It has a fab path all the way around for an easy walk in the sun or there are plenty of little paths into the woods surrounding if you're feeling a little more adventurous. With loads of green space on all sides, even on the busiest days this park, Drumpelier can accommodate every need. Whether that be a picnic, a five-a-side game or even fishing, you won't feel anything but relaxed here. If you haven't packed a lunch there's a little cafe in the main building which unfortunately I've never tried. I just love a picnic!!! It also has a great play park at the far end of the car park, suitable for all ages. This area can get a touch busy on the sunnier days but I've never been and felt like we've waited long for my little one to have a go on the swings or in the sandpit. It's really dog friendly here too. I've found myself losing an afternoon on a trip with my hair baby just chatting to other dog owners on the way round. If you're finding yourself looking for somewhere to while away a sunny day then get in the car and head here. Don't forget the picnic basket!

A hidden gem which your Julia Donaldson loving little ones will love to visit!…read moreWe call this Gruffalo Wood because of the Gruffalo-themed carvings dotted near the entrance of the Loch. The Loch itself is fairly small, taking only 15-20 mins to walk around. There is lots of nature and wildlife to explore here from toadstools to frogs to wild raspberries to dragonflies... We met a particularly large, and bold, swan today whilst feeding the ducks! On our last visit we stumbled across hundreds and hundreds of baby frogs migrating across the pathway to the Loch. This has become a regular location for us to visit with our little Julia Donaldson fan. There is a play park at the far end of the Loch from the little car park off Kilmardinny Avenue and if you need something to eat or liquid refreshments after your walk there is a recently opened Waitrose with a lovely cafe minutes away by car or foot!

We really enjoyed walking round the loch in the sunshine, the path is pretty easy going for littles and the pram alike, and there are a few places to stop along the way and see the ducks or discover the awesome carvings. We couldn't find the play park, perhaps a little sign would help, but we asked someone and soon found the little path leading up to it. There were some different play areas to explore including an awesome rope swing that the adults enjoyed too! We had a great, free day out and it worked well to tire out the kids. Would highly recommend.

Hogganfield Loch is situated on the outskirts of Stepps…read more There is a parking area at the entrance for those arriving by foot, with a food van resident in the car park when looking for refreshments or ice creams on hot Summer days. There are two little play park areas to keep little ones interested, and plenty of wildlife to take in. The swans, geese and ducks all congregate on the car park side of the Loch (along with pigeons and seagulls!!) hungry for food from passers by. It can be a bit like a scene from the birds, however, with this hungry gang of birds all vying for the crumbs of bread and scraps. So, I tend to find a quieter spot on the Loch, away from the car park if we want to feed the birds - much more civilised! ;) There is a path all the way round the Loch for walkers, runners, cyclists... The whole Loch takes maybe 20-30 minutes to get round, depending on your walking speed and size of walking companions (longer with 2-3 year olds!) Hogganfield Loch is a nice wee spot if looking for a relatively quick, but refreshing, walk not too far from the city centre!

This is not an area of town that I am normally in, but I've wanted to visit this wee park for some…read moretime as it's one of only two or three places in the city that the ancient and sacred Molendinar Burn is visible on the surface between its source in Hogganfield Loch and the point where it discharges into the Clyde (for most of its journey it is contained in a culvert underground). Here at least the 'Molly' is visibly celebrated and acknowledged. This is the last place you can see it until it re-emerges for a short section south of Duke Street, next to what used to the the Great Eastern Hotel. The roots of Glasgow are founded on the Molendinar. Although its status now is little better than a glorified sewer, once it was a small river that flowed around the foot of the ancient hillfort of Dun Chattan (now the Necropolis), along the route of what is now Wishart Street. This is where St. Kentigern set up his church, and where Glasgow was born. When the Cathedral was built the Molendinar was dammed upstream of the 'Bridge of Sighs', where a large pool enabled barges bringing the Bishops of Glasgow down from their residences to dock, and a mill-leet used the run-off water to power a grain mill at the top of Ladywell Street. This wee park was built with some Millennium cash and does its best to brighten up an otherwise neglected corner of the area. The burn emerges from the hillside and cascades down a small waterfall into the park, where a landscaped zig-zag channel, made to look more natural by the addition of several boulders, carries it through the park and under a couple of bridges before it disappears once more into a grating. The park also has a small play area containing a couple of desultory-looking swings that look as though they were added just so that it could be called a park, some other random megalithic boulders scattered around, and some strange painted concrete forms whose purpose completely eluded me. It seems somehow half-finished. The landscaping around the Molendinar would be quite attractive if it was better maintained, but the entire channel is very overgrown and littered with empty cans, bottles, odd shoes and other general rubbish. No shopping trolley (yet), but there was a child's scooter. It really needs a community 'Friends of the Park' group to take it on board and give it a good clean-up once in a while.

