Recently had my follow up with Dr Brown. About a week before…read morethe apt, his secratary calls to let you know you have blood work to go get done. They check for everything! At the apt, he goes over every possible blood test and indcators of your health. It is like a "State of the Union" for your body. He tells you the normal ranges and helps you understand where your numbers lie. He then helps you understand why certain numbers are high or low, because of your diet, lifeystyle, or other factors. After that, he comes up with a number of solutions to help get you in the healthy ranges you should be in. Usually by natural means- One thing he recommended to me was Omega Fish Oil and Cod Liver Oil. Find the right brand, and they actually taste delicious. I recommend Dr Brown to anyone! Health or Sick! He helps you understand your body and his full dose of bloodwork every few months helps ensure nothing sneaks up on you.

I was able to be seen very quickly to address my medical concerns. He offered a treatment (infusions of Krystexxa) that was safe for my kidneys while also effectively treating my gout. Reviewing a doctor is so personal, but Dr. Brand really gets it. I started seeing him a few years…read moreago on a recommendation from my sister (who's a nurse & also has hypochondriac tendencies) and I'm extremely grateful. I have a little bit of "doctor phobia" and both the staff & the doctor are super kind & understanding. I rarely have to wait past my appointment time and am often seen a few minutes early. Exams have been comprehensive and Dr. Brand is thorough in explaining things & answering questions. What really sets him apart, IMO, is the personal touch. The day after my appointments, I get a call from him to personally review my results. Just last week, I had my first mammogram (yay for turning 40...) and I had a call with the results just THREE hours later. Does your doctor do this? If the answer is "no" you might want to ask, "why not?"

I've seen a variety of doctors here, my primary being Dr. Russel Blankenburg who has also been the…read morephysician for my Stepmom and Grandma. The appointments are on time, the staff are friendly, and the facility is always clean! There is a Lab/X-ray center on the same floor (it shares a waiting room) which is extremely convenient if your doctor orders any tests. There has only been one occasion I had to go to a separate facility, but that was for a unique blood test. An advantage to the Wheaton system is they offer online scheduling, emailing with your doctor, prescription refill request, etc. through a program called "MyChart". I work weird hours, so this has been especially helpful for managing things I don't have time for during regular business hours. Also, I've been able to get results faster on my own without having to come to the office.

There are several different clinics in this facility, including a walk-in clinic. This particular…read morereview (our 450th review) is for the Cardio/Pulmanary Rehabilitation program. First of all, one doesn't just walk in off the street and join in, we have to be referred by a physician. Our cardiologist sent us here after a procedure a few weeks ago. After an orientation, we were shown the gym, equipped with modern equipment, free weights, isometric ribbons and other tools. Machines range from low impact cross-trainers to weight machines. There are several treadmills and a 132 foot walking track. (That means 40 laps makes a mile.) Each of us is fitted with a telemetry unit that monitors our heart rates in a central location. Each patient's weight, blood pressure, oxygenation and heart rates are closely monitored throughout the session. Cleanliness is job one, we all wash our hands several times during a session. We wipe down all equipment with sanitation sheets when we complete our reps. There are locker rooms and a shower. Most of us carry in exercise clothes and shoes to take advantage of the locker room. The staff is professional and they all obviously enjoy their work. They are sincerely dedicated to our health and our hearts' rehabilitation. There is also a level of camaraderie here because everyone is here for the same reason. As the song from "Damn Yankees" says, "Ya Gotta Have Heart!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry8CpIg2fvU
