Manoug is a coloring genius. He gave me the most goregously subtle Ombré style today and I can't get over it. He's really friendly and wants you to enjoy "you time." So if you want to chat, he will -- but if you want to read or just have some quiet time he's fine with that as well. Lovely styling and cutting skills as well. I followed Manoug from another salon, and I actually really like the look/feel of Alchemy in general. The building's elevator is kind of slow and the parking lot gets crowded sometimes, but other than that the actual space itself is well put together and sleek. I can't wait to go back. read more

Ok, I seriously love Sylvia. She is not only the sweetest lady ever, but has major skills when it comes to hair. I got married in November and Sylvia did my a fantastic job on my hair! She was so thorough about everything, even in the trial runs. She made sure that it was exactly what I wanted and made it look perfect. The best part is, she let me and my wedding party take over the salon! We had six girls, a flower girl, MOB, and three photographers with us--Sylvia even hooked me up with a makeup artist! We had champagne, pastries, and tons of food so my morning could be stress free...well, as stress free as you can be right before you get married! Let me just say that I've had bad experiences with bleach. Never would I have thought that my hair would be so soft and manageable after bleaching it a couple of times. I have also followed Manoug to this salon. I've been going to him for over a year now, and I still get compliments on my hair as it continues to grow. The first time I went to him, he cut my hair into a pixie. And so when I talk with other women about how difficult it was to get out of the awkward growing stages, I tell them I never had those problems. And it's so true! He thoughtfully planned out what to do with my hair as it grew out, and I was able to go for a month and a half, after each visit, still feeling confident with my 'do. I could probably go longer without seeing him, but I like getting my hair done. ;) I will follow him until the end of time! (Or until I move out of Fresno, but even then, I would probably consider scheduling an appointment with him if I came back to visit!) As for the salon, one word comes to mind. "Bling". I would give 10 stars if it were possible! I had the absolute BEST experience! I'm a stickler for excellent customer service and that's exactly what I got here at Alchemy (plus a fabulous hair cut!!) Pros: - All the girls are super sweet! They greeted me with a smile and offered me refreshments. Sylvia's assistant (forgot her name!) is top notch! She shampooed my hair and we chopped it up like old buddies. - The atmosphere is amazing! The whole building smells of money but everyone there made me feel at ease. It wasn't pretentious or "snooty." - Sylvia is super sweet and skilled! I've gone to other hair stylists for a simple layered hair cut and each have gotten it wrong.. Even after I showed them pictures of how I wanted it to look. But Sylvia took the time to ask me my typical hair styling regimen, what I'm looking for, and then explain to me how she was going to cut it and how it's the best for my hair since I'm letting it grow out. Maybe I've been unlucky in the past, but this is the first time my hair stylist took the time to discuss that with me! - Even tho the place was relatively busy (it was a Saturday), each person who helped me made me feel like I was their only customer. Hot damn, if that's not excellent customer service I don't know what is! Cons - parking is a challenge due to stupid truck/SUV drivers who take it upon themselves to park over the lines when they would have been perfectly fine if they parked properly. Five stars for Manoug! The best color I've ever had, I have light brown hair that was feeling a bit blah, and Manoug added some very natural looking blonde highlights that brightened my color right up! I get compliments all the time on my color and cut, and he made me confident to start cutting my hair short because I trust his skills so much. Another plus is that he is very efficient at what he does... highlights, cut, and style and I'm out in 1 hr, 45 mins is a major benefit to me! I've been to him a total of 4 times now, and I have been absolutely impressed with NO regrets every time. He is very personable, he remembers tidbits about my life (trips I had planned he'd ask me about next time I was there, about my job, etc.) that shows he cares and enjoys his job. The salon itself is beautiful, the receptionist and everyone else working there have always been very friendly and I've never had to wait for my appt. After calling another local salon and not getting a call back I looked into Alchemy. I researched their ratings and website. I was a little discouraged by the two negative reviews I read, but decided to give them a call anyway. I figured if they couldn't get me in then it wasn't meant to be. I was given an appointment for a date and time that worked within my schedule. I received a telephone call a couple days prior confirming my appointment, which is a huge plus. On the day of my appointment I received another telephone call inviting me to come in earlier if it was convenient (which it was). Upon arriving at the salon I was greeted by Keena. She was warm and welcoming and got me settled in the chair. I've never been offered wine at a hair salon, and although I didn't accept, it was a huge gesture. I will get wine next time! He will take such good care of you hair he listens to what you want and if he dyes your hair he does a great job not frying it like some other stylists do. IDK what he does to make my hair look so healthy and amazing until the next visit (which is every 6-8 weeks). I found a colorist by the name of Sonia on Instagram and inquired about having hair color removed and she suggested that I go in for a consultation. I will admit that she did reply to messages very quickly and because of that I felt comfortable and went in for the consultation. I drove an hour to get there, and when I arrived she wasn't there. I didn't think much of it , considering it was just a consultation and not a paid visit. I figured maybe she didn't take consultations very seriously since it wasn't guaranteed money. She arrived about 10 minutes later than she had asked me to come in. She looked at my hair and said it would take 1 session to chelate my hair $160 (she spelled it wrong.. Should have been my first warning) and that it would take 7 sessions of $140 each after which would come out to $1,140 to remove one box color I had applied 16 months ago (was going from dark brown to dark blonde) Being gullible and knowing it would be tedious..never having been to a salon before.. I agreed because I didn't know any better. We walked out to the lobby where she looked at the computer screen with the receptionist and asked me what time I would like to come in on Saturday and had me choose between 9 or 11.. I chose 9am and she said she'd see me then. I was so excited and had already started telling my coworkers about how I found this new salon and some even said they would be willing to try it out. The salon confirmed my appointment the day before, I got there early at 8:50am because I wanted to make sure that I was on time and ready for my appointment at 9. The receptionist seen me and asked me if I was there for Sonia and I agreed and told me that she wasn't in yet. I started to get a little nervous and sat around till 9:18am when the receptionist said she would call Sonia and see what was going on.. Apparently Sonia "thought my appointment was for 10am and not 9am". The receptionist asked if I'd like to wait 30 more minutes for her to arrive.. Which I obviously declined! So in total I wasted 5 hours on this salon for a service that never happened. It was extremely rude and unprofessional and I will be sure to tell all my friends and coworkers not to go there after all. Luckily I was able to get into another salon that had a cancellation who made me blonde in one sitting with no damage for $230.. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE! read more

