I have to give this store a mixed review…read more Admittedly the prices are great, they sell a huge range of products from food to clothes, toys and homewares, and the shelves always seem very well stocked. However, I do find that the store is busy at pretty much any time of day, and the store is not really set out to accomodate this. The aisles are very narrow and it's quite easy to find yourself stuck behind someone who's blocking the path. It can make your grocery shopping quite stressful. That said, they are fantastic if you order your groceries from them online - they offer sensible substitutions and the food is always fresh. Their new self-service check outs in-store are great fun!

However, I don't love the way that unless you go first thing in the morning or later at night, you will struggle to a) find a full car parking space! and b)struggle to find a small trolley. They don't seem to be able to cope with lots of customers going through the tills either - at busy times, there are always massive queues, and tills that aren't open. The produce employees tend to block aisles too, while they are restocking, but at least the produce is fresh. Everything is reasonably priced at Asda and they have some fab offers and lovely gifts.

Meats, Mr. Datcat raves about the gammon, but I'm a little bit fussy so avoid them. Sometimes the special offers are great on named brands e.g. Heinz, but non foods a lot of the time are cheap tat (ideal gifts for that person you just don't like) Parking is easy and the staff are helpful and quick. Just remember to take your own bags as watching tinned stuff roll away down the car park after being dropped is funny to watch isn't so funny when it's your tins.

I am French from Paris and stopped at Lidl in Eastern Avenue this morning. I bought 2 pains au…read morechocolat and 1 croissant. I just could not believed it when I was eating them. There is no difference with a French bakery. Both had enough butter, enough chocolate bars for the pain au chocolat and were crunchy on the surface and not like a marshmallow. The kind of croissant that you do not need to put crap inside because it is good enough to eat it plain on its own. I came back in the afternoon to tell a member of the staff how great it was and bought again two pains au chocolat and two croissants. I do not know who is in charged of preparing them, but if somebody sees the person responsible, please congratulate her on my behalf and may be if the opportunity arises, this person should open a bakery in Gloucester.

No huge queues (except at Christmas, where there are queues everywhere!) Everything you need under one roof - clothes, books, electricalsoh, and food!! I forgot to say that this store also has an instore cafe and personal hand car wash! They have a car wash machine too - but you can have it hand washed for you while you shop if you so wish. There are always plenty of trolleys of each size and the car park is always pretty tidy.

On both sides of the Atlantic we all know what to expect at the rest stop or motorway…read moreservices - anywhere from grungy and run down to updated and bright, maybe very basic fast food with minimal service to somewhat higher standard plus a shop or two with some food basics and snacks. BUT would you expect a shop/supermarket with full service butcher, fresh baked bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, countless tempting cakes, fresh flowers and plants, wide variety of beers and ciders, many wines, champagnes, gins and so much more - I think not! But at this service stop by the motorway this is exactly what you get!! A Wholefoods or Gelmans (for you Americans) or actually even better - a farmers market with all the trimmings - Wow!! I would say unique but it isn't - I asked and there are 3 more - a second (I assume) identical one on the Southbound side of the M5 motorway and two more elsewhere in Gloucestershire. Needless to say - two thumbs up! Sadly I just wish there was one closer to home!

Sainsburys is not my nearest supermarket but I often choose to shop there in favour of my closer…read moreones. Their food is slightly more expensive, but the difference in price is minimal, and I find the food to be very good quality on the whole, with longer use-by dates. They also have a great clothing range. I love the fact that you can use a handheld scanner to scan your own shopping in. It makes things so much quicker.

The staff are a freindly bunch and even if busy (and it does get very busy on pension day be warned)They always say please and thank you with a smile which goes a long way nowadays. The shop it's self is quite small but has a fairly good range of basics which is handy for when you just can't be bothered to face the supermarket run. It is a bit pricy, but not by much and because the doughnuts are so nice I can forgive that.
