This place was busy tonight! We arrived at 8:30 and the line was literally out the door! The tables inside were all occupied and so were the ones outside! We waited about 10 minutes to finally order what we wanted. There were so many yummy things to choose from! It was so hard to pick just one thing! You can ask for a sample of their ice cream since there are so many different flavors. Oh and they have wafer cones and wafer bowls for an additional charge. I ended up getting one scoop of the pecan/nuez flavored ice cream in a cup and it was the bombbbbbb. The ice cream was very creamy and the flavor was great! My husband ordered an agua fresca (melón) with a bag of Mexican chips (you can only find in Mexico) and a Mexican candy. The melon drink was delicious and tasted fresh. Both employees were great! We paid 7.84 for a large drink, one scoop of ice cream, bag of chips, and one candy. Definitely not bad! read more

Alegre (it means cheerful or happy in English) took me back to my youth in the mid 80s and early 90s. The shop reminds me of an ice cream shop my grandma used to take me to in Juarez. It was inside a Juarez mall. They have the same type of Mexican ice cream and flavors from back then at Alegre. They let you sample the ice cream before buying it. Alegre has a great selection of ice cream flavors, paletas (ice pops) and other Mexican snacks aka antojitos. I'm not sure if they change the flavors at times, I should've asked. The flavors I liked the most were tres leches, Gansito and strawberry cheesecake. I've baked a tres leches cake and it sort of had the same flavor. The Gansito has red jelly with chunks of chocolate in it. A Gansito is comparable to a Twinkie, except it's chocolate and has chocolate sprinkles on top. It also has red jelly inside of it. They're probably served in heaven. My son got a scoop of chocolate ice cream. I didn't like it as much as the other flavors I mentioned. It tasted watered down and it wasn't creamy at all. He said the same thing. I got a banana split with a scoop of tres leches and strawberry cheesecake. It was bomb! Chocolate and strawberry syrup was added on top with whipped cream and pecans. It's served with some banana slices in a waffle cone/cup. Both ice creams came with vanilla wafers. The only reason I give Alegre four stars is because all of the tables were dirty. Dirty tables and restrooms in public places are a pet peeve of mine. I didn't go into the restroom so I can't tell you what that was like. The customer service is great here. The girl helping us out was super attentive and polite. Like they say in Spanish, era muy amable. They mostly speak Spanish but understand English. The prices are pretty reasonable. I paid $7 and change for a banana split, a cup of chocolate ice cream and a 12 oz can of Coke Zero. I think I'll return, especially since the hot temperatures are around the corner. read more

I cannot believe I have not reviewed my favorite ice cream place. They make all the ice cream in house and they have a lot of unique flavors you can't get anywhere else. My personal favorite is the Gasito one, it has actual pieces of it and it's so gooood! Today I did have a sample of some new flavors they had avocado and jicama. The avocado one was delicious it was creamy and light. The jicama was okay I would like to try it topped with chamoy and tajin. Honestly though all of the different flavors I've tried are all really good including the mazapán, pistacho, cappuccino, and Ferro Rocher. I love that they always top your ice cream with a wafer cookie as their signature touch. They also have homemade paletas in all kinds of flavors. And if you are not in the mood for nieve there are all kinds of Mexican treats in store. Elote, chilindrinas, papas locas, cacahuetes preparados, aguas frescas, and so much more. They also have an option to sit inside or outside which is nice. You can always bring your furry friend along. The staff is super friendly and they are always really helpful and attentive. Whenever I'm in the mood for some good ole fashion homemade ice cream this is definitely on top of my list. Go check it out! read more

Tried new things here and they all were AMAZING! - strawberries & cream popsicle: Sweet cream goes well with those huge chunks of strawberry in it. Not overwhelming creamy and freshing. Get this!! - mango & chamoy popsicle: Delicious! Chunks of mango with that chile...like I'm eating candy, but cold! So good. - Horchata: THE BEST. Wow, their horchata is the best I've ever tasted. It wasn't too watery nor had too much cinnamon. It was sweet, but not too sweet. It's really delicious, I couldn't stop drinking it. Actually, I would call this refreshing as well. It has a lot of flavor! The large size is also super cheap. I honestly bought a large and saved it for the next few days, lol. Why not? It's so goooood. - Chilindrinas: Had this for the first time. A lot of customers seemed to order this and we just had to try it! Basically, there is thick and crispy cracker at the bottom (taste and texture reminds me of Asian shrimp crackers) with chopped lettuce, cucumber, and avocado, drizzled with this specific brand of hot sauce and crema--sort of like a salad. As plain as it looked, do not be fooled. IT IS AMAZING. WOW. Sprinkle the lime juice all over, get a chunk of the cracker with the salad and BAM...crunch from the veggies, creaminess from the avocado, saltiness and crunch from the cracker, and a little kick and tartness from the sauce...SO GOOD. Wow...I was FLOORED. LOVED THIS DISH. It's a great snack to share between a small group of people (depending on how much you want to share!) that is refreshing and full of flavor. I would totally get this again!!! Overall, love, love, love this place! Makes me feel like a kid again :). read more

I was looking for an authentic Mexican heladeria and I found Alegre. I drove 20 minutes to get there and I was not disappointed. The service was great. All the ice creams are homemade. I tried jicama, coconut and gansitos. There were all delish. They have a great variety of homemade paletas. In this heat, it was the perfect relief. read more

Alegre Ice Cream - Paletas. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - El Paso, Texas

I was craving some Mexican Icecream so stopped by here to check it out. The lady I am guessing the owner was very nice and greeted us in Spanish when we walked in. I got a scoop of Tres Leche and got my daughter a scoop of Vanilla. The ice cream is homemade and really good. The prices are decent as well! The tables inside to eat on are higher than the chairs/stools which was uncomfortable for us. They also sell other mexican snacks and elote. read more

