I recently had an appointment with Becca at Alexander G and I absolutely loved the salon and the haircut!! Becca is a very talented stylist and hair genius. She used a deep conditioner on my hair that left it feely incredibly soft and smooth (I've had a lot of trouble with deep conditioner in the past always leaving my hair oily). I am a guy with short hair and recently went to Alexander G for a haircut before my wedding. This review is only related to my experience getting a men's haircut. Ahead of my wedding, I wanted to go beyond the normal haircut and have something truly special. Alexander G made the experience enjoyable with sparkling water and good conversation. Alexander doesn't use clippers which he shared is better for the hair. Unfortunately, this led to a very uneven cut on my head that had patches of short and long hair that simply didn't look good and couldn't be styled in the manner I requested it be cut. I tried to use a variety of hair products for two days before giving up and making an appointment at another barber to fix things. (The other barber literally said "whoa...what happened?" when I sat in her chair.) Based upon the other reviews and a woman that got her hair cut right before me, I'm fairly certain this place is great for a woman's haircut but if you are a guy with relatively short hair, you may want to look elsewhere. read more

Madeline is a true hero. After a disastrous and seriously hair destroying bleach and tone gone wrong at another salon in the area, I was desperate to get all the fried hair cut off my head (literally started contacting other salons as soon as I left the first one). Lucky for me, Madeline had an opening one hour later. I came in ready for her to buzz it off (literally that bad). She surveyed the situation, acknowledged it was bad and then got to work salvaging and fixing what she could. She gave me two hair masks, talked me through hair health and what I can do while I grow out the damaged hair and gave me a super cute cut to boot. THANK YOU MADELINE. When I walked in I was truly embarrassed to be in public, but she had me looking fly when I left (literally got hair compliments on my walk home). Oh and her prices are insanely affordable for San Francisco standards. Quick tip: the salon is a little hard to find. This is a great hair salon. I requested an appointment in Yelp and got to do my hair out of their normal business hours (6:15pm), which is really nice as I get to cut my hair after I get off work at 6pm. The ambience is posh and the place is well-maintained. Eunice greeted me with a warm introduction to the salon. She was very patient and took the time to ask about my hair and my expectations, and performed a great cut. I also got a free glaze as a part of their promotion. The whole cut lasted for two hours as Eunice paid great attention to details, making adjustments after my hair is blow dried. Best haircut I had in a long time! I love this salon, tucked away in the FiDi! Amy is my go to and she always gets my blonde hair shiny and just the perfect shade I'm going for. From butter to honey to ice queen - she always delivers! As a curly girl, I've always had long hair. But recently, we chopped it all off to an asymmetrical bob. (So chic!) And as much as I loved my little cherub curls, I wanted something more sleek, so we did an Agave smoothing treatment. All natural, my hair came out beautiful! It's just enough to easily blow dry and flat iron the flyaways, that my routine is still under 10min. Plus, it still gets perfect beach waves, when I want a different look. As an outer Richmond resident, I often saw the Alexander G salon on clement and 32nd but never had a chance to pop in before they consolidated to their Bush st. location. I finally had an opportunity to get to downtown and let me tell you, it is worth the commute! Eunice was so professional and sweet. I'm pretty low maintenance and usually getoverwhelmed in salons, especially beautiful ones like Alexander G. Eunice made me feel so comfortable and at ease, I had no problem trusting that she would deliver on my hair. It sounds crazy, but the time and attention to detail Eunice put into my balayage was like watching an artist. I love my haircut and the color came out so natural and perfectly blended. Back in September I was so excited that salons were able to re-open because it had been over a year since I'd gotten my hair done. I decided to try Alexander G because the reviews were good and the salon was cute. The staff was incredibly friendly and covid safe. I decided to change it up a little and asked to darken my hair and give it some extra layers. When the stylist turned my seat around to the mirror, I had no words. I did not like what she did. My hair did not resemble the photo I showed the stylist and was barely darkened. I'm not one to complain and don't really enjoy confrontation, so I decided to go home and straighten my hair myself in hopes that it was just the way the stylist styled my hair that I didn't like. To my dismay, my hair was even worse after doing so. With my hair straightened, the layers looked incredibly choppy and were not blended well. I was practically in tears because I absolutely did not like the reflection I saw in the mirror. I called the salon back immediately and asked to speak with the owner, Alexander. He took my call and asked me to come back in a few days later so he could try to fix the issue himself. While I greatly appreciated his willingness to see me again, all he did was blend my layers (that honestly should have been blended to begin with) and offered nothing else in return. I still insisted that I was happy to pay for the service, but shouldn't have to pay the full amount as I was still not satisfied with my new look. I hesitated writing this review for so long because I felt badly about the fact that small businesses such as salons had been hit so hard due to Covid. However, I've come to realize that Covid was hard on me as an essential worker too and I shouldn't have had to fork out $330.00 for a haircut and "color" that I didn't like. Flew up for a holiday party and unfortunately with a cancelled flight, ended up missing my appointment at another blow dry bar in the area. Turns out, this was a blessing in disguise! I reached out to AG through Yelp to request a same day appointment for a style. Sophia was super quick to respond and squeezed me in for later that day. Rosa was a doll & did a phenomenal job on my hair! She replicated a style from a photo that I showed her and it turned out even better than I could've hoped for. I have extremely fine, medium length hair that never holds a curl. Rosa worked some kind of crazy magic bc with the help of a lot of Bobby pins and a healthy dose of hairspray, my style lasted all night- even in the rain. Thank you so much, Rosa! It wasn't till I was making my own money that I started to care about my hair (because let's face it the older you get the less hair grows). Victoria is amazing. SOOO CONVENIENT! this location is steps away from my office which makes it a no brainer - but on top of it all the hours are fantastic and easily fit into my schedule. i was able to pop in for a quick cut in the morning with Amy, who was chatty and personable without being fake or too artificial. while my cut is a tad shorter than i intended (it always ends up that way, ha!) the layers are great and Amy did a good job. called for a blowout, made an appt 1.5 hours in advance. the woman (femme?) who answered my call was accommodating and nice, even looked up the distance from my hotel. they also gave me some info on how to get from the building address to the actual suite (walk in and just turn right) called back literally 30 seconds later to see if i could change my appointment to all-over color; another other (femme?) person told me i could keep my same appointment plus color. i'm visiting and needed this done anyway-- so yay!!!! ***update a few hours later lol*** easy to find. walk in, see security counter, immediately turn right and it's the glass doors on your right. modest space but somehow not at all cramped. decor is meh but it seems to be a newish spot so whatever- i care about cleanliness (it was) and quality of service (excellent). it was the quickest, easiest color i've ever had... idk how or why but it was lol! i was there *just* over an hour. she did an impeccable job with barrier cream and there wasn't a smidge of black/blue dye on me ANYWHERE. not even the tiniest bit. i color my hair as dark blue/black as you can get it, so this is important for me haha. you could definitely do this with a longer lunch. forgot to add: an equal amount of men and woman were there; guys, get your hair cut here! leave without little bits of hair all over your face! tldr: decor leaves something to be desired but i with some california closet/ikea style decor and shelving it would be gorgeous. regardless- it was convenient, the price was reasonable ($95 for all-over color), and my stylist made EXCELLENT conversation :) 5/5 stars. read more
