When I first moved to Austin, I started spending half of my paycheck at End of an Ear. It is a…read morequaint little shop, but I think their curation is the best in all of Austin. Their jazz selection is always great, their electronic section is strong, hip-hop and soul are well represented, and their indie and country collections are absolutely killer as well. The staff is always very friendly, especially the owner, who is normally moving around the shop making sure everything is going smoothly. Even compared to other shops, they have a larger selection of cassettes than most. This place feels connected to the community. At their busiest times, parking can be kind of a hassle. They have a decent number of spots, but there is more space in their shop for customers than parking spots outside. It is especially intense if they are hosting listening parties that allow customers to hear new albums early. The only downside of that is that people will congregate in spaces and stand around to listen to the album, which can block off some sections from access, but that is more of a customer issue than an issue with the shop itself. Prices are pretty on par with modern records, but sometimes you can get lucky and find some used gems for a decent price. I got this Dire Straights Brothers in Arms cassette for $3. What a steal! This is easily the best record store and music shop in town.

A couple of locations came up on my Google search and I chose this one. I'm glad I did. Not only did I find a Rush album I had been looking for some time and was about to order it online, but I got it brand new and at a great price. I did go thru a lot of their used inventory and really felt they have a good selection of every music genre you can think of. Pricing was also fair across the board. I didn't see anything overpriced. I would've bought a few more albums but I have thousands of records and running out of space for them so these days I have to be more selective with what I buy. Oh, and they also have a good selection of CDs, Cassettes and even 8 Track tapes. Now the one area I will give constructive feedback is in there organization. Especially when it comes to their CDs and cassettes which are just laying in stacks and you really have to move things around to see everything. But it could be because they have such a large volume of inventory that they're out of space. Something I can get so I won't ding them for it. I will also compliment the gentleman that Rand me up. When he saw the album I was buying he told me a personal story on how he had gone to see Rush during that tour. I always appreciate when the folks behind the counter take interest in their clients enough to engage in a little conversation. That goes a long way in my book. I definitely plan on returning when in town again and recommend to anyone looking for records and other physical media fairly priced

I ended up discovering a couple of artists from that section that I had never listened to. Not only do they have vinyl records, they also have DVDs and cds. One of the best selling points and features of Piranha is that for every $20 spent, you get a $1 wooden coin back, so you get a 20:1 ratio of money back on all purchases. It may not mean much, but after stockpiling 15 wooden coins and blowing them on a record, the feeling is unbeaten. The staff is humorous and great. After Record Store Day last year, I pulled up after failing to grab a copy of the Blue Notes Alts n Ins record, and the owner gave me props for grabbing it because he personally thought it was one of the coolest releases in the collection. He asked if I had come there just to buy it or stumbled upon it. I told him I was seeking it out, and I got the nod of approval. Best day of my life. I do not think this record store has much of a purpose to visit if you are deep in Austin, since independent stores in Austin have pretty similar stock, but living in Hutto and for the people in Round Rock and Georgetown, this is a great spot and a place I love to support.
