Lots of TV's tuned with sound on to watch a game! (No loud annoying music). Had great service! Wednesday was Wing night, but decided to go with the "Red Wine Boneless Beef Brisket ". No reason! Sounded good! Lol! The best meal I have eaten out in the last 9 months! WOW! Amazing flavour, with real mashed potatoes, tasty gravy and roasted mixed fresh vegetables "a medley of mixed carrots & baby bok choy" - super tasty! (cooked just right!). I travel lots! and eat everywhere in Alberta/Sk. The meal was to die for! Flavour with good portion and fair price. Looking to my next trip to St. Paul. Highly recommend stopping by the Hideaway, just behind Smitty's on West-side of town on the main drag!

I have been visiting Smitty's Restaurant & Lounge in St. Paul, Alberta for a little over a year. My…read moreoriginal review was 3 stars because the food was just okay, but I am now lowering my rating--not because of the food, but because of the cleanliness and management's response to customer concerns. In the past year, I have had to complain about dirty cutlery and bright green flecks floating in my tea. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough--about once every four visits--to raise serious concerns. Most recently, I found more green flecks in my tea. I politely asked to speak to the owner, not to cause a scene or ask for compensation, but simply to understand why this keeps happening and what was being done to fix it. Instead, only a supervisor came by. No one else followed up, and when the bill arrived, the tea (which I had not touched) was still charged. There was no apology, no explanation, and no acknowledgment from the owner. The fact that the owner would not take even one minute to address a regular customer's concern--and chose to leave both teas on the bill--tells me that customer care and cleanliness are not priorities here. Because of this negligence, Smitty's has lost my patronage. I hope this review serves as a warning to others and a reminder to management that basic cleanliness and respect for customers should never be optional in a restaurant. To be clear, this review is not a reflection on the wonderful staff--Fanny, Pauline, Carly, and Amanda--who have always provided friendly and attentive service. This is strictly a reflection of the lack of leadership and accountability at the management level.

It took us a while to get seated and menus. However, once we got a server (she was brand new) she was friendly, helpful and efficient. We each got a Caesar, which came from the casino bar. Probably one of the WORST Caesar's I have ever had. Watered down (was there any alcohol in there)? And no spice or flavour. Do yourself a flavour and skip the bar drinks unless you are getting a beer. I decided on the Cajun salmon with wild rice and the Brussel spouts. My husband got the chicken Corden blue with fries. Took awhile for the food to come out (which was odd, we were one of two couples in the entire place). First came out complementary warm pretzels. They were delicious and came with a nice mustard dip. Nice change from the usual bread basket you get at restaurants. I have to say the food was in general, really good. My husband found the tomato sauce on the chicken a little odd tasting (I have to agree) but the portion was really large and the chicken was cooked correctly. Perhaps not flattened enough and the filling inside was a little skimpy but still good. My salmon was excellent. It was perfectly cooked and a lovely Cajun seasoning on it. The rice was decent, and the Brussel sprouts were AMAZING. If I come here again I will order a double portion. Tender, sautéed in butter with some walnuts and raisins. So lovely. And lucky for me, hubby's came with it as well and I got his portion as well. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but food was good.

We also both took advantage of the free Wednesday wings for hotel guests: you can have as many free wings as you like with your choice of sauce AND free beer! Can't say no to that! The service needs some work. The hostess walked right past us when we arrived, and we were trying to figure out if we could seat ourselves or if we had to wait to be seated (there was no sign). I made eye contact with her and asked if we could seat ourselves (we had at breakfast) and she said "Hahaha noooooooo... I was just busy for a moment, you can follow me." The other waitresses didn't seem attached to the idea of serving us, and passed us right back to the hostess when it was time for us to pay our bill.
