To be honest, I was quite surprised that Bari had such good ratings on Yelp, but then again I only…read morewent there once. The location in the shambles is great and it is fun to have such original ambiances (English outside - Italian inside) next to each other. The service was quick, friendly and helpful, so no issues there. However, what struck me the most was the quality of the food, which was in no relation to the price (I guess you pay for the shambles experience anyway and since I am not a tourist, I just don't appreciate it as much). I had pasta rigatoni with peas and tomato sauce. The peas were obviously out of a can, over cooked and everything but fresh. The sauce was runny and tasteless. The pasta was way to soft. So I think the whole dish had been reheated after sitting in the kitchen for too long and the ingredients were not good enough to make up for it. After reading a few reviews here, I might actually go back and give it another try.

No horses head in mine or my friends beds though you'll be relieved to know. Instead I need some authentic Italian cuisine and Prego is a calling. It's a smart package this eatery with stone walls and modern décor. Just what the Godfather ordered. Armed with several friends I could feel my group doing this menu some justice and we certainly did. First up the starters. Superb. They've got loads of anti-pasta type dishes and more different breads than Elisabeth Taylor has had husbands. Gorgeous and fresh baked with a variety of toppings and seasonings. After eating my own body weight in yeast based products I went for some Gnocchi as a main after threatening to have it for ages now and I wasn't disappointed. The pizzas were also beautifully done and looking at how quickly my fellow foodie consumed her pasta I can safely say it was a storming success. It's not that pricy either so we even made room for a cheeky pudding of the calorie splurging variety and a coffee. The Godfather would indeed be impressed.

Stuzzi is a too-good-to-be-true trifecta of wonderful food, excellent service, and reasonable pricing. The menu is small sharing plates, as many places are these days. With a group of four we got to have quite a lot of that menu. The tagliatelle in ox cheek ragu was a marvel of simplicity. The arancini completely changed my mind about a dish I've always considered an overrated way for a restaurant to dispose of extra risotto. The wine and cheese were superb, chosen for us by the charming wait staff. The digestif menu features a small but punchy selection of grappas -- never a given at British Italian restaurants and always appreciated by me.

They also have a nice selection of Italian deli bits and bobs for you to take away with you. We found some of the charcuterie and cheese impossible to resist. The idea is to order a few tapas sized portions of various dishes and then mix and match with your eating partners - and it works a treat. Not quite full? Order something else - the kitchen is efficient and we have never waited too long. Now that we are semi-regulars the staff have got to know us to some extent. I am very much into my wine and I take some care when ordering a bottle any place I go. At Stuzzi when they ask me what I want to drink I now just ask them to 'bring me something interesting' and that is exactly what they do. They have never let me down. Every time the wine that arrives at the table is well selected - delicious and not unreasonably priced. This is a restaurant that wants people to enjoy the wines on offer so the prices are sensible - in so many places these days the price of a decent bottle is ridiculous, but here you will find the opposite. If you want fine dining and silver service that's not what this place is about. It's too laid back for that and it's now what they set out to do. Instead you are served excellent food in an unhurried environment, and that vibe always seems to be found at every table. Fun, tasty, easy.

Having perused the menu and always in search of decent burger, we booked a table effortlessly over the Internet. The restaurant itself is at the base of the Kimberley Hotel, with sport being shown on various TVs dotted around, but it never intruded on the dining area. The décor was modern, but comfortable, with various pieces of striking artwork adorning the walls. We were shown straight to our booth type table by a helpful member of staff, and whilst we chose from what is a copious menu, the friendly owner, proudly explained each one of the burgers. His enthusiasm for his creations was impressive. Burgers ranged from plain, to ones adorned with onion bhajis, and a 'New Yorker' which was a burger sandwiched between two pancakes dressed with maple syrup! So much choice; as well as burgers, they are famed locally for their pizzas too. You could even have a plate three smaller burgers or three smaller pizzas, if you struggled to make a firm choice. If you were feeling particularly ravenous you could have stacks of numerous burgers from 2 to 5, each having a name like 'Blackpool Tower' and 'The Shard'. Suffering from quite a heavy cold, which was annoyingly suppressing my appetite, I plumped for the 'Black Beauty', a burger with black pudding inside it, I know it sounds wrong, but it was delicious and the accompanying crisp fries and dressed salad, complemented the meal perfectly. What I did like about Burgers & More though, as well as the impressive service was that my wife, not being a huge burger fan, just fancied egg and chips, which although was not on the menu, was made for her without any fuss. I was very impressed and I will return to sample more of the menu, hopefully when my appetite has returned!
