I think Aldi is going to be my new years go to grocery market because the deals and prices were so much more reasonable then the normal bigger name brand grocers I go to. As I'm trying to focus on getting Whole Foods (protein, veggies, dairy, and fruits) I needed to find a new store where I could get super good deals on produce and meats. After watching a lot of dietician videos and social media posts - seemed like a lot of people were hyping up Aldi. Came to this Thousand Oaks location over the weekend and I was very impressed. Located in the Janns marketplace it's a busier center but at least they have a lot of parking spots. I came around 11:30am which isn't late but now having explored, I think it's smart to come at opening as a lot of the meats and produce get picked over right away in the AM. I will say the prices were super good! My fruits and veggies were half the cost of my local markets and definitely cheaper then my farmers market (still will support farmers markets) but when money is tight and your doubling up on berries and veggies, this was a helpful cost reducer. Same with the meats - got two ribeyes for $17. That's normally close the price for one when I got to Ralph's, Traders or Target. The prices can't be beat. Walked out with two hug grocery bags for $120. Those bags were loaded with meats and protein though so the cost was really good. The reason I rated 4 stars are similar to other reviews. They do seem to only have one person working the register, which I feel like two would be much more helpful, especially on a weekend. I guess this is how they keep cost down, but you do get a long line to check out. Also, as I mentioned by them not having a lot of staff, I don't feel like the ingredients are regularly being rotated or stocked. Even though I came before 12 PM on a weekend, the steaks and meat section were pretty bare and I didn't see any staff really working the floor that anything new would be coming out so I had to take what I could get knowing I was probably missing out. Also, while the produce section was extremely reasonably priced, I did find that there were vegetables and fruit with mold, or that did not look the freshest. I definitely had to sift through that section most carefully. For the prices, I'll still definitely be buying my produce here, but if I do want items that are fresher and straight from the farm, that's definitely why I recommend sticking to your Farmers market. Given the value, I'll definitely be coming back and it's nice to know I can buy at least 70% of my groceries here. read more

By far, one of the weakest Aldi branches, hence that multiple negative reviews. The customer service is the weakest point most of the time you don't find anyone and in the few times you do they're extremely unhelpful and on the rude side , I had a very negative experience with the cashier, I can't remember his name, but he had multiple tattoos in his neck. Although some of their products are good, most of the time the shelves are half empty. It's one of those stores , where no one cares, definitely needs more stronger, managerial influence. An ALDI can be a few cents cheaper but the service and selections are worse than other stores. Service: 0 stars, None, there is a cashier and the rest of the people are hiding in the back Selection: stagnant Quality: poor. 1 star They have very bad quality products. Management: 0 stars , they decided as a surprise to close the store for 1/2 a day so that they can move products around so that people walk around more and make impulsive purchases. Well, they could not even do this in an organized manner. See photos of the homemade signs( posted last minute) Do you want to carry a quarter to get a cart, bag your own groceries, and buy poor unhealthy products then go right ahead and shop here. Otherwise go to Trader Joes. Oh yea, learn to plan. Let this store close, there are plenty of better places to shop that have great prices. read more

When Fresh & Easy was closed down in 2015-16, we were wondering what other similar cheap & reliable grocery stores would come to SoCal? The answer is Aldi, a German 1 of many chain stores. We are glad it did. Here, 1 may buy groceries of most essential items, vegetables, meats, cereals, dairy, and frozen items. Historically, this was our go-to for eggs and meat. However, after 2020 pandemic, the eggs are no longer cheap but very comparable to other grocery stores. Vegetables are the cheaper items besides breads & bagels available in this store we will always buy. Lines may be long when you check out since most the time, only one checkout line is available. Also not convenient thing is the fact that the buyer must bring a quarter in order to use its shopping cart, making it impossible for frail & handicapped shoppers to check-in & check-out the shopping carts easily. If you forget to bring a quarter, it will be tough luck since it will be hard to exchange a dollar bill for quarters at the register cash since it is always busy! I also notice, shoppers are mostly on their own since not many Aldi personnel are seen available at one time during my visit there. The store is well lit, well maintained, and clean. The cash register personnel is friendly and welcoming. I do highly recommend to shop here if you are bargain & budget shoppers like myself, with the caveat of always bringing a quarter with you if you want to use their shopping cart. read more

