The staff at Alfa Surgery Center took very great care of my Momma before, during and after her endoscopy. I really appreciate the attention to detail and the communication on her blood pressure medication. The staff at the desk was also very nice too which eased the worry about my Mom. My only complaint is the parking lot. For the amount of patients and the family member or friend or caregiver that have to be there with each patient to drive them home, there is not enough parking spots. The parking lot is very small so even if you are there to just drop off or pick up, it's still too tight to turn around to get out the parking lot. read more

This place scheduled us for a morning procedure. THEY scheduled US. Not the other way around. We arrived early for our 10:40 am appointment. My wife did not get seen until after 1 pm. We sat in their loud and crowded waiting room for two hours past the time they scheduled us to be there for the procedure. And the pièce de résistance of the whole ordeal is that when my wife finally got taken back for her procedure, the doctor she was supposed to see was no longer there. Becuase their time there was up. Becuase apperantly doctors don't work past noon. She got a different doctor who had no familarity with her medical history and a pile of waivers to sign for it. This place is a hot pile of garbage. I wouldn't give this place and its staff the time of day. The next time insurance tries to stick us with this building of incompetent time wasters we're demanding a different provider. Alfa Surgery Center owes us penelty fees for 3 hours of our time due to their own incompetence and incapability. read more

Went in for a colonoscopy although all the nurses were nice the guy setting up the machine was rude when I asked him to close the curtain he had swung open. The doctor never talked to me and started the procedure before the sedation kicked in, I kept saying ow but they just kept going. After the procedure they gave me no time to recover. I was still out of it when they told me to get dressed and put me in a wheel chair. No one ever asked how I was doing or told me anything about the out come. I felt very rushed and not at all taken care of. I heard the receptionist making call because the doctor was running behind. read more

The entire team was incredibly professional, attentive, and careful, making sure she felt safe and comfortable every step of the way. What stood out the most was how considerate everyone was, they didn't just do their jobs, they truly cared. They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all of our questions without hesitation, and constantly checked in to make sure my mom was okay. That level of attentiveness means everything when your loved one is undergoing a procedure. We are beyond grateful for the outstanding care my mom received. My mom had a colonoscopy at Alfa Surgery Center and they treated her like a cow. They barely acknowledged her or went over the procedure with her. She felt like she walked in there and the moment she woke up she was wheeled right out of there. She was not aware that she would become unconscious throughout the procedure because they also lacked to mention that. When she woke up from the procedure, she felt weak and not fully recovered but they didn't even ask how she felt. They wheeled her out without any care for her recovery process. When she arrived to her house, her blood pressure was low and she felt weak throughout the day. I would Not recommend this place, they do not know how to treat their patients. read more

Linda in reception: highly unprofessional. When making outbound calls to remind patients of their appointments, when asking patients if they had any questions, or when receiving incoming calls, Linda would roll her eyes and slam her fist on the desk as she annoyingly "clarified" concerns. I'm sorry, WHAT?! This is exactly why I go with my parents to all appointments. Some people do not belong in healthcare nor customer service. Linda's comments after each call were highly inappropriate. If Linda is burnt out or annoyed she's in a customer service role, answering the same questions "over and over", then please have someone else provide true customer service. It doesn't matter if it's a patient repeating a procedure, or especially those having a GI procedure for the first time, THE INSTRUCTIONS CAN BE OVERWHELMING. Witnessing this kind of ruthless behavior, with Linda behind a CLEAR and OPEN panel for all the lobby to hear, is beyond disgusting. Multiple times Linda tried to continue her inappropriate comments with the lady working next to her; unlike Linda, that lady remained professional and did not continue the conversation. I did not get the name of the second rep, but I did witness her interactions with every patient checking in. She was wonderful. The prep packet picked up from the Alfa office on 3rd street was of horrible print quality. Multiple pages, especially the diet modification list, was barely visible. I understand why people call, I ALSO CALLED, and now I see the kind of service I received while being on the other side of the call. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR PATIENT POPULATION. Multiple times Linda directly vocalized how "annoyed" she was, then she stormed off saying "I'm done, I'm so pissed off, I'm due for a break anyways". How I WISH I could post audio from her patient interactions, due to HIPAA, patients of this office will just need to wait to hear Linda in person. YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY KNOW WHO SHE IS. Maybe one day Linda will handle patient interactions as well as she talked about "we should plan a potluck" or about her show on Netflix. Everyone else, the MA's, RN's, Dr's, ancillary staff - YOU WERE ALL WONDERFUL. Very clean and nice office. read more

