Run. Save your self and your money! This doctor put me through two "failed" rounds of very expensive meds and charged for visits and ultrasounds on top of his up front fee. He sat me down in his WAITING ROOM AREA to tell me he used all his tricks and I was a lost cause, that I needed to lose weight, that it was my fault the rounds failed, that I had PCOS (which I don't), that even if I did lose weight my eggs would be bad. He made matters worse by telling me that I "look like a nice person who plenty of people would want to donate eggs to" and then proceeded to tell me to use my daughter in laws eggs since they just had a child, (I was 18 when I had him, I am now 40) my son is 21. All of this was in his waiting room! No privacy AND he never allowed my partner to be present. I was alone when he said these things to me. I cried, no, I bawled my eyes out and felt utterly crushed. His words left emotional damage. I thankfully was in a support group for IVF over 40 and they all encouraged me to get a second opinion. That second opinion led me to a phenomenal doctor that was able to effortlessly retrieve 20 mature eggs, which 18 fertilized, then 13 made it to blasts, and we have two perfectly healthy embryo babies on ice as I type this. All while my supportive partner got to be by my side! Turns out it wasn't me, it was the inept doctor with horrific bedside manner. Please go somewhere else. If he tells you to use donor eggs, or that you have PCOS go get a second opinion! Don't give up! There are more effective and kind doctors out there. read more

Still on the fence if we should proceed legally but till then I've finally decided to tell you all how it really is. When you bring the staff's actions to Alex, he acts like he is oblivious. He knows exactly how they act because he is the ring master. Not only does staff mis communicate to the point it made it so confusing and cost us more out of pocket, they, to your face, say they never said that. Well you know what? I have each of you on recording. Once I mentioned this, magically their stories began to connect. Accounting dept... oh holy hell. She is not able to send an invoice of all you are being charged and once she does, adds $1,000 to it. I have you on recording stating it was $4050. Your invoice says $5,050. Do you know its illegal to price gouge? On top her attitude is A+ ***hole. Then I respectfully cancelled after my 1st round. There was another $1,000 charged for Alex to view ultrasounds. He only came into 1 ultrasound to give me bad news, where in the heck did he "review" 4 other ultrasounds for $250 each? Your ultrasound tech told me she is new and the equipment is old. I've been going to Dr. Steinleitner's fertility clinic for the past 2 years and I truly have nothing but good things to say about him and his staff! My husband and I have to drive 3 hours each way for every appointment, and there are certainly other clinics closer to where we live, but we feel it's totally worth the trek. Right from the first consultation, we knew Dr. Steinleitner was who we wanted to work with on our fertility journey. Everyone who works at his clinic is so kind and makes me feel like a valued patient and not just a number or a dollar sign. Roman, who runs the front desk, has always made me feel especially welcome, greeting me by name when I arrive. My appointments are always on time and I never have to wait too long to see the doctor. More importantly, my questions are always answered promptly when I message the doctor or my cycle coordinator though the patient portal. In person, Dr. Steinleitner is warm and gregarious with a great sense of humor, but he tells it like it is and doesn't sugarcoat things, which I appreciate. He makes sure we understand both the challenges and the facts behind each procedure, but he is very confident and experienced and I trust him fully to give us the best results possible. He's also conscious of how expensive this process is and he never pushes for unnecessary expenses. Even the medications are ordered from a low cost pharmacy to save us literally thousands of dollars. IVF is an emotional, expensive, and physically demanding process, so it's important to go someplace where you feel fully supported. My first cycle Dr.S and his Fresno office were very professional and on top of everything. However, for my 2nd and 3rd cycle they would not contact me until last minute to do lab work and my meds were also ordered last minute causing me to postpone cycles. His facility in San Luis Obispo where the retrieval's and transfers are completed is not what you would expect. The lobby is nice, but you get to the back and it's very basic. It was just an ugly cold room with a surgery table and an old sonogram machine. The anesthesiologist comes in sneezing drinking coffee as she gets your "cocktail" together and the semen sample is collected in a public bathroom outside the main office by the elevators. After all this you then wake up in a dark corner where the Dr is speaking to you while you are still under anesthesia because he doesn't have time to actually bring in your family member to explain the outcome of your surgery. The worst part of this experience was when I went in for a transfer procedure and before the surgery Dr. S explained I had 3 mature embryos and 1 embryo did not make it, but when I was there with my legs in the air he said sorry he read the chart wrong I only had 1 mature egg the others were no good. I realize people make mistakes, but hearing that made my heart drop! I asked to have a picture of my embryos and the nurse says oh no we don't have that technology. How can you have billboards from fresno to San Luis Obispo but you don't have up to date technology? If we hadn't already paid him our life savings upfront for his "special" plan for 4 cycles (non refundable) I would not have continued after the 1st red flag in my 2nd cycle. I felt trapped and I kept telling myself it's ok once I'm pregnant this will be over. However, unfortunately for us it did not work. I went to speak to Dr. S about our next steps for my last cycle and he suggested a different egg donor and again he felt confident I could get pregnant with the "right donor". So my option at this point is to loose out on my escrow acct money for the 4th cycle if we don't continue or pay another possible $15-20,000 to complete another cycle. I then asked if since my last 3 cycles failed if we did not want to continue if I could possibly use my prepaid money in my escrow acct to pay for the extra $1,000 procedure he requested be done the last cycle? He then flipped out on me saying no because that escrow money was from a special plan and they don't have a way to separate the money from the special plan. Also, since it was a special plan if he had charged me regular price I would actually in reality owe him $2,000. I asked him to explain then why the procedure was done because I had asked for it originally not to be done. He couldn't explain it to me and his only response was he does 10 surgeries a day and doesn't have time to review a patients file to see what they do and do not want. This response from him explains why he got my embryo information wrong on the transfer. After all is said and done it is what it is and unfortunately those of us who struggle with infertility are easy prey. I hope my review can possibly help someone else not go through what my family and I went through with this Dr. I rather loose out on my last cycle money then to ever see this man again in my life. Also, read his contract very thoroughly and if possible have a lawyer review the indemnity clause and make sure you understand what that means. Good luck! read more

