Haircuts take around an hour, but coloring services can take over 3 hours and are hard to book. You can book haircuts kind of last minute but book coloring a month in advance if you can!

While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

I have been a client of Alfredo Ray Salon for over 20 years- always had short curly hair and felt it was easy to keep. My hairdresser for all these years has been Virginia and Alfredo my colorist. Virginia always suggested that I grow my hair and embrace the curl! Well I did and I ended up with a long 15 inch ponytail haha - I didn't go to the salon for a while trying to think what style I would eventually would get and it was easy to just put it up in a pony! I GOT LAZY!! HAHAH- When I went into the salon both Virginia and Alfredo said "Oh no you need to get that Rapunzel ponytail off " hahah as always they were right. They encouraged me to embrace my natural curly hair and Alfredo added highlights and I became another person. People i had known for a while didn't recognize me. I feel great and they are true professionals - who know their craft. They are very knowledgeable of their products and they give you history on it and know exactly what would work for you. Ever since I started going to Virginia at the Alfredo Ray Salon my hair is shiny and healthier than it has ever been in my entire 34 years of living. I'm inter-racial and I do not prefer my natural hair therefore I relax my hair. I hate having to use chemicals but the products Virgina recommended and uses on me are gentle and high quality. Virginia is a true professional with many years of experience with my kind of hair. The first time I ever sat in her chair I told her I could never grow my hair long,...she took on that challenge and now it's grown below my shoulders and I always get compliments that I have beautiful hair...wow! I was having major problems with my last hair colorist and hair stylist. They seemed not to understand how to do simple, natural looking highlights, and were very heavy-handed. A friend (who has beautiful hair) recommended Alfredo Ray Hair Salon. Alfredo is a true artist, and knows how to match skin color. He also uses products that do not damage or strip my already thinning hair. On my first visit, I could tell that I would be coming back to him, and ditching my last colorist. Gina was recommended as a stylist, and she is a true artist as well. She's a real perfectionist and I always get a great cut. If you are looking for a pretentious hair salon, this is not it. Alfredo and his staff are not pretentious in any way -- it was surprising to me how down to earth they are, and it took a bit of getting used to (very different from the cold smirks and rolling eyes I got from my last salon). I love this salon! I think Alfredo is a genius with hair color and I will tell anyone who will listen. He managed to match a portion of my hair that was bleached white to the rest on my head. People infer a lot based upon appearance and Merna's cuts were not reading as professional. My last cut by her had way too much going on - angled towards the front and also angled to one side, bad layers, odd bangs, etc. After laying out $150 with tip for a cut, I expect something that looks as expensive as the cuts were. Leave the Haircuttery-worthy experiments for the mannequin heads - not your clients' heads! Merna's daughter is lovely but some of the other assistants in the shop were rather rude. There was a young lady handling shampoos who was either Latina or Middle Eastern who wasn't always pleasant to deal with. I get that up and coming stylists often have it rough but being rough makes things worse (i.e., unemployment). Ladies, there are plenty of other hairstylists in NYC who will do a much better job on your hair for less money! Avoid this salon.

Had extensions done with a girl who talked about how great she was at extensions and charged me a ridiculous price for ones that ending up lasting months shorter than she claimed they would. So I went searching for someone to fix my hair, and came across Melissa. She took her time, was always available for any questions or suggestions, worked around my crazy schedule. Even at consultation, I didn't feel any sales pressure, and every time we've discussed my hair she's really listened to what I wanted. Ruben is a wonderful hair and makeup artist but is dishonest with pricing. He quoted me $120 for…read moremakeup and then insisted he said $175 (conveniently there are no price lists online or in the salon.) I didn't know what to do so I let him bully me into paying extra. He also insisted blowouts were $100 after quoting me $90 and charging me $90 several times - I had to pull up old receipts for him to honor the price he quoted me. I think his pricing changes based on his mood, which is unfortunate. I didn't dispute the charge bc it's the holidays and I'm guessing he needs the money - his studio was never busy when I was there and he always had an open schedule for appointments. But I learned my lesson the hard way so want to warn others.