Whenever I go to Europe, I shop at Aldi. I was pleasantly surprised to see this grocery store in California. The prices are very reasonable on most items. The cashiers are super nice and friendly. Most of the time the aisles are clear and the shelves are stocked. I enjoy their seasonal items. read more

Aldi has fabulous meats at decent prices. I make Vietnamese caramel pork belly frequently. Now I do not have to drive to the valley to get this product. I also love their fish: the salmon (any version) and trout is wonderful! I love the aisle of various household goods! Employees are great too. So thankful they are here in TO. read more

As I walked up to the entrance, I noticed the grocery carts chained together so I entered the store to inquire how to unlock a cart. The cashier handed me a quarter, told me to insert it into the slot on the cart which would automatically release the cart. Sure enough, it worked and I very quickly understood the need for this set up to minimize theft. The aisles are wide and the store is very clean. There is no deli counter, no butcher or a fresh bakery. The produce section had some organics and the prices were less than at a regular grocery store. There was a fair amount of frozen food as well as a case of frozen turkeys. I felt as thought I was in a dollar tree as there was a little of this and a little of that with random order. Lawn chairs were close to the water while another aisle had a small section of household items. Other than one cashier, I did not see any employees stocking the shelves or available to answer any questions. As I was leaving, I noticed another shopper trying to release a cart, so I handed her my quarter and explained the system. Parking is readily available in the lot out front. read more

On Tuesday, 6/23/25 I purchased an Aldi Brand Frozen Pizza. My kid would not eat it because the cheese would not stay on the crust. I returned it on 6/24/25 with my receipt. The cashier would only do a refund and would not give a replacement . I thought all Aldi's follicle same policy. Ahhhhh I just love when stores are... BRAND SPANKING NEW!!! Everything is clean, organized and ready to be shopped! As I was driving by earlier this week, I saw that a brand new Aldi was in town and I decided to check them out today. They opened this Monday (12/14/2020) and are located at the Jann's Marketplace off Moorpark and Hillcrest. I have only been to Aldi once before at their Simi Valley location and decided to see what this one was all about. It's basically a smaller grocery store with a mix of brand name product that we all know (Coca Cola, Sriracha, Gatorade, etc.) alongside off-brands of product that look similar to the names we know, but at more reasonable price point. This store encompasses everything you probably need to survive in the kitchen, from fresh produce that looks better than some of the major grocery retailers to fresh dairy, beef, poultry and pork. The aisles have all of the staples, from bread and baking supplies, to pantry spices and canned foods, they have it all. The frozen department is full of goodies, they even have an area in the store for meals ready-to-go. Looking for some different styles of wine or beer, well Aldi has you covered. I really enjoyed walking down the aisles that have product labeled, "Here Today* Gone Tomorrow". Lots of great last minute gift ideas especially as we are heading into the last few days before Christmas. This is a brand new Aldi in TO located in the Janss Marketplace across from Ulta. I've shopped at Aldi before in Oxnard and I feel like it's a hidden gem lol Pros: +Great prices on EVERYTHING (I even bought a 2-pack turtleneck long sleeve shirts here for $15 which was better than Target LOL) +Lots of organic products Neutral: ~Lots of random brand names that aren't found commonly in other grocery stores so it's kinda like the store's own brands Cons: -All the shopping carts are locked up and you need a get a quarter to unlock (I overheard this from a nearby customer and I didn't wanna hassle with that so I hauled all my goods in my reusable bag LOL) Overall, it's like a knock off of Trader Joe's but it's honestly not too shabby. read more