I did not actually visit this office but I just had a bad experience with a member of the staff. In front of the office, there are parking spots for the public and a 30 minute only parking spot. There was a small space in the public 24 hour spot so I simply pulled my car in to see if I could fit and went outside of my car to make sure that I wasn't in the 30 minute zone. While checking my car one of the members of the staff, probably a receptionist, goes out of their way to tell me I can't park their and threatens that I will be towed. I understand this and that is why I went out of the way to check my car and decide to move it. I did not deserve the snarky comment and threat. This lady has made me upset and she should be more careful with how she represents her business. read more

Here are some examples of experiences I had with Dr. Steinleitner and his practice. You can decide if this is the type of care you want... 1. I received a vaginal ultrasound in a supply room (e.g., red solo cups on the floor, paper reams on the shelves) with the door cracked because it wouldn't shut all the way. There was no room for a nurse or my husband to be present. 2. Your medication will come from overseas (I think Turkey) - medication requiring refrigeration will not be packaged correctly (wrapped in black electrical tape in the shape of a brick) and therefore will arrive unrefrigerated. You'll be told not to worry, just put it in the fridge. On a separate note, one of the medications I was prescribed was recalled in the U.S. in 2015 for lack of potency... and there remains outstanding class action lawsuits against the company. 3. The office did not order me enough medication, so I was provided with the name and phone number of a different patient who had extra medication. I drove to her house in Santa Maria to purchase the medication I needed to complete m cycle. She told me I was he second patient in two days they sent to her. *HIPPA violation 4. My final phone conversation with his accountant ended with her saying "just pay us the money so you never have to hear from us again." She could not articulate over the phone exactly what my bill was for... 5. I have shown up for appointments, to arrive and be told "sorry, the doctor is not in the office today... he is in the Fresno office." 6. I routinely witnessed the nurse give medication instructions to other patients in the lobby. *HIPPA violation. 7. I was given protocol that I sincerely believe was in the best interest of his practice to get women in "cohorts" rather than what was in my best interest. For example, I was given some "medical reason" why I shouldn't do a fresh transfer despite the medical research suggesting otherwise. I was given only limited testing to diagnose my infertility. A subsequent doctor did further testing and well.... Now that I am at a different practice, the difference in care is night and day. And this list is just a taste... I ignored all the red flags and told myself "he's close, he's convenient, and he's inexpensive". The lack of professionalism and incompetence across the board at this practice is appalling. read more

