Many so called farmer's markets sell produce that is grown at various farms around this area yet they market it as their own and charge ridiculous prices. English peas for example. I am a raw, English pea fanatic. When they come in season, which should be any day now, Miller's (they grow their own) sell them initially for roughly $3.99 per pound. Price lowers as season continues. On my first of the season visit I usually buy five pounds or so, I clean them out. Remember too that with English peas there is a great deal of waste as the pod is inedible. Various other so called farmer's markets sell them by the pint or basket. Hello - a pint of peas?? A mere teaser for me. The weight is so minimal that I'm guessing it's about a fourth of a pound or less. These pints are not cheap. Maybe $3.00? I got stuck on the pea thing so let me venture to other veggies. Every product that is grown in their fields is marked as such. They grow corn, tomatoes, green and wax beans, melons, really a wide variety. They also sell things grown elsewhere which is noted as such. I can't say enough about the integrity and quality of this market other than "Stay Away" during pea season or you might be leaving with a stump on the hand that tried to take my peas. This also applies to sweet corn.

On my most recent visit I purchased a dog toy for my two golden retrievers. She made sure I knew that the toy had a 100% guarantee and I could return it if it got destroyed (which it has, so I'll be returning). Although their current selection was minimal due to the holidays, she informed me when they expected to have new items. I'll continue to shop here due to the great selection and service, only a local store can offer!

A small town family with a small town farm who is concerned over the care and processing of their product will continue to have my vote. Have had his beef, pork, sausage, ham, chickens, eggs and have been very pleased. On those two days he is open, it is busy with customers who have been going there for many years, just engage one of them and they will all tell you their favorites.

One thing I will say is that since this is now located in a grass field and not a parking lot there could be some slightly muddy or dusty conditions, depending on weather so dress appropriately. There is also a lot of parking but the set up is funny. There are attendants who are helpful and appreciated but be patient and allow a few extra minutes to get in and out. The first time I went to Fowler's was to buy sponge candy for some friends in Florida. My friend Tasha sent me a book that turned out to be one of the best I've ever read. It's an old book and out of print, and I kept the book longer than was honestly acceptable, so when I mailed it back I wanted to include something special. I sent a box of milk chocolate and a box of orange milk chocolate sponge candy. Needless to say, I was forgiven. The shop is small, but don't let that fool you. There's a lot packed inside and it's plenty of variety. Wonderful gifts or treats for yourself. I went back just before Christmas to pick up a couple of boxes of sponge candy for my best friend, and the associate working at the counter offered to wrap them up for me. The customer service has been top notch every time I've been in there. The store is clean and organized in a way that makes it easy to find what you need. There's enough parking and it's easy to get in and out. Seriously, Fowler's; let's hang out more, okay?
