Some heat from something - but no salt or other spices. The mismatch was what was striking. When reading the menu, it seemed we were going to have a terrific dinner. It might be tucked inside a gas station, but don't let that fool you. The food is legit. I ordered one of their burgers (spicy chicken) and it was stacked with flavor -- fresh veggies, grilled onions, and perfectly toasted sour dough bread. Every bite was awesome. The steak fries on the side were super tasty too. And my friends had curly fries, which were crispy and addicting. I definitely liked those more. They also had 2 house sauce bottles on the table that took things to another level -- definitely try it if you go. The vibes were relaxed and the staff was really friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Flavors were good, I had just hoped the patty fit the bun a little better. The ratio was a bit more bun sided than oatty sided. My fries, crinkle cut, were seasoned well. Well enough that no ketchup was needed to dip them into for additional flavor. I would have liked a bit more crispiness from a double fry, but these were toothy enough to get a decent mouth feel. The meal for the three of is was about 47.00, so inflation has also hit my hometown dining places as bad as they have hit my current home near The Woodlands. When we arrived, we seated ourselves outside, where there was only one other group present. Despite the patio being very small and the waitress coming in and out several times, we were never acknowledged or approached. After waiting for some time, I went inside and spoke with the owner, Adolf. He came out to our table and briefly discussed menu options with us. I asked specifically about the fish and chips, as we were told some dishes were no longer available due to an earlier rush. He said he would go check on that for me--but he never returned. Fifteen minutes later, we still had not received any service. When the waitress came back onto the patio again, I called her over and asked when we might be helped. She told me she "did not see us there," which I found difficult to believe given the size of the patio. After that interaction, she did not return to take our order. I went back inside and spoke with the owner again, this time clearly frustrated. He looked me directly in the eyes, raised both hands, and said, "You can calm down now." He repeated it in a tone that felt condescending and dismissive. I responded, "Thank you for giving me permission to calm down," and at that point, I turned around, walked out, and left with my friend to dine elsewhere. I cannot comment on the quality of the food because we were never served. I can comment on the service, which was extremely poor. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the service a zero. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to The Velvet Quarter.