Dr. Steinleitner and all of his staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. They know this "is an emotional journey as well as a physical one". At times all of the meds and appointments can get confusing and overwhelming but this office uses a app to help you keep track. I am someone who doesn't have a infertility issue I have a tubal ligation and thought it would be easier to have a ivf since its less invasive after going to my consultation with Dr.S I found not only is he a good liar but his number one intention is to get as much money out of you as possible. I have 3 beautiful boys and I've never had issues getting pregnant or carrying achild he gave us a 95 percent chance of getting pregnant our first cycle with him was 2 embryo fresh 5 day blastocyst transfere and ended in a chemical pregnancy . we had what i thought was 4 frozen and some how turned out to only have one when we decided to do a FET(FROZEN EMBROY TRANSFER) Never did we get any calls or communication from the embryologist and when I reached out to him he was brief and short to where it left me still with many questions. Still i don't have answers. So anyways after we did the FET we finally got pregnant again and ended in miscarriage once again! Theres no remorse from the doctor he just wants to know when we can set up another cycle. You won't see him but when he does the procedure he relys on his co works most only being able to do ultrasounds ,They arent NPs or doctors.. I feel failed and cheated after over 20 thousand with nothing but heart ache to show for! Please don't go threw the heart ache I did this guy has only one agenda thats to see how many time he can get you to do cycles and make as much as it would cost to go to a true endocrinologist, not to help couples get pregnant.. I'm proof he has no other agenda but that because I only have one issue and that's being fixed. I really hope that this helps someone from feeling broken like me! Dr. Steinleitner was the most unprofessional doctor I have ever encountered. I did feel that he was knowledgeable and diagnostically was good, but never before have I experienced panic attacks as I did when I was seeing him. He is not okay with the patient asking questions and seems to want you to do what he says with minimal explanation. I am used to the idea that this is my body and my money and the doctor works for me. While I value a doctor's expertise I expect them to tell me the pros and cons and ultimately leave a decision as to what to do to proceed up to me. Dr. Steinleitner clearly does not have this perspective. He threw things at me in anger, screamed at me, berated me for calling him on his cell phone (only 3 times in two years), and treated me with disregard. I absolutely loved this clinic and the doctor. He is down to earth and sits with you to go over things personally. I had tested out other clinics before I found Dr. Steinleitner. I was very pleased with most everything in my IVF journey at this clinic. Most IVF clinics are a one price fits all and I don't agree with that, we each have separate needs in this journey. His staff was super friendly and it felt like everyone knew us personally. They are so helpful with every step and the pharmacy they use is equally as helpful and nice. I have been recommending this clinic since I started there (I have since been turned over to my OB). My only issue was my coordinator, I had to keep reminding her of things that needed to be done, almost missed my meds cause she forgot to input the doctors order BUT her supervisor was on top of things. I feel as though Dr. Steinleitner & staff have become a part of our family. I can't truly put into words how I feel. This journey is confusing, exhausting, very expensive and wonderful all at the same time. You have to be patient and realistic if you decide to do IVF. That is what connected us with the doctor right away. He did not blow smoke. He is honest yet always compassionate. He always educated us on what and why we were doing that we were doing. We just happened to be on a schedule at the same time as they were going through some changes themselves. Moving offices, opening a new surgical center and hiring new staff. This is not a business where you can just shut down until everything is running smoothly. They kept business as usual and every visit we felt welcomed and not rushed. Dr. Steinleitner is hands down the most dedicated doctor I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. If there ever was confusion or apprehension on my part, he or my amazing patient coordinator would personally call me. It didn't matter if it was an early morning, night or the weekend. I know there are mixed reviews on here about Dr. S but I am here to tell you he works ACTUAL MIRACLES. He is an amazing doctor. He does not treat you like a cookie cutter case. (This means A LOT) After running many tests on us he thought he'd figured out our fertility issues. Anyways, after our first egg retrieval he discovered my eggs are different then normal eggs (like he has only seen a couple eggs like mine in his 30+ years). I made no embryos. He didn't give up. He tried new protocols, new medications, worked hard for me. He always messaged me back promptly. After our second round of IVF I made FIVE genetically normal embryos (miracles, seriously) and am now 29 weeks with our daughter. I believe that selecting your infertility medical staff needs an honest review to base your opinion on. I saw Dr. Steinlietner from September 2017 to September 2018. During that time, I was repeatedly appalled at how incompetent the doctor and his staff were. This doesn't even begin to touch on the fact that everything is a two month wait.. The doctor will try to convince you that your body needs that amount of time between treatments. Let me tell you the truth: it's simply to fit into his too-full schedule. The reason that his schedule is overbooked is simple: he treats you like a number and only wants your money. His goals do not align with your goals. Run fast and far away from this practice. Love yourself during this tough time in your life to seek better medical staff. After 12 months with Dr. Steinlietner, I was successful with Dr. Allan in Santa Barbara within one treatment cycle. The difference in care was amazing, and allowed us to achieve our goal. read more

I have a feeling the positive reviews are solely because the women became pregnant. That is awesome for them but won't be what I'm basing this review on. I too became pregnant but wish my husband and I could have gone somewhere else. If the convenience of the location is the only reason you are choosing this place then please reconsider. You will receive far superior care by driving a bit farther to Santa Barbara. The office staff will treat you like they don't need your business. They will never learn your name and won't be accommodating at all with scheduling even if they are the ones who mess up your appointment. The doctor kept messing up my due date and became frustrated when I corrected him. He had gotten my transfer date wrong and tried to take me off the supplemental hormones too early. I had to be persistent in explaining his error and he brushed over it when he finally realized he was wrong. The hormones sustain the pregnancy until the placenta takes over so his error could have been detrimental. He also has a very narrow, one size fits all approach that simply won't work for many women. Without telling him I made my own small adjustments based on my previous doctor's recommendations and believe I only became pregnant by tweaking my care plan. We should be our own advocates even with the best doctors but be on high alert if you must go here. Again, if you have the option strongly consider the drive south. If we choose to expand our family we will not return here. read more
