As I left breakfast I took a walk through the farmers market and noticed some fresh Asian food being cooked on a grill. A band was setting up but I would be gone before it started. It went on for blocks with lots of veggies and something I don't see in the Milwaukee area farmers market, fresh strawberry's so I got a container. I saw a little girl dressed in Amish clothes at a fresh baked goods stand so I stopped because I have never had Amish baked goods. Everything looked amazing and I took a mini rhubarb pie with me. As far as farmers markets go it's not the big Maddison kind but it's not the worst that I have been to.

Great apples with about 50 varieties to either buy…read moreor pick (each season different varieties will do better due to differing growing conditions so the more the better), very good honey, fall ornamental gourds, corn, pumpkins, etc. One of the few orchards I have found with Empire apples, one of my favorites. Tim, our host took us (two adults and three children) around the orchard on a tractor sampling for us different apples until he understood our taste preferences then steered us to the ones we liked best. One of the highlights was trying the different heirloom apples including one that was President Thomas Jefferson's Favorite. Pieper's is about a two hour drive from Northern Chicago Suburbs but well worth the trip (most pick your own orchards within an hour or so are heavily picked leaving few apples low enough for children to get plus this is located in the rolling hills - moraines region -- of Wisconsin offering very good fall colors).