Waiting time was 4 hours for a 5 mins Endoscopy procedure. Which should have been total of 45 Minutes including the observation & recovery time as they've told us. Good staff & care facility but please think about other people's job too. I went with my mom & took 1.5 hours off from work but you made us spend half the day there. read more

I was really concerned with the one Yelp review about how a patient was screaming for them to stop and they didn't stop. I was reassured with the super friendly staff, doctors and nurses. They all took the time to address my concerns and the doctor said that at anytime I didn't feel comfortable for any reason they would stop and reschedule under full anesthesia. Up until the moment I was sedated they talked to me and didn't proceed with any part of the procedure until I said I was comfortable and agreed to the plan. The procedure went without a hitch, I was comfortable the entire time and went home without incident. Trust me when I say the bowel prep is by far the worst of the entire process... and even that was not all that bad. I had a very positive experience my procedure went smoothly. They called me the day of and there was a cancellation before my appointment so I was able to go in early. I didn't even check on yelp but now that I have, I'm so surprised to read negative comments. certainly nothing on my experience would indicate anything less than five stars. Parking was easy, staff very courteous and friendly, this is the kind of place where you don't really want to go by choice but prescribed by your doctor. alI was very very pleased. I got a follow up phone call from them the next day which is also a good sign that they're concerned about their patients so if you're a Kaiser member and you get subcontracted here don't worry, I say. This review is for the billing team only. I have no complaints about the service due to the whole team is good. I received a bill from Alfa and a phone call stating Kaiser saying it is a copay amount. I checked my billing on the Kaiser bill and also called Kaiser and was confirmed the service I receive from Alpha is fully covered with no copay. I also requested Kaiser follow up and inform Alfa. Later I received another bill and phone call from Alpha, I informed them I checked with Kaiser and was confirmed I have no copay for this service. I asked them to contact Kaiser. Then surprisingly I received a letter from the debt collector. They wrongly sent my name to the debt collector regardless I already told them I was confirmed the service was fully covered. read more

Kaiser sent me here for a colonoscopy. They had 8 patients for 1 nurse. They had 1 surgical room and no back up ambulance to rush you to a hospital in case of complications. It was dirty. They didn't even change the sheets on the surgical bed between patients. They did a surgery every 15 minutes. My husband said it was like a drive thru parking lot watching patients come out--groggy--half dressed. With me they refused to even give me a glass of water before wheeling me out. I hadn't eaten or had liquids in 2 days. One glass of water was all I asked for. Nope--that would slow down the 15 minutes/person surgeries. What a MILL. And on the front door it said you couldn't come in unless you had a surgery scheduled. But instead food delivery people from all over Chula Vista and Ntl. City were running in and out, unmasked, no problem. The sign must have just been for inspectors. Even some of the nurses in the surgical room had masks over their mouths but not noses. It was a very dangerous place to have a surgical procedure. May the State make a few unannounced visits there. And maybe Kaiser could check out the dives they are sending their patients too with a secret visit as well. read more

I was taken in @ about 11:40 was given a surgery robe to wear over my clothes. I got a bed @around 1:00pm , my I V was put on @1:30 @ 1:47 I go in to the bathroom @ 2:00 I get taken in to the surgery room, I immediately get connected, I get the sedation injection and as soon as the nurse pulls the needle? Dr. Alayo starts incerting the tubes down my throat, I kept on trying to stop them since I was feeling everything. Instead of them stopping and giving me more anesthesia? A nurse grabbed my shoulders holding me down, another one grabbed my face while the doctor shoved 3 tubes down my throat. It was a very traumatic experience and not only that? But they did a few biopsies on me but it doesn't end there my friend was called @2;05 saying I was ready to be picked up? How was I ready if I was in the surgery room @that time??? Also I got to see everyone else was let rest about 20 minutes after getting out of the surgery room and I wasn't. I was immediately disconnected and taken out to the car. A nurse told my Friend to tell me not to have the colonoscopy done there because I have had a traumatic experience. How did that nurse know if she wasn't in the surgery room with me? Then the next day I get a call asking how I was feeling? And I told the lady everything to what she say.. if you want I can have the nurse call you?? Why the fuck would I want her to call me???? I said I want to file a complaint, and the lady responded, I will pass this on to the Director, most likely she will be the one giving you a call. We'll guess what???? It's November 20th and no call yet. Please Do NOT GO THERE!!!! I was only able to eat jello for a whole week from how hurt and swollen my throat was, it still hurts a bit and when I yawn? My chest hurts and this started after that Endoscopy. read more

