The Alex III chain is fully homegrown, and has been aruond for as long as I can remember. My family and I used to go to the San Juan branch when I was younger, for its comparatively elevated renditions of Filipino food. Their menu consists mostly of heirloom recipes (Alex III started out as a family business, and I think it still is), you can bet that the food they serve you will have that homemade meal.
Perhaps most famous for their barbecue peanut sauce, asking for any of their grilled items and smothering it with sauce (if you didn't think it was already smothered enough) will probably be one of the best things you will do all day. It is always a tough decision to choose between chicken or pork skewers. But always, with java rice.
On some particularly difficult work days, my officemates and I sometimes order our favorites. Luckily, our office is literally a five-minute walk from Alex III, so we can expect to have our food in approximately 20 minutes. This is great, because it allows us the time and convenience of having tasty comfort food delivered right to us so soon. And the food is still hot when they get to us.
So, it doesn't look like Alex III is not going anywhere, anytime soon. I hope it stays there, so it gets to comfort another generation with yummy Filipino heirloom recipes. read more
