Maltodextrine is a sugar substitute which can be very harmful to diabetics. To buy a "No sugar" product and find that I just consumed a loaded drink mix of it is not good. I went shopping here because everyone gives this place rave reviews and they claim to save lots of money here. I'm very aware of the prices I pay at a local chain and their meat and chicken prices are definitely better prices than Aldi. I love this Aldi! I have shopped at a couple others and this store is more organized, the Clerk's are always helpful and know where the products are located, when I cannot find something, on my own. I also have mention how friendly and welcoming, the manager is, in this Leominster location. He has dark/black(?) hair, glasses, fairly tall and is very pleasant to his staff and customers(me). I had not been to Aldi in three years because of surgeries and I was so surprised at the variety of new products! Also, there is an increase in organic products, which some of my friends purchase and I have informed them. Like most people, I love cruising the "speciality" aisle, to see new products or seasonal items etc! I am once again hooked on Aldi, lol! This discount supermarket has a limited selection. It is German owned so you can find imported products not available elsewhere, but other things are missing. For instance, today I did not find regular olives, only kalamata, and no radishes or 13 gallon trash bags without handles. Know your prices going in because while some items are a good deal others are not. They have a small flyer of sales weekly. You must insert a quarter to get a cart, which you get back when you return it. There are more customer friendly ways to avoid cart theft than fumbling with the quarter in the winter cold or the rain. Market Basket has electronic sensors that lock the cart wheels if you try to take it out of their parking lot. In addition to your quarter remember to bring your own bags. read more

Great place to stretch your food budget. Limited choices, often take it or leave it, but usually of quality equal to the much more expensive brand names. Well, I tried Aldi for the first time yesterday. Interesting, but I won't be back. I actually thought the "pay a quarter" for your shopping carriage was clever; it keeps the carriages from being left around the lot, and you get back your quarter when you return it. It did require me to head back to my car for a quarter though! Walking down the isles, it was almost comical. Almost no brand name items, but all of their items LOOK like regular brand names. Same colors, similar logos, similar names, etc.. What I will warn you about are the ingredients. Most everything I looked at was complete crap, loaded with high fructose corn syrup and preservatives. READ THE LABELS. That's why everything here is cheap; it's almost all junk food. At check out I learned you have to pay for bags if you didn't bring your own. That's cool, .06 for a paper bag. I bought a few and proceeded loading my groceries on the belt. What I didn't realize was that the clerk was DUMPING my groceries loose into another carriage as she was ringing it up. She didn't warn me, she just did it. I then had to park my carriage off to the side and bag everything. What a PITA. I also learned that they take NO credit cards. Bummer as I usually pay for groceries on Amex. They take cash, debit, and EBT. I understand, it's another way for them to keep costs down. My advice is to go to Trader Joe's or your regular market. Spend a few bucks more and get some quality food. The stuff they sell here is what led to the obesity crisis in America. I may be obsessed with ALDI supermarkets. I randomly found one last week, kind of far away from home, and immediately looked to find one slightly closer to home or in the area I'd be the next weekend. Well, I was in the area and this was my main destination. It's looked on the outskirts of Leominster- not really near to the mall but along a nice road. It shares a plaza with Walmart and a tractor store. The building is nice and modern. You have to pay 25 cents for a cart and they do not bag/supply bags for you so if you have a re-usable grocery tote then I suggest bringing that. The prices are amazing. I've never heard of any of the brands and they all look like they ship from and possibly are made in Batavia, IL. The chocolate selection is cheap and awesome. I picked up a huge milk chocolate fruit and nut bar imported from Germany for less than 2 dollars. You can see the savings you get just by bagging your own groceries and I wish other stores would do it that way. They had some delicious frozen eclair and cream puff free samples. Yum. Their food selection is wide, however, I don't think they sell cat or dog products of any kind. I've just to see a pet aisle or even bags of food or litter on sale. I'd love to know why they don't stock that, but it's not a big deal to me as I go to another store for my cat supplies. Prices on meats and fish just blow me away at these stores. Duck which is almost 30 dollars at places in my town is about 14 dollars in their stores. Same for prices on things like cereal and other food essentials. The prices cannot be beat. I really hope more of them open up in the area. I'd love to see our ancient chain stores get some real competition so they're forced to offer reasonable prices. I just found out from our local town blog that there is an Aldi's about 40 minutes away from our home! That is such a plus, since I have a friend ship me the chocolate candy bars from Indiana!! Last week, my husband and I were in Wisconsin and I spotted an Aldi's. Yes, I loaded up with candy bars and that left little room in my suitcase for any other shopping. I shop at Aldi's frequently, or I should say I used to. They have great advertised sales of fruits, vegetables and meat. However I have noticed over the last eight weeks that they are using bait and switch or just luring you in to the store only to discover that they are out of stock on that item, fruit, produce or meat. Several weeks back over a two week period, they advertised Raspberries on sale at a good sale price. I made a total of six trips only to hear "we are out of stock on that item". Then they advertised chicken thighs at an extremely good price. Meat sales occur on Wednesdays. Again arrived 1 hour after store opens, again no stock but they had other chicken available at twice the cost. They had a furniture item that I drove to the store to purchase, again 1 hr into the open store, no stock. They will not offer a rain check no switch with an available item at the sale price. When I mention each time that they are perpetually out of stock, every sales/manager associate states verbatim, " I am sorry, we need to do better at that" This leads me to believe that this is not happenstance, Aldis deliberately lures people into the store knowing they will not have the product available and have trained everyone to respond accordingly. I emailed corporate office customer service. They asked for the dates, times and items as well as the store location. I informed them of the number of trips made to the store only to be disappointed. They did not offer a raincheck or coupon that would allow me to purchase the items as advertised. In fact they offered nothing, not even an explanation as to why it occurs so frequently. I stated that I felt compelled to report this activity to the state consumer protection agency. The response "I am sorry, we need to do better at that". Coincidence? I think not! read more
