This library is literally like stepping back in time.
I stopped in here on a Saturday morning only because I needed to use the bathroom (which is in the basement, accessed by a narrow staircase).
Reading the two other Yelp reviews, I think the first reviewer summed it up nicely: "... a cozy place to read a book". It's extremely quiet, because it's not that busy. The only evidence of modern technology for patrons were two laptop computers on a table. Besides that, it's mostly good, old-fashioned books, and a small room of DVDs.
Book selection is very small, since the building is downright tiny to begin with. Even so, there was a lot of empty space on the stacks. A few chairs and tables are scattered throughout both floors.
Although the building is around 100 years old, according to one of the librarians, the interior and exterior are rather plain, and lack ornate architectural details typical of older buildings. The HVAC systems are rather primitive. At least two of the cast-iron radiators were shut down due to cracks in the radiators (according to signs posted). The upper floor was a bit hot, as the building relies on window-mounted air conditioners for cooling.
Obviously, for any serious research, or if one were looking for a particular book title, the main library branch would be a better bet. But, if you're just looking to browse a few books or spend some time reading in a quaint place, come here. This would also be a good place to hide out, come to think of it .... read more