Alegre Ice Cream - Yummy! - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - El Paso, Texas

My mom and her friends practically live here. They love the "Tostitos preparados" which come with corn. My brother loves their Ferrero ice cream. But if you're hating this heat and you're used to eating spicy Mexican things, you need a Chili Mango Paleta. It's the best thing in life! It has big chunks of delicious real mango, and all chili you could ask for. It is quite spicy, so consider your stomach warned but for $1.25 I stop and get one whenever I'm driving by. It's seriously the best paleta I've ever had. They have lots and lots of flavors to choose from, in both ice cream and paletas. I also recommend having their aguas frescas, so refreshing! I don't give them 4 stars because there's a snow stand 2 minutes away with better corn in a cup and papas locas. But this is my go-to for a refreshing drink/paleta. read more

I was crazy enough to try this place on a cold night. I have such a sweet tooth. This ice cream place is a bit small, maybe 5 tables, booth, and some a few seating outside. BUT, they have a many flavors and options to choose from! I wish I could have tried their horchata, but I already had ice cream and dinner. Lol. I don't think my friend could carry me out. Their ice cream was great! Not too sweet and the texture was soft and creamy. You can taste the homemade goodness! :D The flavor of my pistachio ice cream was a bit light, but I still enjoyed it. The price you pay for a cup or a cone is the same. So no worries! I'm sure to come back and try their horchata (and other flavored drinks). :) I don't speak spanish nor read, but the cashier explained that they served other food products so not everything is ice cream. :) one of the snacks I saw a few people bought was (I'm not sure how to spell this) chilidrinas. Made my mouth water. read more

Wow...I did not know this little gem was hiding in El Paso for the last two years! Fresh homemade ice-cream that will knock your socks off! I had the banana split with 3 different flavors, Ferrero Rocher, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Tres Leches! They were all bomb but the best one was the Tres Leches. My gf had a mango with chile ice cream bar that was just as amazing. They also had chocolate covered bananas, nachos, Elote, and about 50 other things to choose from. I got 3 scoops of ice cream with toppings and one ice cream bar for $6!!! read more

Alegre Ice Cream - Banana split! Best ice cream in El Paso. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - El Paso, Texas

An outsider coming to El Paso on business, and after a warm and dry day of work, I needed something refreshing. I honestly though of stopping at a chain ice cream joint, like a Marble Slab or something, but instead I scrolled through Yelp (Yelp has never disappointed once!), and there it was this "Alegre Ice Cream" place, so I decided to drive a few extra miles and give them a try. They sure didn't disappoint at all! It was delicious! They make their own ice creams! And they all taste so very good! (You can get spoon size samples). I had the Banana Split with Strawberry and Ferrero Ice Cream. It was fantastic! Dressed with all the goddies like a proper Banana Split. I left the place feeling like their name states "Alegre"! I'd really recommend this place! Oh, and kudos to the lady that took care of me. She was very helpful, and friendly. read more

This place is a hidden gem and a must visit. It's a small business with a home style feel. The ice cream is homemade and flavored vary. The sundaes are made with care and topped with a wafer like cookie. There is a wide variety of paletas and I must recommend the spicy ones. They are the best I've ever had and a nice blend of fruit and chili. The owner was very nice and the place was clean. Traveling through I know I will keep this on my radar read more

First, I love the fact that the owner makes the ice cream fresh, in the shop. All 24 flavors can be tasted before you choose. Most of these aren't your standard flavors. They are so much better. Alma provides service that is exactly what one is looking for on a day of happiness that deserves the thrill of ice cream. Patrons can create their own cup of deliciousness. This IS my new ice cream heaven. Thank you so much for making my day. Added note: they have traditional snacks that are amazing!! read more

I really like their ice cream. What's awesome is that it's all made at the store so the flavors are authentic. We'll definitely be back.

Alegre Ice Cream - Banana split with strawberry, vanilla, and dulce de leche ice cream, whip cream, pecans, and chocolate syrup - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - El Paso, Texas

I had heard many good things about this place, so I decided to give it a try. The variety was decent. The young lady working was courteous, but not very helpful or friendly. Regardless, I was so excited to eat my pick of ice cream. My selection was a cup of vanilla with brownie pieces. I was soooo disappointed. First, it it was not creamy at all. I seriously doubt there was any milk or cream of any type....more like it was mixed with water. Secondly, it tasted like refrigerator. It seemed like it had been there forever. Finally, it just tasted bad. I ended throwing it away. The only thing that was yummy was the vanilla wafer than came with my ice cream, and the store bought Mexican candies they sell at the counter. I have no plans to return...ever! I definitely do not recommend. read more

So coming from south Florida I expected more quality in everything in El Paso.. I came to this ice cream shop after reading all the reviews. My daughter had strawberry ice cream with sprinkles, I had the corn in a cup. Omg what a big mistake... I didn't get corn in a cup I received a soup of corn in a cup, the corn was not cooked right, the color of the corn was almost white with no flavor.. Service was ehhh the two people working were not ashamed of talking about their private life out loud! Never again. read more

Just had a Caramel Popsicle!!! OMG, where do they come up with this flavors!

The natural strawberries with cream are my favorite, I could eat that all day. The papas locas are awsome. The ice cream is amazing and I don't even like ice cream. I recommend the 3 leches ice cream. Everything is definitely homemade!!! What is sort of eeehh is the corn in the cup, it needs more flavor or butter. Overall loveeee it, will always be their client :) and everyone else I know that knows about alegre love it too read more
