Earliest appointment was 3 months ahead and my son…read moredid not have glasses for school and they could not use his last exam to make some glasses in the while he waited for his appointment! Receptionist asked Dr Hayes if he could been seen as emergency since he had no glasses for school and they told me he couldn't see him. I asked the receptionist what else could I do since my son could not wait 3 months with no glasses while going to school. She just shrugged her shoulder and said she did not know.

First off, they were wide open for appointments and now I can see why. They were so quick to tell me over the phone a week ago that they would be able to see my minor son who's 13 for a chalazion that he has had now for 3 months... I already know that it is an issue that won't heal itself as he has actually had to undergo surgery for the opposite eye with the exact same thing performed by an amazing ophthalmologist in CA... The office staff member who I spoke with a week prior to todays failed appointment confirmed that the doctor would be able to see my son without a referral from an optometrist (which is why I chose to book with TCECS to begin with). This morning after waking up extra early to get myself & my young daughter ready to get my son there on time ahead of his 8 AM appointment I am told by the office manager that she isn't sure if my private federal insurance will be enough for the doctor to even see my son... Annoyed by this new piece of information that not only should have been looked into by office staff upon making the appointment a week ago but also that I am now sitting there in an empty waiting room with two fully vaccinated and masked children* waiting on this person to call and verify if I just wasted my time driving to the office and not booking elsewhere... when my five year old daughter lets out a small cough... the office manager yells out from behind the desk "Does she have a cold?" answering honestly I say "No the doctor says it's just her allergies." She then proceeds to tell me that the doctor won't see my son if he knows he's been around my daughter with a cough... I tell her again it's allergies and she said, (unmasked & likely unvaccinated) "I'm sorry but since we don't know you, we don't know if that's true." At that moment I said, "You know what, you have now done more than just wasted my time, gas & energy so I think we'll be seeing another Doctor." I got my license & insurance card back (as I know she had not even tried yet to run it). It was almost as if she didn't want to work this AM- like they weren't even hurting for the business or even cared that they had just been so unprofessional & unapologetic. I understand that we are coming out of pandemic times but this isn't the start of Covid where the sound of a cough was a sure sign of infection & to treat a child like that did not sit well with me at all. When the staff isn't even wearing a mask, how do you ask those who are to leave & how serious can you actually be taken? Honestly, I'm still fuming and no it's not just about the gas... My son needs to be seen by an ophthalmologist & soon but ultimately I just could not move on with my day until I warned a few people & let them know what a JOKE this place is.

I came in with my grandmother, who is currently battling cancer, and instead of showing any understanding or compassion, we were simply told to sit down and wait with no acknowledgment of the situation. Additionally, her demeanor--She appeared more focused on being on her phone and making faces at people walking in than doing her job--felt dismissive and inappropriate for someone in a front-facing role. As the first point of contact for patients and families, I believe it is extremely important to show respect, professionalism, and empathy. This experience was very disappointing during an already difficult time for my family. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and addressed appropriately.It is very concerning that this behavior is either unnoticed or unaddressed by management.
