We took in 8 cushions to have new foam placed in them on August 2nd. We choose the density we wanted and we're told to bring in 2 cushions to use for a pattern and they would cut them and verify they fit and they would have all 8 cushions ready by August 5th. I did not hear from them so called on Monday August 8th and was told they would have them ready by Thursday August 11th. We did not hear from them so on August 12th we explained this was our only seating source and we needed them. We were told we could pick them up at 10:30 am but that did not happen. It was only after our persistent insistence that we received them that evening by 5:45. Beware! If they tell you a specific time and date it probably won't happen. We showed up on 2 occasions as they said they would be there and they were not! Not a way to do business or have repeat customers. Have a Lazy Boy sofa. Foam in cushions got worn out. Went to Lazy Boy & tried th buy replacement foam. They do not sell replacement foam. Was told to buy a new sofa. Went all over town trying to find a furniture company that would cut new foam. No one does it but Alexander's. Just call before going as the main business is in El CaJon. Very nice owner. Reasonable price. Love my cuhions!!! read more

Had my couch pillows reupholstered with them and they turned out fabulous!! I love the quality of the work they did!!

After shopping in vain for a new couch that would fit my small living room, I decided to get my old one re-upholstered. A salesperson at the Pottery Barn recommended Resurrection Upholstery in El Cajón. I drove there and talked to owner Carlos, who was super nice and helpful. For more fabric swatches, he told me to try Alexander's Upholstering. There Diana let me take home two huge tote bags full of samples to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. It took me forever to decide, but she let me take all the time I needed. When my reupholstered couch was delivered (no charge for pickup or delivery), I was amazed. I never dreamed it would be so gorgeous! The quality of the workmanship is absolutely outstanding -- far superior to any of the couches I had looked at in the stores, and the cost was nearly the same. They even took out the old sofa-bed mechanism I no longer wanted for no extra charge. I also want to say that working with Carlos, Lydia and Diana was always a pleasure. They are really nice, good people; they did everything and more to make me happy. The entire process was nothing but positive. I am so glad I found them! Very disappointed. Main issues are not being committed to finishing/delivering, and more importantly the workmanship. Competitive price and I guess the old adage is true with what you get. They did quote up to three and half weeks, but after the second week I started calling since I heard zero from them. I finally got them on the phone only to get that she "has to call the upholsterer" and check status and will get back to me. After two follow up calls towards the end of the day she finally calls back and says well might be Wednesday but could be Friday. In no uncertain terms I told her their company's inability to commit to their customers is a problem--mostly because she didn't think it was. She thought it was just fine to never let you know the work was done until the day of, and that it could be whenever. Extremely frustrating. The furniture was finally ready and because of all the waffling around, said she would comp the delivery cost. Appreciated, but whatev, I was 5 minutes away and could have picked up so minor convenience. When they finally delivered the piping (or whatever its called) around the edge of the cushion that I explicitly ordered was missing. So they had to take it back and add it. Another two days later they delivered them again, and now the centering of the seat was off on two of the chairs and sloppily put together. See pics. She said she would take it back--yet again--to fix and I declined. They missed the piping the first go around, did a crappy job the second go around, so absolutely no reason to think they all of the sudden would do a good job the third time around, so I passed. I'm so happy I found this place! It's a smaller shop just a couple blocks from me I've noticed for years, but wondered how these un - marketed little shops survive. I've raised two Belgian Malinois from babies and now they're two. I survived but my leather couch cushions didn't. All searches for repair were slim. UNTIL Alexander's Upholstery. They did such an exceptional job with new foam cushions ( they offer down too) , and the torn zipper back I'm going to have them put new foam in the other cushions that aren't even damaged. This is the second time we've had the same sofa done by Alexander's Upholstering. The two pieces connect with a radius--making it very flexible given the room size--but also very difficult and expensive to find as new. It has lasted us over 22 years now. And when their upholsterer is done--both the foam and the material are literally better--firmer--than when it was new. read more

