This historic location was a rest and play stop for literary and theater New Yorkers in the 20s and 30s and probably beyond -- check out the famous signatures and notes in the albums in the main living room. The owners keep a handful of rescued farm animals (pot-bellied pigs, mini ponies, goats), and it is clear they are well cared for. It is a busy place for big wedding events now, and so we like to stay during the week. It is very relaxing to walk around the grounds. We saw a giant heron in the pond and deer strolling. There are so many nice places to sit outside with a bottle of wine and a book or snacks. Rooms are very unique and comfortable. You have a lot of different personalities to choose from: lofts, cabins, barn spaces, etc. Many have jacuzzis which can provide your evening entertainment, lol. We have not eaten in the restaurant because our top restaurant on earth is very close by, but when it was closed, Josh gave us great recommendations. And he made a lovely tofu scramble for breakfast as a special request. One sweet touch: despite checking the room, we left without my spouse's expensive phone charger. Housekeeping found it and ran after us before we could drive off without it. She did not have to do that. Always tip your housekeeping staff. The extended Covid months have been very hard on inns, restaurants, and event spaces, and it must be stressful for them as things come back to life when so many events have been postponed. It is wonderful to be back out again. We will return -- a lot.

The Barley Sheaf is very serious about pandemic precautions, so masks are in full effect, and they'll walk you to your socially-distanced table in a beautiful, outdoor gardening setting. The inn itself is an architectural delight, as well, so you are surrounded by beauty on all sides. Service was pleasant and forthcoming. I wouldn't say that this is the finest level of dining, of course, you're not expecting EMP in the middle of Bucks County, but this is a good attempt, and people are pleasant and quite dignified. The guests were all well attired and the crowd is polite and kind. Food is of the adventurous character, which I enjoy. A lot of different flavor combinations (they like to do salé and sucré), beautiful plating, interesting textures, and good cooking techniques. My favorites were the octopus appetizer (so buttery soft and tender, which is a rarity) and the pheasant special, which was a pleasant and apropos surprise in this outdoor, country setting. Finally, this is a BYOB restaurant with perfectly selected wine glasses, fine silverware, and other special touches such as a freshly starched linens, etc. which elevate the dining experience.

I suppose if it was raining they would have moved the ceremony to the outside covered area, but we were lucky with great weather. The only awkward distraction during the ceremony was somebody taking shooting practice out in the distance which echoed in the air. The facility is a beautiful old three-story building. There's a little waterfall running along side it, and some cute Pennsylvania charm. The ground level has a beer wall which includes multiple taps and you sign out a little fob that allows you to keep track of what you ordered. Upstairs in the main level is perfect for small weddings probably no more than 75 people. We had a lot of room in the middle so we could dance. There's a mezzanine above it with more seating areas. I believe they are open regularly for the beer wall, and in fact there were some locals there. But the rest of the place was not like a typical restaurant. It must just be private events. For accessibility, was a golf cart used to take some folks from the grass up to the top floor through the parking lot. because I was at a wedding, the food was through a private caterer. But they had their own beer and a couple wines on the wall downstairs that are there all the time and that was pretty popular. The staff was very nice.

My event occurred in July and I felt I had to wait to post my review for many reasons but at this…read moretime needs to be said. I don't recommend this location for so many reasons. One of the biggest things I will point out, Jessica has zero, zero communication with her team (photographer, DJ, cake decorator and even staff about clients expectations) that was very apparent at our event. Biggest proof - image of cake sent to Jessica as a sample was pink and gold, our color scheme was purple black and gold. Our cake was made PINK and gold!! So much to say but not enough space here. I had siblings and even my children come and tell me staff were rude. One instance was when guest weren't allowed out of the main room. I went to a girl specifically and spoke to her in Spanish and asked her WHY, because when my guest would ask her she wouldn't speak to them in English. I had several guest complain that staff were rude or didn't speak English and made NO effort to help guest with the excuse of not knowing English. I don't have an issue with not knowing English but I have an issue with being rude or not being helpful in this type of industry. If you don't understand what guests are asking hey someone who can help. I didn't not see nor know about Jessica until late in the evening. She knew I was upset her staff throughout the night knew I was upset about things YET at no time did any of them come to find out what was wrong or how things could be remedied. At the end of the night when we were getting our personal items, there were empty boxes left over. Jessica was so rude and told us we needed to take out empty boxes with us!! Essentially we had to take out trash with us. You're going to tell me you don't have dumpsters there!! The decor was nice BUT it wasn't what our expectations were. Again due to lack of communication, out silhouette dance was horrible!! Could not be seen what was happening, because the big frame was out in front of the curtains. If I would have been told that was going to be there we would have done the presentation differently all I was told was the curtains would be there and the "x" to step on. Tables, the way we were explained or made to think, the Quinceñeras table for her and her court would be a special table. Not only was her table exactly like everyone else's it was setup where guests could NOT see her!! My final take is this.... that because I didn't spend $20-30,000 I wasn't given the top notch service we were expecting. IF I would have been told based on my $10,300 bill I was going to get a basic setup I wouldn't have had SUCH high expectations. Instead no we were constantly told everything was going to be awesome. Lastly due to to many issues. Due to me being upset and things not being what we expected my daughter cried at her table. This alone broke my heart to know my daughter had cried on her day!! Thank goodness I was not made aware that this happened until the next day because I don't know how I would have reacted that night. In the end I was sooo Disappointed. I has such HIGH expectations, not only because of what was always presented on social media for this location BUT because I have known the owner and of her work for so long. I NEVER even considered going elsewhere for this event BECAUSE of the high expectations and what we thought was such wonderful work. Sadly I cannot say I will ever give a recommendation. Not unless they plan on spending $25,000-$30,000 and even then can't believe you would get top notch service. To this date NO effort was made to enquire about my disappointment, if anything I was met with rudeness and attitude at the end of the night. So sorry I won't recommend this event venue ever.