The service is terrible. I brought my own reusable tote, which is rectangular and sturdy. At check out, I emptied my items onto the belt and conveniently placed the tote on the cart where the cashier would place the items after scanning them. Instead, she moved my tote and started whipping my items onto the cart, letting them fall all over the place (we're talking tuna packets, so they slide right out of the shopping cart). I said, kindly, "if it's not too much trouble, could place them in the tote?" She said. "Oh." And then whipped the tuna packets past the tote and onto the ground. No apology. This soured my experience with Aldi, and I should've just saved gas and shopped at the nearby Target instead of driving out of my way just to be treated poorly. Aldi, do way better. Welcome to California, and people -- get ready for an invasion.  Sprouting up everywhere is the international Aldi Market chain.  Over 1,500 US stores across 32 states, a recent press release says it serves more than 30 million customers each month.  Wow.  But it didn't start in the US, and it's all across Europe, too -- nearly 10,000 stores worldwide.  That's what we call a "player". Founded in Germany, I expected a lot more German products.  There were some, but none of the brands I've come to love.  In fact, very few brands I've ever heard of.  Most of the products carried are their own brand.  There's no butcher, or bakery.  Boo, one star demerit. First time at this location. The prices and quality of the produce were good. But what we couldn't get over was the reeking smell of urine! It hit us the minute we walked in the door. My son later had to use the bathroom and I nearly died from the smell. Not sure how much I want cheap prices if I have to take a hot shower a la silkwood style every time after. Everyone who worked there seemed pleasant. I felt so bad for them having to put up with working conditions like that all day. I really hope this was a one off and not the norm or we won't be going back. read more

I actually like shopping here but it's very frustrating because it seems that they are running a bait and switch operation. Every week they put out an ad featuring a really good price on some kind of meat or fish stating that it's good for two days, or "while supplies last". They then have run out early the first day. However, they do have a similar item for a higher price. This has happened so many times that we're giving up on Aldi's. read more

This store is as if a corner market met a garage sale and they fell in love and had a child, then named it "ALDI". You really have to take your time to see all they offer because it is merchandised so randomly. A friend told me they carried frozen pre-breaded Schnitzel that you simply fry in a bit of oil and she said it was quite good. I found it, along with many other German items that aren't necessarily easy to find elsewhere. German chocolates, frozen pretzels, coffee, Braunschweiger, and several mustards. We liked the schnitzel, and I also bought sweet potatoes. Though only one register was open, the clerk was fast, friendly and efficient, even when his line was 10 people deep. I saw no other employees during my 20 minute shopping visit, however I do understand most businesses are scarce on help these days. Pack your patience before you go. It was an experience. The private label food products are good quality. The service leaves much to be desired. Cashiers are non-communicative and sometimes rude. They refuse to place scanned items in my bag, even though I hold it open for them to place the items quickly. Typically, only one cashier, causing long waits. Your 'cousins' at Trader Joes, by contrast, really do it right! read more

I honestly don't see any reason to shop in this store. The staff are not particularly friendly or helpful and in fact the cashier (Francisco) was outright rude and offensive. It felt like shopping in a flea market. Yes, it's clean and new, but most everything is a unknown brand and lots of low-to-mediocre quality items. I only shopped there once and left feeling very disappointed. I shop a lot and tend to look for a better experience than I had at Aldi. read more

ALDI is a discount grocery chain that started in Germany in 1948. My kids always shop there in Chicago. When I noticed the opening of Aldi in TO, I wanted to try. The location is great, it locates at the Janss Marketplace, next door of Karma India restaurant. The store is very clean, organized. Supply all the cooking necessities. I went there this morning 9am when the store opened. The shopping carts need a quarter to get off the chain, then return the money when the cart was reconnected the chain with the front cart. It's easy to manage. I love the idea to use quarter to use the cart, which make the parking place free of shopping carts. I also like the long tables at the store front that we can bag our purchase after checking out. They charge 10 cents for each bag, which is located at the check out place that customers can pick the exact amount of bags they need. The store reminds me the "Fresh and Easy" stores, my favorite neighborhood grocery store. All items priced reasonably. I hope the store doing well, especially during the tough period. read more

