It can be compared to an American grocery store with regards to lay out and space, and they offer a lot of choices as well. They even have a fresh flower section as well as a coffee section. Even their sushi section has some fresh sushi that is not as expensive as you would get in a restaurant. When compared to other grocery stores in the area, Albert Heijns is definitely more expensive. But they do offer quality for the price. If you're looking for slightly cheaper groceries, you can look up close-by Asian supermarkets or Turkish supermarkets which also offer great quality vegetables and more ethnic food choices. I would recommend going AH earlier on in the day as opposed to later in the evening because they usually run out of sliced bread. But that is the case with most grocery stores in the Netherlands, because the bread is usually baked fresh every day and they only make enough so that they don't have to sell leftovers for the next day. The Dutch are truly serious about their bread! Also love their grocery scanner option. A great way to save time!

The frambozen in Netherlands were like nothing I had ever tasted before, and I miss them. They have some pre-packaged foods near the gates as well, and I found them to be a great choice since I was traveling and did not have access to a kitchen.

Their home brands…read moreare cheap, like at Aldi (actually often cheaper), but you can also by regular brands, which is nice, because not all the cheap brands taste the same as the real ones. I've always had friendly service here too, plus they take credit cards, which still seems rare in The Netherlands. (They do charge a small fee I think though, for a credit card, like a quarter? Debit/pin cards are free) This store is huuuge too, with a liquor store and drug store on the first floor. This is definitely the biggest Dirk I've seen. It gets pretty busy here, so be prepared for an occasional restocking cart in the aisles and a lot of other shopping carts, but that's probably because it's way cheaper than the nearby Albert Heijn.

I returned a few minutes later and turned to the worker. She had the card but I was told I was leaving without paying (?!). I paid again (!). It was only when I returned from the Netherlands that I noticed that I had to pay twice for one purchase. More: it's no answer for my letter from Jumbo (!).

I was more shocked at the low prices and huge portions. I am not a huge "meat eater" but love chicken (Kip) and some pork. The lekker smell of smoked meats overcome you when you walk in (a good thing). So many choices of smoked meats, sides and anything you want. You could make a full meal and call it your own from the chicken shawarma prepared meals they have here...all you have to do is cook and serve! It is right next to the Ten Kate Markt on the Kinkerstraat....so some competition, but the market (generally) does not have raw meat sold in this capacity. A bit crowded at times...lines form down the street during these Covid-times...but I can't imagine how busy this place would be if there were no restrictions on capacity. It's well-stocked with all kinds of meats (not fish of course!). There are staff members there if you need help, and they were all smiles today, something I truly appreciate. It's all well-marked with what it is, prices, and weight. But I really couldn't believe the prices. Between three different packs of meat, a few fruit and vegetables from the market around the corner (http://www.yelp.com/biz/ten-katemarkt-amsterdam-2), was about 10 euro. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Obviously I've been living my life wrong. But it's okay, because I have found the way. My tip: Go here and the market first, then go to the grocery store for what ever is left on your list. My guess is that you will save at least 30-50% on your groceries! I know they take pin and cash.
