He was very thorough in inspecting the bikes before releasing them to us and made sure that they were all a good fit. He just warned us to protect the bikes/lock them if we kept them over night, which was very useful. Our bikes were in excellent condition, perfect fit, very smooth ride, by the way. I even added a cute little basket to mine to carry my towel and swimsuit for our beach trip. I loved the basket, as you can see. :-) The bikes have headlights, rear reflectors for night riding and a cute little bell, to warn pedestrians on the route. The next day upon returning them, he was very generous and did not charge us extra even though we were late about 2 hours. Anyway, I just want to see this shop do well and receive more customers who want to explore Barcelona, behind a bike. I had a 3-day window in between a business trip and a family vacation and Jaume was able to find a…read moreway to work in a mini tour for me. BikeCAT was about the 3rd cycling tour outfit I called in Girona. Juame's responsiveness and flexibility made it an easy call to go with him. We started corresponding around December time and answered all the questions I peppered him over the course of the 3 to 4 months. I went with a 2-day tour and 2-night stay at the Hotel Historic at the heart of the old city center. Xavier over at Historic (another great place to consider even if you're just visiting Girona) has worked closely with Jaume and the 2 hand off taking care of me - especially the getting me feed part! They are much as a team so I really had to think of the overall cost as 2 packages in one. Bike - Jaume had a challenge with fitting me (a size 48cm frame) with a bike for the 2 days I was here. We ended up using a 51cm Felt from a the Pro Garmin team with modifications to the handle bar to accommodate my 44cm wide preference and stem, saddle position and stack height. It seemed a bit strange at first but the fit was spot on right so I was very happy I didn't have to fiddle with anything. Tour - I've requested an early March time so this was a gamble with the unpredictable weather. Also, being one of the first guest of the season, I was the only rider. Nevertheless, Jaume took care of me and was ever vigilant to watch after a new rider from the US who was used to wider and straighter roads. On the second day, young Albert came along for the ride to keep company as well as learn the ropes of the business. I honestly had a great time - usually a quiet rider even in large group rides - Jaume put me at ease keep good company adjusting to my riding style and doing all the support you would expect. Jaume was even provided photographer service. Got a few good pictures to remember the experience. In looking back, I really have no complaints about the cycling adventure I had and BikeCAT has meet and exceeded most of my expectations. Girona was all that I had hoped for; historic European city, a fantastic cycling community and a quiet change of pace from the busy city hub of Barcelona. The weather mostly cooperated with us (save the cold morning temps - that's just from my spoiled southern California perspective). If I had the time to do this again, I would definitely go with Jaume and BikeCAT preferably in a larger group setting. If you're in the market for a memorable cycling adventure, I highly recommend Girona and BikeCAT.

When I returned to my apartment building with the bike, there was a man waiting by the entrance who followed me inside and waited on the stairwell. It appeared he was watching to see where the bike was stored. The bike was kept overnight in a locked space inside the apartment building. The following day it was stolen. I have now been asked to pay the full replacement cost of the bike, £2,600. I have asked TerraTours for further information including whether there have been previous thefts and whether they hold insurance or tracking on the bikes. So far this information has not been provided. I have been told the bikes are not insured against theft and are not tracked. I understand bike theft happens in Barcelona. I lived in the city for five years and owned road bikes so I am very aware of the risks and take appropriate precautions. In this case the theft followed someone clearly watching me enter the building and then breaking into a locked area. I have reported the incident to the police. If you have rented a bike from TerraTours and experienced a similar theft, please consider sharing your experience here so patterns can be identified.

I've been to Girona a few times now, and I always make a point of stopping at Bike Breaks-Girona Cycle Centre. This last time, we were staying an hour away on the coast and we drove in on a stormy day just before closing so I could go back to the place I consider the #1 cycle clothing shop on the planet. I got there right as they were closing in the rain, and they stayed open later for me just so I could nerd out. And it's easy to do so in a place where you can actually buy cycling clothing and equipment previously owned by real pros! And for, like, nada. If this were in California, I'd be paying hundreds of dollars for a jersey I just got from a top-20 Tour de France pro for 50 euros. Beyond the clothes, they also rent some great bikes, sponsor a lot of local bike-related events, do tours, and even have downloadable local routes ridden by local pros (I saw a bunch last time I was there, including a couple of pro teams riding together). I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this place is the best. And when you can't make it in person, you can order online (in fact, there's more online now than in the store). This last time I finally got to meet Dave, the founder, and his wife and daughter. Super excellent humans, all of them, and a business more than worthy of this review.

Yesterday was a super fun, challenging ride in beautiful Costa Brava. Can't recommend this ride enough, with its beautiful seaside towns and rolling coastlines. Lots of climbs and thrilling descents, and Claudio goes at whatever pace you like. The scenery is life-affirmingly stunning, and Claudio is so affable and knowledgeable about the surroundings (although he knows surprisingly little about local birds). can't wait for another ride in just a few days!

I must admit, riding Vespas (scooters) was WAY out of my comfort zone. We rented 2 Vespas-the first day we went we got the 50cc scooters and the second day we got the 125s. My husband and friend's husband drove and we were passengers. I'm kind of a scaredy cat but we wore helmets and I quickly got used to riding. There are so many people in the city on scooters that I felt safe and the other drivers on the streets were very aware of each other. The people that work there were super helpful, went over everything, and even mapped out routes for us. We had a Barri Gotic route, a beach route, olympic village route and a mountain route among others. We so enjoyed riding through the city streets, saw things we wouldn't have seen, and enjoyed the views. Make sure you get an international driver's license, you must have this to ride these. (My husband and friend had done this through AAA for $15-easy process-before we left the States). Highly recommend this company!