Love this grocery store! With inflation running rampant, this is the solution to high food costs. Their produce is delicious but needs to be consumed in the next few days. This is how they hold down costs. They have fun products outside of groceries, keep stopping by to check them out. Milk, bread, meat, and canned items are reasonably priced. ATTN: CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE! ! Cashier Maria has the worst attitude and shouldn't be dealing with customers. Not only that, but she rings up items incorrectly --she has double charged me for single items multiple (4-5) times over the past couple of months. By the time I look at my receipt, I'm usually already home, so I don't bother to go back to get reimbursed. Sigh. Today, right after I paid, I looked at the receipt and noticed that she double charged me again! Can she really be that negligent? Or is there something criminal going on here? Can't say for sure but when I went back (a few minutes after I paid) and asked her to reimburse the overcharge, she was extremely rude and said "I'm not helping you" and then she walked away, presumably to go on a break. The manager did reimburse me, but it is a hassle to deal with the employees there. If the TO Aldi location didn't have such great prices, I would give one star for the horrendous customer service. read more

We come here every week for groceries and have had mostly good experiences. We don't find everything we need here so always have to go to a second grocery store to get our weekly groceries. The stuff that we do get here is okay quality (mostly prepackaged produce, pickled food, canned food, oat milk and eggs) and great prices for California. One of the downsides is that their produce including kale, salad boxes, and radishes go bad easily. Also - most of the packages aren't recyclable. Staff has been friendly every time we've been here. read more

It doesn't compare to a "knOcK oFf TRadEr JoeS" because these are two different stores. I hate this cheap store, wouldn't recommend. The prices are so low but the stuff they sell just doesn't feel right. The food isn't even that good. I've seen people complain about stuff being in they're food. Plus, there is only 1 SINGLE cashier open and like what? 10 people waiting in line! I had stopped in here after work, and it was...interesting. I'd never been to one of these so apparently you have to know what you're doing. Some of the produce was expired. The main thing that annoyed me was the checkout process. No one told me how the bag thing works or...just doesn't. The girl was halfway across the store, she kind of flopped down and rang my stuff up and tossed it in my cart. Yeah, tossed. I thought, "wait, no bags?" She didn't even ask me if I had one or wanted one, and with this miserable "I just want to go home" attitude she had, I didnt dare ask about if they were available. To keep the prices low, ALDI implements a key token system for their carts at every one of their 11k+ stores. But, rather than paying 25c to use the cart, the coin is returned to you upon cart return. So, while you can't call it a 'pay' system, you could call it a coin 'loan'. In France, they call it the 'clé jeton' (key token) system and it has been virtually universal in all European stores with shopping carts for decades. ALDI offers 10c bags like other stores at the check out. Simply grab as many as you need and throw them on the belt with the rest of the items. ALDI's market is for those who are budget minded but still seek quality that rises above places like most of what Walmart and comparable outlets offer. Their market includes those who simply shop for an item without the need several brand and variant options for each item. ALDI's market is primarily geared towards the shopper who wants an easily manageable grocery store with low shelving, wide aisles, and excellent store brand quality. In today's economy, every penny counts and ALDI gears it's stores towards those who work hard for their bread and, in turn, rewards those hard earned wages with quality products and excellent European standards. You'd be hard pressed to find an example of an ALDI that closed based on lack of business or interest. That's because ALDI does their homework and this area of Ventura County is more than ready for the value & quality offered. read more

Wow, what a DEPRESSING market. Smallish, cramped aisles, with pre-packaged -and NOT good-produce and overall generic junk. There couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 people in there total (and none of us looked too cheery either) Bad food, bad mojo. I can't IMAGINE how this chain ever did so well--it makes Wal-Mart look like Gelson's-but I will NEVER go in this place again (and it took me forever to get out the first time-they had exactly ONE checker for the entire store) .
