There is an impressive ongoing book sale collection in between stacks with lots of hardcovers plus some other book nooks too including one in the lobby for free books as well. In the children's room, check out that artificial dinosaur which is pretty neat. Library staff are all nice people here. There are wonderful events going on here throughout the year. As an added bonus, there is a garden or two outside the front of the library building. Come in during the spring for blooming flowers and more. It is such a beautiful library in the heart of the community that is just nearby downtown center of Killingly-Danielson.

A very pleasant environment to read or attend lectures or programs even if the library doesn't have any real historical charm to it. The building is much larger than it looks on the outside and has several different rooms including cool little places for kids and teens and a great local history and genealogy section. Lots of places to sit and just relax in a very comfy setting. Everyone in the library is friendly and Killingly is one of those libraries that always seems to have programs , lectures and displays. A nice community room is available to everyone and a book sale is going on continuously to help raise money to maintain the library. Lots to do even if you don't want a specific book. Killingly is a pleasant town with lots of gardens that also has a very nice library. I don't think that Marcus Cicero was thinking of Killingly when two thousand years ago he said "When you have a garden and a library you have everything", but if he ever saw Killingly he just might have thought it.

I started visiting here during the pandemic which means that despite my using their services with some frequency, I've only ever really walked in the first 10 feet of this establishment a handful of times. For the most part, I utilize the Ocean State Libraries online database to request delivery of books to this location. In the beginning, I utilized their curbside/contactless pickup which was ever so easy and convenient. I could grab and go and do the same when it was time to drop what I borrowed back off. Since then, I have interacted with the front desk staff for pickups (masks required). Everyone that works there has been incredibly nice. Even when I walk in 10 minutes before closing to grab a book that has arrived for me. I'm always in and out in just a couple minutes. Their website is easy to use and advertises all the in-person and online offerings they have running.

A school house to a…read more library. The Louttit library is the main library in the town of West Greenwich but actually started life as a one room school house. A simple place built in 1936 with no running water or central heat. There were four of these one room school houses in town that finally closed in 1950 when a more modern facility was opened. Since the town didn't have a real library it was decided to use one of the schools for this purpose so the diminutive building was rededicated as a library in 1951. The Louttit family, who donated money for the project, decided that the library would be more useful in the center of town so it was moved to it's present location in 1978. Of course now the building has running water and central heat and all the things a modern library has. In fact it has grown quite a bit since it's humble origins. The library was expanded in 1988, 1992 and then again in 1998and now is a sprawling building with a great community room and other additions that add greatly to it's volume and use. Even though the library is much different from the original schoolhouse, if you look carefully you can still see remnants of the past. Coat hooks and blackboards still exist and a great old bell that still rings is in the tower. Pretty cool stuff. The best part of our visit to this library was meeting the director, Elsie Palmgren Oltedale. She graciously took us around on a tour of the library and explained all the modifications of the building and discussed the history with us. She actually went to school at the old schoolhouse and talked about how life was back then. She is responsible for the progress and growth of the new library and has the new community room named after her. Definitely a deserving honor because Elsie epitomizes everything good about a library and a librarian. The Louttit Library is a useful and modern facility that hasn't lost it's history or roots. It's a great place to read or to just walk around and absorb the history of the building. As pleasant as seeing the library was the real treat was meeting and talking to Elsie. Librarians just don't get any more wonderful than her.

Jonathan Trumbull Library - Newly renovated building. Reopened in August 2022

The library reopened on August 20, 2022 after relocation in temporary setting for over a year amid renovation. The remodel project included the facelift of the building, new foyer, new layouts for adult and children's departments, and new Teen / Young Adult room. In addition, Children's Department went from plain boring room (pre-Covid) to that sparkling enlarged room for kids. The meeting / program room relocated from downstairs to the foyer area past the front entrance. Approx. 85% of all library occupation is different from my first trip to Lebanon in 2019. Just imagine what this library looked like pre-remodel. I can't believe that literally everything has changed in the library since the early days of COVID. Stepping foot in that library today isn't the same as old glory when bookshelves were crammed, carpets were outdated, boring paint and an outdated building that was in dire need of expansion for many years. In present times, you're going to see almost everything anew here: Sienna marble building, carpets, bookshelves, paint, Teen room, more portraits, you name it. Gone are the old wall mural of the John Trumbull dynasty and an older exterior layout that once reflected the origins of that building when it was originally occupied as a schoolhouse (?). I don't believe that library was in that same building a century ago. I heard about that history some years ago. I don't have any further details to tell you about it. P.S. I visited that library on Saturday afternoon (10/29/22). I originally visited that property back in July 2019 (pre-remodel) and things were mostly different in and out.

The upstairs was used as dormitory space, and the restoration retained much of the beautiful woodwork. The upstairs served as a lovely library while the bottom floor was an elementary school house. The arraignment lasted for almost 50 years until the town decided to get rid of the 15 little one room school houses and consolidated them into one large regionial school. So the school left and the library expanded into the entire building. Most of the library is now on the first floor and the higher level is a grand room with absolutely stunning widows. cool old photos and lots of busts of old dead guys. The library is lovely in an odd sort of way. Very square and symmetrical, the huge granite blocks look like that will last forever. Not as elaborate as many other libraries but it definitely looks solid and two cool lion statues guard the entrance. The inside is a different story. The first floor has the books and usual library stuff along with a very pleasant librarian but a trip upstairs is what really amazes. A huge open hall with stunning windows and ceiling and cool stuff whenever you look. A few old books are up there but it's most open space. I suspect they use the area for lectures and concerts. The library had some major renovation in 1992 and is a useful and practical facility. But it's the buildings uniqueness that makes it so cool. There are no other library that look quite like this one.