Gotta love Manoug. He's a great stylist! I love my hair!! He did it exactly how I wanted and I'm thankful to find someone who I can really trust. The salon is on the 3rd floor of the Palestine bulding and it's so beautiful! The salon itself isn't crazy busy and it's so clean and sleek...I also noticed that someone continually sweep all the hair off the ground, even while Manoug was cutting my hair! It's nice and cozy and very very clean. Makes you feel like you're detoxing in a spa! This was my first time meeting Manoug and I was a little nervous about my appointment but gave me a big welcome and was so humble and ever so friendly. My daughter found them on YELP as I was looking for a haircut and just passing through Fresno on our way to Northern California for the weekend. My daughter lives in Fresno. When we got to the Salon I didn't think I could get in because it was so nice. I was pleasantly surprised when Keena came out and said she had the time to take me. I was a regular customer of Sylvia's since Dec 2012. She consistently did an amazing job coloring and styling my hair. The products used at the salon are top notch. Although I always went red (on naturally jet black hair mind you), it always turned out beautifully. Between coloring (every 2 to 3 months) it never turned brassy or orange. I've referred family members and friends and they,too, we're just as impressed as I. I trusted her to try fringe bangs and I loved it! LAME. I come from a long line of business people in my family and this place failed to deliver before I could even begin. I'm new to Fresno so naturally I needed to find a good place to get a trim. I found many good reviews on the stylist Monoug S and decided to call to make an appointment when the receptionist tells me he's not accepting new clients. What is the point of maintaining a business if he doesn't want to accept new clients? What's the point of reading the reviews about him if he isn't accepting new clients? And the way the receptionist said it, she made it seem like you had to be accepted in a special VIP type club. I guess garbage business mentality is the best Fresno has to offer. I just got a hair cut tonight at this salon. I decided to review this salon, because I just saw Amanda's comment about Silvia. This was my first hair cut in the Fresno area, because I just moved here. When I entered the salon I was greeted by the sweetest receptionist ever, who was overjoyed to see me. After being greeted, i was promptly escorted to get my hair washed by Silvia's assistant. After a thorough very enjoyable hair wash, I was whisked away to the salon chair where I waited for only 2 mins as Silvia was finishing up her last customer. She was so happy to meet me and discuss all of my hair options . I did not feel like she was pushy or rushed despite me being the last appointment of the night,. Silvia is probably the best, most enthusiastic hair stylist I've ever had. My hair is even and fabulous! I seriously can't see Silvia doing a bad job or not caring. The person I met seemed like she wanted to do nothing but please me and make me feel special. I have booked another appointment with Silvia this week for a color appointment. This salon is totally worth visiting, clean and professional. The price for Silvia's hair cut was 70 dollars. A little expensive, but you are paying for a senior stylist with 30+ years of experience. read more

This salon is swank. Totally hip inside. White walls, chandeliers, fun music, cute furniture. Totally a posh environment. Sylvia, the owner, is so wonderful. First of all, she's been "behind the chair" for over 35 years. She knows her stuff. She has seen the trends come and go and knows exactly what cutting/layering/coloring techniques to use. She's also incredibly kind, down-to-earth and not snobby. Sometimes, hair stylists can make customers feel so ashamed and out-of-touch with hair reality. She doesn't do this, at all. She also doesn't insult your current hair style/texture/look/health, etc. Such a relaxing person to have cut and dye hair. Which brings me to my next assessment. I'm writing this review a month after having my hair cut and colored by Sylvia. I had extremely blond hair...like, blond. I wanted a slightly darker color, more of a natural/dishwater blond combined with golden highlights. I also mentioned the trendy ombre style and showed her pictures. She was able to tone down my hair by adding panels of low lights and I have to say, my hair looks 100% naturally blond with beach highlights. I'm totally impressed and it's been a MONTH! I'm still a blonde, but now my hair looks like I was given that perfect color. My hair is long, so I simply asked her to thin and layer. She did both and it styles easily and lays perfectly. I went in with a hair disaster. I googled "best colorist" and this salon came up. I was thrilled because I saw a lot of the faces I knew years ago from the Loft. I waited until they opened at 8am and called immediatly to get in. I didn't expect to get in same day but I did! I was booked with "Krisha" and right off the bat I knew everything was going to be ok. I just had a great feeling. She explained to me what went wrong with my previous color and how she was going to correct it. This woman knows how to do a consult! To be honest, my expectations were low...I was just hoping I could get something that I could live with as I had been crying for weeks. Krisha far exceeded my expectations. Tried Alchemy Salon solely based off of the previous Yelp reviews and LOVED IT! I moved to Fresno about a year ago and was nervous about going somewhere to have my hair cut as I'm not too familiar with the area. I am so happy I found this place (thanks to you Yelp reviewers of course!). Probably one of the things I like the most is how they take the time to consult with you about what you are looking for, style, the maintenance expectations etc and they let you know if they think it will work great for you and if not - they give great advice about what they can do to help enhance your features. Then after you have a game plan in place it's off to wash the hair and get beautified!