I'm writing the review based on my experience and on behalf on the hosts of the event …read more The decor was beautiful but according to the hosts, it was missing some finishing touches that were discussed. The food was mediocre. The chicken was burnt and dry, the salmon was thin and tiny pieces. Steak was also mediocre compared to the tasting. According to the hosts, the food at the tasting was NOT the same food that was served at the event. They said the food at the tasting was way better and if it wasn't up to par then other food or another event space would've been used. Extra money was paid for green beans but it didn't come out until later when everyone had their dinner already. There was supposed to be fog/smoke used but it wasn't used. Extra money was paid for a Champagne Wall but the glasses were filled with juice instead of champagne. They said juice was used to avoid underage drinking. While we appreciate that concern, we should've been told ahead of time that juice would be used. A " champagne " wall was agreed on, NOT a JUICE wall. Also there's only 1 bathroom for the ladies' room so keep that in mind. The best part of this event was the open bar. This place has a lot of potential but needs to work on their communication skills.

Bed and pillows were so comfy and I enjoyed the large bathtub. Unfortunately I don't recommend food options in this area. Go to new hope or Lambertville NJ. The dinner at the hotel was really not good especially for the price but the views and ambiance were lovely. The breakfast at the next door market was also quite poor quality. Hotel feedback: it would be nice to offer bath salts or bubbles. It would be a game changer to offer a full English breakfast at the restaurant for hotel guests. I tried to have keurig coffee since I didn't like the market coffee but the machine was very dirty which turned me off completely.

The presentation of the food was class A as you can tell from the photos that I added. We had a cheese plate for an appetizer that was generous and all of the cheese was quite tasty. For an entree, I had the St. Charleston Meeting Street Crab. It was perfect The chunk crab was perfectly cooked in a cream sauce with an au gratin sauce. It was both presented well and quite tasty. This dish by itself would be 5 stars. The staff was attentive but not overly so. Everyone was friendly and quite willing to engage in light banter. The staff would also get 5 stars. The only reason that I gave this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 was dessert. I usually stay on a low carb diet but I decided to treat myself to a dessert for this occasion. I ordered the "Warm Apple Tart." Unfortunately, it was not warm and the apples were pretty much flavorless. I would not order this dessert again. The bottom line is the Black Bass Hotel is a solid choice and the atmosphere cannot be beat if you get a riverside table. The portions are generous and the food is quite good. We will definitely be back.

We attended a wedding and everything was just so lovely! We walked in to see a round table with romantic candles and pretty blooms in the brides colors at the entrance. We then headed straight for cocktail hour which included an area for the food, a bar area, as well as bistro tables around a beautiful fountain in a partially open air space. There was plenty of room to spread out and there was never a long line at the bar which always seems to be an issue at weddings. They did indeed serve champs from the bar which is sometimes a rarity, but much appreciated by my hubby and me. The food for cocktail hour was plated stations and included a Philly Love statue ice sculpture with decent sized shrimp. Crab stuffed mushrooms, buffalo chicken, Stromboli, and sausage meatballs were some of the items hubs noshed on and enjoyed. The ballroom was so gorgeous with soft drapery around the dance floor which had the couples names projected onto it. The mood was super romantic and the floral arrangements were just beautiful. It was darker with uplighting and lots of votives. The ambiance was just so, so very right. The cake was also beautiful, and decorated with the same fresh roses found in the centerpieces. It was cut traditionally by the couple but given in wrapped to go slices as we exited. I hear it was pretty delicious. The cake table was set so beautifully with a sequin tablecloth, and more fresh flowers. The food was served buffet style with a plated starter salad. Stuffed chicken, salmon, penne primavera, green beans, incredible roasted potatoes, mixed veggies, and carving stations. Cold salads such as tomato, potato and tortellini were there also as well as olives and fresh rolls. Dessert was served in the same fashion and included everything you could possibly want....tiramisu, carrot cake, strawberry shortcake, mini cannoli, mini fruit tarts. I could go on and on. Impressive. The staff was wonderful and had much personality. We had a truly fantastic evening here! I never knew this place existed and I would definitely recommend it for brides in this area. The event group also owns 7 other locations.
