Men's shoe shine for leather shoes is $12, which was way cheaper than some other places we asked ($20 to $25). So my husband got his shoes shined and he was pretty happy with the results. That's when I decided to bring in my leather booties for a much needed cleaning. This was more expensive at $20, but it's understandable since there is more material and the leather was more like soft leather as opposed to shiny, if that makes sense. They were able to get most of the stains out, including a very large noticeable one right smack in the middle. I wouldn't say they look as good as new but at least with this cleaning, I can get another couple of years out of them. We also dropped off two men's shirts on a Friday and it was available by Monday afternoon. Only $2 each! Also cheaper than most other places. I think we have finally found our go-to dry cleaner in Hoboken!

We selected General Lumber after comparing several companies, trusting Robert--our main point of contact--who repeatedly assured us, "We're local and not going anywhere." That promise quickly unraveled. We hired them to order Marvin windows and manage installation for 17 windows across two units in our building. They were not the cheapest, but we chose them based on their claim of experience and quality. During installation, Robert and his contractor decided to alter the placement of the windows without understanding the original design intent or performing any verification. They admitted they "didn't understand" why our previous windows were placed where they were--but moved forward anyway. We trusted them as the supposed experts. That was a costly mistake. Shortly after installation, water began leaking into both units and the shared lobby during rainstorms. These areas had never experienced water intrusion in the five years prior to the install. We raised the issue immediately in September 2021. Robert visited once, performed a cursory visual inspection, and began a months-long pattern of excuse-making and blame-shifting. He variously blamed a "once-in-a-lifetime storm," the cornice, and our roof--none of which stood up to basic scrutiny or third-party inspections. Instead of acknowledging the problem or investigating further, Robert and General Lumber resorted to misinformation and deflection. At one point, they claimed water wasn't entering "through or around" their installation--ignoring the fact that they had changed the physical placement of the windows, which compromised drainage and blocked weep holes. Our own hose testing demonstrated conclusively that water was entering above the windows--exactly where they sealed over a critical drainage gap. General Lumber refused to take accountability, perform any real diagnostics, or even revisit the job site for follow-up testing. When we withheld the final payment due to unresolved issues, they threatened us with legal action and filed a lien against our property. We went to arbitration. My husband, with no legal training, meticulously presented our evidence. Robert and his legal team were unprepared. Their entire defense relied on vague references to extreme weather and unverified claims--while we provided photographic evidence, water test results, contractor correspondence, and expert confirmations. The arbitrator ruled in our favor. The outcome? We still have 12 faulty windows that will need to be completely redone at a cost of $12,000 or more--on top of the $28,000 we already paid General Lumber. Robert and his team never stood by their work, never offered a solution, and used legal threats to try and silence us. This has been a nightmare of wasted time, money, and stress. If you're considering General Lumber--especially if you're trusting Robert to stand by his word--proceed with caution. They talk a good game about being "local" and reputable. But when things go wrong, they disappear, deflect, and leave you to pick up the pieces.

I quite literally handed her commission to her on a silver platter, as I had already found & toured the condo I was purchasing- the only thing she did for me was sit on a stool while the home inspection was being done. When it came to closing day, so many things went wrong due to her lack of experience & communication. As a first time home buyer, I was not aware that there should have been a final walk through before signing the closing documents & Jaclyn did not schedule one for me. Jaclyn, nor any other representative from the agency, was not present at my closing to hand over the keys, nor were there any arrangements for receiving my keys after closing. She "had the closing dates mixed up on her calendar" but when she realized two days prior, didn't attempt to reschedule her other obligations, contact me to let me know, or arrange for another associate to assist me. When I expressed my frustration with this afterwards, Jaclyn offered to send a contractor to repair & paint holes left in my home from the sellers. I truly believe Jaclyn and Kevin, of Barry's Renovations in Hoboken, are a match made in heaven. Kevin has rescheduled finishing the job he started more than 3 times, always at the last minute, never proactively reaching out to me to explain his numerous "emergencies" that caused him to ignore the completion of my repairs. The project is still incomplete, and Jaclyn's attempt at righting her wrongs during my closing processes have made my opinions of her & the Jill Biggs Group incredibly unfavorable. Jaclyn's repeated failures during the closing process, combined with the subsequent mismanagement of the repair work have left me with an extremely unfavorable opinion of both the Jill Biggs Group and Barry's Renovations. I strongly advise others to look elsewhere for their real estate and contracting needs.
