The only reason they are getting a star is because I did enjoy the learning environment and the people I was attending with. Their customer service is awful. I took the Instructor's Course through them in October and unfortunately had to cut it short. I have been trying to arrange a time to finish off the course that I paid for, but all I hear is crickets. $900+ is a lot of money and I am definitely not getting my money's worth. Great place, great staff. I took a 5-day OFA Level 2 course here. The instructor made the material easy to remember, and focused a lot on actual practise scenarios, to get you ready for the test (and for real life!) The instructor was also very knowledgeable, and the class size was perfect (12 ish people) Definitely recommend! PS If it's your first time here make sure to arrive early I secure parking (the street parking on Fort needs to be renewed every 3 hours) but you can find parkades and other parking within a few blocks. read more

Definitely worth giving them a visit. They have moved to a new location, over at 2780 Richmond Avenue, still in Victoria, and the new space is in an old school!! The classroom spaces can hold roughly 20 students, with a few rooms in use, and a whole storage room full of supplies. They have big plans, and will likely find an even better location soon. The classes are very hands-on. Expect to get a bit messy, but nothing heavy. You will get a good workout in all skill components, depending upon the level of training you are aiming for. More advanced courses offer a lot more practical experience. If you require multiple courses, they offer loyalty discounts. The packages for their basic, handy, safety kits, have been worked over several times to get the price down to more-than-affordable for the safety-minded, or for those who prefer to remain prepared for any potential situation. The people I dealt with are an enthusiastic bunch who are clearly passionate about teaching all the important first aid facts to help in the everyday, at leisure, or in the workplace. read more

It was OK. I've taken many first aid classes over 3 decades and this one was not as clearly taught, not as clean and in too small a space for so many people. Baby dolls for practice we're so filthy, I washed up after touching them. No hand outs or clear visuals written on board to help solidify what we're learning. Class was taught with a low rambling, fast talking and hard to follow instructor who seemed stressed and kept complaining about things under his breath. By the afternoon it was hot in the crowded room... and it was only March. Overall not a great experience. read more

Good news for the other people in my class... they get to have another class, as Canadian Red Cross found that this class to have been improperly taught and did not meet their standards for time and content. After further concerns to Red Cross about a bullying/inappropriate phone call from the owner I was finally given a refund. I didn't appreciate being insulted, degraded, and sworn at and lied to. I have been banned from Alert First Aid by said owner for life for speaking actual truthful facts. So..... beware, your experience may vary. But the truth is out there. Original review below. I signed up for a HCP course(6:15pm - 10pm $70.00) and there were conflicting information as to location from the receipt and the website. No instructions on how to get the online first aid manual, no offer of hard copy for purchase at the class. I arrived 15 minutes early and went to the street front classroom entrance and found a instructor sitting at a table with class lists. I didn't see my name on one of the three lists. I asked where my class was . I was told to go on a trek deeper into the building. I stopped at the next open door and inquired if this was my class by name of class. I was told it was that class. I went to the table and looked for my name on the class list there. No name. I inquired, and offered my confirmation number, told not needed but to have a seat and that she had a full class. If everyone showed up I would have to go. (when I signed up the site said there spaces left for the class). A third of the students showed up 15 minutes late as they were given the wrong address. The instructor was personable and had a interesting background but had habits that were unpleasant. The instructor tried to keep a upbeat energy in the class but reminded me of Joan Rivers style of comedy. Doing jazz hands and saying "yaaa no spinal" is unnecessary silliness. There was a carafe of coffee available but no resupply of the dwindling number of cups. Water was offered but not present. The room we were in was not adequate for 18 people to be working in. The instructor said the room would get hot and could turn on a fan, it did get uncomfortable when 18 people were doing the skills and moving around. There was no media/AV presentation, students were told to retrieve their own mats to lay on the floor, retrieve their own adult & infant manikins, masks were given out for the practice(mine had sticky residue on it and to unknown pieces of debris) there were no one way valves for the masks. I did not put my mouth on my mask. The adult manikin consisted of a extremely tired three piece cpr ACTAR manikin(no instruction on how to assemble it was supplied). It was an empty shell for a head(mine had a piece of old chewed gum stuck inside) and it seriously could have used a bleach and scrub. The black heart/piston was worn out. I was told not to lift my hand off the chest but it was the piston that could not recover from the compression fast enough. The manikin had no lungs to hold air thus you were unable to tell if you inflated the chest properly. The baby doll was just that a OLD unclean toy doll. Only saw 2 actual infant cpr manikins in the whole class. We were shown the AED(automated external defibrillator) we did not get to practice with one. The instructor had to go find trainer (cardiac science G5). We were divided into partners to use the bag valve mask( we each did one try on an adult manikin). No child skill, no infant skill, no AED skill. There was no instruction in how to do a jaw thrust for a possible spinal injury situation. No two person cpr with AED. Then at the end we were told how fill out our temporary certificates and to come up and present them for the instructor to sign. Class start time 6:15, end time 10:00. I was out of the building 9:38 pm. total time 3 hours 23 minutes. I do not think we covered the material efficiently or effectively or completely. Just got certified today for Childcare First Aid & CPR (c) in Duncan (had to drive up from Victoria as all Victoria classes were full). I needed to get First Aid for a new job I'm starting and was honestly dreading having to take this course as I figured it would be a long, boring day. I was so pleasantly surprised! There were only 8 of us in the class and we had Brandon as a teacher who was fantastic- he was a real pro. Also loved how passionate he was about all the content and how he always had a sense of humour. He made it a really enjoyable day! I can't believe how much I learned and how competent I now feel. The whole day was very hands on which was great, we didn't spend much time sitting around just listening to info (unless it was interesting/useful stories). Can't recommend this course/company and Brandon enough! :-) read more

On my first day, I was really nervous when I went in the classroom because it was my first time attending a training course here in Canada. As soon as I talked to Cheryl and Curran (really cool firefighter btw), their friendly vibes radiated towards me and I felt really welcomed. The second day was as fun as the first because Morgan (with Curran) was also as friendly as Cheryl. Please laugh at her jokes cause they're really funny ;) The training was very informative and fun at the same time. I enjoyed the situational part most because your brain is stimulated to think and you can learn from your mistakes. Honestly, I wished it was a week long training because I feel like I can learn more. Don't get me wrong, the 2 days training was still essential and I really learned A LOT. I would also like to mention how Ashley (Customer Service) was very helpful when I was inquiring about my certificate. I highly recommend taking First Aid and CPR course in Alert First Aid! read more
