After Neil C. made a booking here for us and his mum I was genuinely excited to try Albina. Despite it being over an hours drive away in Crosby after one look at the menu I had a feeling it would be worth it, and it was.
Upon entering we were greeted by a lovely waitress who continued to be pleasant throughout the entire evening. She seated us at a lovely table and passed us the menus and wine list.
I ordered a large glass of red and carried on looking through the menu.
I could have eaten everything on the menu, which is why it took me so long to decide, but in the end I settled with some amazing choices.
To begin, and to share between us, we ordered some 'pork dustings' which can only be described as the most delicious and crunchy pork scratchings. Served with a home made brown sauce and some seasonings on the side it really was incredible.
The chef sent some amazing bread and some chicken liver parfait our way too! Which was lovely.
For my starter I ordered the house black pudding with apple fritter, pork scratchings and English squash. It was spot on, especially the apple fritter.
My main meal was the best of all - pigeon breast and legs with mushrooms. I ordered chive mash, carrots and kale to go along with this and it happens to be one of the best meals I've had to date. The pigeon breast was served rare but was still so tender and tasty. The pigeon legs I have been raving about ever since I left, just little bites of heaven.
I couldn't handle a dessert, but the jam roly poly would have been my choice.
I can't rate this restaurant highly enough, and with the recent news of it gaining an AA rosette, it seems I'm not the only one!! read more