Tollcross park is a fantastic urban park encompassing a huge area including a small plant house,…read morerose garden, wooded area, playing fields and open grassy areas. Bordered by housing, including some fairly bogging flats, it's not somewhere I'd be keen to go at night but I have had many enjoyable walks with the family and the dog ('poo bins' are available) of a weekend morning. It's always clean and tidy and is maintained to a good standard by the local land services who are based nearby. Also included in the grounds is an city farm type animal place for the kids which always looked interesting as we walked past from the convenient parking at the leisure centre that adjoins the park.

So we decided to TC park a quick try. When we parked I was surprised how big it was, conscious it was about to get very dark very quick we choose a path that we knew we could loop back on but from the map it looked like you could take all sorts of natural walks. There is an animal farm for kids and some sheep! This not so little park is brilliant and ideal for dog walking. What I did like was that parts of it was lit! So rare to find lights in a park. Ideal for winter nights!

Deep into the South Side, Linn Park is absolutely enormous and due to it being used mainly by…read morelocals in what is one of the city's leafier suburbs, a somewhat tranquil location to spend time. Facilities wise, there's a couple of adventure playgrounds, a large equestrian centre, and a golf course, which in all honesty isn't very much for a park of this size, but it's main attraction is the woodland walks. There are large chunks of forest in the park, waterfalls and a good few picturesque little bridges over the river, so it's a very relaxing and peaceful place for a stroll. We got caught in a thunderstorm on our last visit here which is probably a negative but it did provide a bit of excitement. There's also an old mansion in the park which was derelict and thus wonderfully spooky until recently, but it's since been done up and turned into admittedly impressive houses. The Snuff Mill Bridge walkway just at the edge of the park is in my opinion one of the nicest spots in Glasgow. Hardly anyone has heard of it yet I was quite taken aback when I first stumbled upon it. On a nice day it can genuinely feel like you're in a quaint little English village, there's even old Victorian-style street lighting.

I tend to make the pilgrimage during the summer- when I can find someone with a car to carry the picnic stuff- and sit out in the open field for a lovely, restful afternoon. The lack of facilities is what has made it so peaceful- the golf course, I am glad to say, is under-nourished.

I liked one lioness/panther sculpture in particular that had been presented by a John S. Kennedy, not sure what the S stands for. The paths could be confusing on first attempt, though I found I could consult my phone to help me find which path to take. A number of critters were out in the greenery the few times I walked through in July 2019. The hotel where I was staying had a small parking lot that was first-come first-serve, so I did most of my exploring on foot. Kelvingrove Park was one option if I wanted to take in the nature of Glasgow and did not want to walk along the street.

A perfect park to take kids to! Not only is the circular…read morelandscaping of the park user-friendly but also very pleasing to the eye. There's two circles to it - an inner and an outer. The outer is a hilly grass area with benches, and the inner is a well-equipped and fenced in large kids playground - such a set-up is perfect for adults to sit back and watch the kids whilst allowing them the independence to run around freely. And because of the fencing, the worry of them running off too far is eliminated. Another bonus is that it's never as busy as the Kelvingrove or Botanics. The grassy area is also perfect to let dogs have a nice sniff around - though probably only suitable for smaller dogs. All in all, it's a perfect escape from the city buzz on Byres Road, and a great way to entertain the wee-uns.

This is my local park, although I confess that I don't visit it that often. But it's a nice place…read moreon a sunny day and it has a great swings area that is very child-safe. Since the old pavilion was converted into a nursery there's always a lot of child activity in the park, so consequently it is very popular with parents who have small children. It's a bit too close to Highburgh Road to be very peaceful, but it's a nice place to sit and get some sun in the summer months.

Well this we gem of an area is ideal for a sprawl in the midday Glasgow summer. Located in the middle of what once was Garnet Hill Village, this nicely landscaped wee patch of green is pretty damn cool. Opened in the early 90's this has been the summer haunt for office workers, families, art students and wino's alike. With a cool waterfall feature running its Length, a two tired layout and a plenty of areas to plonk your arse down and people watch, this is a welcome oasis for all whose feet no longer which to feel the un forgiving feel of concrete beneath there feet...if only for a few minutes. Ok, like most parks its the kind of place that you give the well known body swerve after night fall and you'll even have to do the old "i'm reading please don't bother me" manoeuvre once in a while to avoid the occasional bam, but hey, that's part of living in Glasgow. So yeah, its pretty cool. Plus there's a wee paper shop round the corner so you can get your ice cream fix too while relaxing with a book, magazine, leaflet, pamphlet, crisp bag, bus ticket or anything else that has writing on it.

I've worked in Cowcaddens for way more years than I care to mention, but have never visited here…read morebefore. It's a really small split level park - but is a total oasis of quiet and calm in the middle of the city. The ideal place to go and have lunch and de-stress :) And it has a wee tower for you to get a better view of the city.
