lit. It consists of a hallway, a great room, and two…read moremini rooms. Admission is free so roam around and definitely do make the effort all the way to 10th Ave. It's so worth it. I don't think I've ever felt frightened at an art gallery before but at the Jack Shainman Gallery I did. I was the only one wandering through the gallery and I was face to face with the art of Bharti Kher. They say art can move you. Kher's art makes such a statement and is so powerful I was literally breathless at times and took brave steps towards her sculptures of an oversized whale heart, an almost life like elephant, and a wolf. Kher experiments with porportions with her tree, bindi art, and chair sculpture. At times I felt like I was Alice in Wonderland. Kher dares to push the envelope, open your eyes to another world, and connect through culture, soul, and imagery. This is her first exhibition at the Jack Shainman Gallery and it only runs through Dec. 22.