Terrific family owned and operated business! Quality materials and very competitive prices. We have been using their services for many years (most recently within the last 30 days). Their work and customer service has always been top-notch. They use quality materials and their prices are very competitive, so I no longer bother to shop around for more competitive rates. Because they are good at what they do, the shop is sometimes very busy, but they have always done their best to accommodate or schedule and provide a quick turn-around. This is a great place where I have been getting antique furniture and even boat cushions upholstered for many years. They took a setback three years ago when Don passed away. Luckily his upholsterers took over the business and still continue to give good service with excellent quality work. Today I picked up some cushions that I wanted to use for a 4th of July celebration. They sped up the order to meet my schedule. read more

I have never posted a negative review. I worked with Don for years for all of my upholstery needs. As a matter of fact he used me as a reference for a few jobs!!! He was always a little gruff and crabby but did good work so I went back.. He did many jobs for me... The last job he did for me over the summer he did not really finish the job.. I intended on paying him for all of the work but he gave me back the huge roll of fabric for the last piece of furniture and acted like he did not know what it was for... Of course he knew what it was for because he took the measurements and ordered the fabric.. He treated me terrible and made me feel like I had not paid... Well, he had been out of town.. Sent another guy to deliver and I had done thousands of dollars of business with him in the past..i sent him a note with payment in full letting him know he made me cry, he had been so rude to me, he never responded.. I guess he is too busy and does not need the business! Go find another place, I will never go back!!! read more

I have used few other shops in past, they never delivered what they promised , But Alexander's upholstery has always exceed my expectation!!!! I also had a bad experience. I used Alexander's years ago and the experience was positive so I went back there when I needed my sofa and some chairs reupholstered. The woman came to the house to give us an estimate and took a swatch of the fabric we wanted to use. She asked my husband to come in and pick up samples the next week. He went in and got them. He brought them home, but none worked, nor were they like the swatch we had given her so he returned them. We heard nothing for three weeks so went in to check. No samples were pulled, plus they lost the swatch we had given them in the first place. Another week went by with nothing from them. (We are now five weeks from the original estimate with no samples, no contact except what we initiated.) I finally called and said forget it. It took a few tries to finally get an estimate on a large Baker chair & ottoman I wanted recovered. I went into shop about 4 mo ago & was told by gal to email pic's & they would send bid, I did so, but never rec'd call/email back. Went in again a mo ago and showed Lydia pic's from my phone of chair/ottoman with approx. measurements & discussed a few fabric options, decided to find my own fabric as the prices she gave me were $$$. Took a # of tries to find correct phone # to call. Got my fabric, called Lydia to set appt. to pick up chair (I live local) & go over fabric placement. They were on time to my home, however, she said chair was bigger than she thought (even though I told her size), we negotiated to a median price. I told her I didn't need chair for 3 weeks as I was going out of town. I rec'd a call a few days later saying that Carlos would have chair done before I left(great!!) & we set a time for delivery. They gave a courtesy call to say they were running late, & then another call when they realized they forget to replace cushion foam. Chair & ottoman delivered to my home by Carlos & Lydia and it looked FABULOUS! He did a wonderful job, everything as I requested with great craftsmanship. Very happy. Would have given 5 stars, but because of the persistence it took on my part to get an estimate, only gave 4. I believe Carlos was Don's (previous owner) main upholsterer & they took over/ bought business when he retired. I'm sure they're just working out kinks on the front end, as the back end knows what they're doing. Will definitely use for future upholstery work. read more

I have also never posted a bad review before. My great aunt recommended this place but I believe it has come under new ownership. The customer service was TERRIBLE! The lady who owns it took 3 weeks to process my order. I was without my dining room chairs for 3 months. On the phone she couldn't answer questions, would tell me she would call back with an answer and not call back for days. We went back and forth like this many times, often with her calling back to ask if I'd made a decision, I'd tell her shed still never answered my question. She'd act embarrassed and ask to call back with the answer. We asked for a discount because of the inconvenience of not having chairs for months. She made excuses about being out of town (not our fault we were told it would take 2-3 weeks when we dropped the chairs off). Then she said the chairs had 'been ready for awhile.' They had sat in the shop one extra week because I was out of town when they were finally finished. But it took 3 months for them to be done to start with. She was super snide acting like it was my fault when she was the one who didn't have it together. I kept trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but this was just bad customer service. I like to support mom and places and the chairs looked good when done but I would not recommend these rude, unprofessional people. The man doing the work needs someone else dealing with customers. read more