I arrived for a colonoscopy about 8 AM. Just before I was wheeled into the surgical room, I told the woman who was working with me that I did not want a heavy anesthesia. I just wanted to be relaxed. When I became conscious six hours later, I was furious! They gave me a medication which erases my memory. I do not remember being put in the car that my sister picked me up in. She needed assistance to get me in the car. I live in a retirement community and she had to go to the clinic to get a wheelchair and help from a nurse to wheel me to my cottage. I never should have been released before I came out of the effects of the medication! I would never allow any member of my family to go into this place to have medical procedures performed. read more

Ever since I got referred here for my first endoscopy, I was so impressed with the great customer service that I've come back for all my other G.I. needs. Dr. Alayo takes great care of his patients. The office staff is very helpful, reminders about appointments with great directions pre-procedure and post procedure. Even took the time to call a specialty pharmacy to make sure my prescriptions were filled at a minimal cost. After every procedure I got great notes from the office with pictures of things that were done. I've had an endoscopy, colonoscopy and even had a balloon put in my stomach lose some weight. And recently I was diagnosed with H. pylori, which again they had to call the The specialty pharmacy get my medication approved and had it delivered to my house. I highly highly recommend Dr. Alayo for any of your G.I. needs. read more

5 star experience! I had a colonoscopy procedure at Alfa in Sept 2023. In the past, at Kaiser, I had an incident of waking up during a procedure while under conscious sedation...something I dreaded happening again. I was particularly concerned with one Yelp review about how a patient at Alfa was screaming to stop and they didn't stop. All the staff I spoke with ahead of time and on the day of the surgery listened to my concerns, answered all questions and both took my concerns seriously and offered alternatives. I was reassured by staff and the doctor that at anytime I didn't feel comfortable for any reason they would stop and reschedule under full anesthesia. Day of surgery I was treated respectfully and felt confident that they would do everything to keep me sedated SAFELY and that if they couldn't they would stop. I am disappointed, and disgusted. I went to this location for a colonoscopy. on May 29, 2024. Kaiser is my provider and I assume due to the high demand for this procedure they doled my procedure out to Alfa Surgery Center in Chula Vista. I hesitated to accept this, but in the end I accepted. While I was on the table during the beginning of the procedure the nurse asked me to confirm my name and date of birth. I was then asked to turn on my left and put my right leg over my left leg. The doctor then shoved a tool up my rectum. Oh my goodness! I shouted OUCH before I could catch myself. My goodness that was so uncomfortable and awkward. I don't recall any other part of the procedure. I recall reading that this was not going to be a painful procedure. I would be sedated, but only lightly and I would still be awake, just not aware, nor would I remember the procedure. Well, I certainly remember that discomfort. Geesh! How does someone with so much experience get something like the timing of the sedative wrong? The more I think about it the more I suspect it was careless, and intentional. I just can't see why the doctor would do such a thing. I absolutely dislike what occurred. It has soured me completely on this doctor, and the Alfa Surgery Center. Never! I will absolutely never go there again, nor accept the services of that doctor again. I'm so disappointed, annoyed, and disgusted. That was just plain wrong! read more

My daughter had an extremely painful experience. She was crying the whole time and all they were telling her was to breathe. They should've stopped the procedure until they gave her more medicine and made her more comfortable. NEVER go to this place. I will be reporting them to our main provider. read more

I just recently had an Orbera balloon placed and removed at this center by Dr. Alayo. The nurses there were all amazing and made me feel very comfortable. The anesthesiologist was very good as well. I went to Alfa Surgery Center for a colonoscopy. I was prepped and wheeled back in to the procedure room at about 2:15pm. I was sedated , procedure was done, then by 2:55pm, I was being woken up by the staff to tell me I was ready to go. They told me briefly that I had a polyp removed and handed me a sheet of paper with instructions for the remainder of the day. As I'm still walking up from the sedation, the girl told me she would help me get dressed. Mind you I just got out of the procedure room and they didn't give me any down time to just rest for a few minutes and rushed me to get dressed, they had a wheel chair ready for me and then just wheeled me outside where my husband was waiting for me. Didn't ask me how I was feeling or anything. I was in and out within 45 minutes of being brought back for the procedure. I have never been so rushed before at any other colonoscopy and have been at other facilities for at least a few hours from beginning to end. I have always been offered a glass of water and crackers after my other colonoscopies. They don't care about you at this facility and I definitely wouldn't recommend going here. I was sent here through Kaiser as they work with third party facilities for procedures like these. I will never go back to and will only go to Kaiser facilities so I can be treated like a patient. I had a procedure done at this facility and I just wanted to say how amazing everyone is that works here. They are professional and thorough, but more important they are kind, and nice and so helpful. Having any procedure can be stressful, but everyone made it so much easier and made me feel like I was in very capable hands, and made me feel like I was a person and not a number.
